Elrich Goone? (Troisi edit), Edgar Davids anyone?

Ahmad Elrich came off after only 12mins tonite against Qld Roar with a suspected tear of his ACL, which if correct could possibly put him out for the season, if so we are in need of a 'quality' replacement.

Lawrie spoke after the game, "We'll have to look seriously about trying to get someone in," McKinna said. "Who that person is and where they come from, who knows?"

I do, James Troisi!

Sign him Lawrie!, before those filthy Scummers get their hubcap stealing mits on him, as GVE has sounded out some interest in him. He's a quality midfielder who did quite well at the Olympics and I believe should have come on much earlier against IvoryC than that twat Arnold gave him (much like Matty Simon).

Alternately, (Bear will get a hard-on over this one) Edgar David as a short term marquee? We all know it was Pete Turnball that pushed for Johnny Ca$olisi, and was salivating when Bozza came up as cover for Danny, big names are an itch that PT likes to take a scratch at.

The twat Harper in the 'biased-box' mentioned that David's agent expressed an interest in 2 downunder clubs and one of them IS NOT Sydney FC. The dread-head dutchman would be a great replacement for Elrich, despite being known as a more defensive midfielder in his heyday, I think the standard of the HAL would easily afford him the time and space to showcase his talent in a more attacking/creative style.

Dreadlocks could be the key  ;), DADI playing for Perth Glory up front is shaping up to be an astute buy for Dave Mitchell.

Heff also possibly another 6 weeks away def causes more headaches for the Gaffer wanting to put his best 11 on the park. Additionally, Caceres injured his back during training and failed to make the teamsheet against Qld.

As the Gaffer said, WE NEED SOMEONE! Who that person is and where they come from................ DO YOU KNOW?

Damn it! Oh well, they probably offered more money than what would've been on offer from HAL clubs here. Interesting in that it's same club that Nicky Carle was at 'briefly' b4 'wanting' to move on.

We'll still be in need of a quality midfielder though to replace Ahmed.

I mentioned this in the injury thread as well but ........McClenahan still without a club as I understand ......... any tho's about McClenahan as a replacement for Elrich.

Is a right sided mid and from what I seen of him would suit the Mariners style.

After watching his performances in the x3 Olymmpic games, I wasn't that impressed and wondered why Arnie gave him so much game time.

Edgar, however, even at at 'his' asking price of $30,000 per game with 18 games of the season left (lets say 17 as it would take a bit of tic-toc 2 get him cleared) comes in at just $510,000.

Didn't we pay more for Johnny Ca$olisi and for less games?

Even at this price, negotiate in the finals, a separate deal for ACL (which could be partly/wholly funded by some Asian corporate interests) and we've got a gun player which will bring in crowds for both the rest of the HAL season and outside interest from Syd and Scumville for the ACL games.

finally retired

Edgar Davids.
I'm excited by this......I'm sorry for Elrich, but one door closes and another opens, provided we do something about it.  Davids was a classy player, and I'm sure would still turn the A-league upside down.

You can only replace him with the same salary as Elrich, which I'm pretty sure is shy of 6 figures.

We replaced Matty Osman with John Aloi$i, under the 'long-term' injury rule and his over inflated $700-800k wage was allowed outside the salary cap AND wasn't a 'marquee' as Tony Vidmar was the CCM Marquee player at the time.

Have the rules changed? link?

Troisi seems as good as gone with the Turkish club.

Davids had a broken leg last season and at his age, would he be fit enough? He didn't re sign with Ajax, so do we presume he just wants to take it easy?

McClenahan, while young, seems a good prospect, but I read reports he has had knee and leg injuries over the last 3 seasons. He didn't re sign with the Hereford team he was contracted to, so what is he up to?

Feel real sorry for Elrich (seriously, I do) if it turns out that he has an ACL tear and out for season. He has been working hard on the pitch and he did seem set for a decent season. I wonder, if he's out for the season, how that fits in with him. After the last 3 years or so of disappointments, I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled the pin and retired.

There have been changes to the short term injury replacement rule.

I think the FFA want the A-League teams to promote from the Youth team first before bringing in on ST Injury replacement coverage, and maybe they also introduced "like salary" conditions after the Aloi$i surprise we sprung on the other A-League teams last year. Can anyone confirm this?

But.....a check of the seniors team roster reveals we have a permanent spot free, and that's after including Bosnich. One spot free for an expensive signing if we can fit it into our salary cap, or a marquee  ;)(which we don't have at the moment).

Well that will narrrow down the 'wish list' a tad, would be good to know what we've got up our sleeve in regards to the whats left under the cap for that 'spare spot' as well as elrichs wage.

As Jaza said wouldn't be close to the $'s needed for some of this masturspeculation  ;)

Although, marquee.................but Lawrie doesn't believe in the concept.  :-\

aloisi was a marquee by any other name, and vidmar was signed as a marquee.

I saw McClenahan at Bluetounge in OQ and tho he was one of the best we had on the park.

He would be very good in the A-League ........... as for ED .......... mate ........ maybe 5 years ago but not now.

Off topic ....but a  big part about Elrich being hurt is I tho he would put a lot of bums on seats as he is a very attacking player / getting back into Socceroos team etc, and there is no one around who I can see would have his drawing power out there.

McClenahan is a fullback/centre-back, not an offensive winger.

That said, having Elrich out can only be positive for the Mariners.
