ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Crowd numbers...should we be worried?

Found out today that all clubs have stopped/cut down on giving away free tickets to matches which would normally add a few extra thou to the attendance to most matches.

This coupled with the state of the weather on the coast on sat night (basically bluetongue was in the eye of a hurricane), i think 8 thou wasnt too bad as theyre all paying customers and willing to brave the shit weather to watch the football.

1) Clubs will never stop using free tickets in their promotional stubnts with people like 2GO etc. Cut back, yes, but stop, no.

2)"basically bluetongue was in the eye of a hurricane" is bs Perm. Were you even there? It might have looked that way on the BoM website, but no howling winds or storms while I was there.
The weather was looking bad overhead and in the distance, but the only spots of rain I felt  while in the stadium from 7:00 PM to final whistle, was a few very light spots close to the end. yes, it LOOKED bad, but the storm didn't happen. Had been a storm earlier, but not even for the Yoof League match I think. The 8k who turned up probably took a chance but they didn't have to 'brave' anything.

Clarence, I was there. From bay 16 it did look bad, and it looked bad in the distance where people wouldve had to come from either woy woy or the other end of the coast (where I came from) where it had been pissing down all day. and that is my point that people wouldve copped the rain all day and wouldve made their minds up to stay indoors rather than to RISK sitting in a downpour.

I did notice the sky looked very dark, even purple on TV. But in reality it was just overcast. I was never even worried that we might get any more than "maybe" a few spots of rain during the game.... at most.

I think (and hope) the rescheduling had the biggest impact on the crowd; the weather might account for a few more as well.

The people I was with all said that it had stopped raining earlier in the afternoon where they lived, all from separate areas of the Coast. Had stopped raining where I live at about that same time too.

People had to make a choice.
Those that stayed home sadly missed a match that the Mariners won. But if it had stormed during the match they would have felt vindicated. Can understand those with kids etc. not venturing out, nothing worse than pissing down rain and kids & missus whingeing about being wet.

But my point (in counter to your comments), is that the weather had stopped being nasty in the afternoon, but was lingering around and threatening. I felt that to say there was a hurricane in the area - that bluetongue was in the eye of a hurricane - was wrong.

Looked much worse on TV than in real life. 89% humidity, wind 1km/h, 90% chance of rain according to the pre-match stats. Cockerill suggested it might be "the calm before the storm" and surprisingly it looked believable on the TV.

I say "surprisingly" because I hadn't seen rain since the morning and it didn't seem like anything was likely to close in; it just seemed overcast but in no way threatening.

Funny how different it looks when you watch it on TV though

Floss, the sky WAS purple out to sea at one stage. I remember looking at it and commenting to the people sitting next to me that it looked like we could get some hail (although I must admit that in my experience hail clouds look more dark british racing green than purple)

From where we were in bay 15, it looked odds on to absolutely piss down at some point.

As people entered the stands, they made for the top few rows under cover.

Lets face it, the ground is terrible if it rains, apart from the upper tiers (as long as the rain is straight) you are gonna get soaked.

All we can do is make a personal commitment to turn up. Anything else is beyond our powers lol

Geez floss how many did you have at level 5?

driving down on Saturday around midday there was a definite change at about the Cessnock exit from the freeway where it went from overcast to looking truly awful. I thought at that stage Perth V1 again.

Throwing people out of the stadium because of their chosen attire is a bit over the top. If someone wants to wear a Glory jersey to a CCM v SFC game that is their perogative.

+ a Melbourne jersey in bay 5

Country Hick they did also do an outrigger membership for people like you (living outside of a 75km radius of bluetongue stadium. $75 which included entry into three games (GA) plus membership pack/benfits

I would be interested to see where 75km radius is.
That would have been a good option for me they used a 70km radius. According to Google Earth, my house is 73.25km from the stadium.
