ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Unbelievable. Hopefully the administrator tells them to bugger off.

edit: I also wonder if these same staff have access to the submissions so far (if any). If so it’s not exactly a fair process.
They`ve at least had access to the "unsolicited submission" made by the Mariners... :tinfoilhat:

You can be guaranteed that their submission will include sections of the Mariners previous tender that they themselves said was not unique enough to be presented to councillors. Then if they win, nothing they put in the tender will be done.

Watch them point to some bullshit like a decline in loss while the warriors have been based here and completely ignoring the fact it’s a temporary arrangement.
Exactly without the pandemic the Warriors would not have played there. Good work to get them to play here I’ll pay that but seriously dodgy this is. I’d be furious if i was Shaun.

How many of the previous conversations have been used against them

This has to be about as good of an idea as re-instating all the councillors who f$$ked the community to begin with!!
This has an ICAC inquiry written all over it. Utter bullish*t for it to even be considered.
As @scottmac says, they get the rights and nothing will change as their budget will be $ZERO.

I don't live on the Coast and I cannot believe what I read about the Central Coast Council, seems they will just not acknowledge Football is even on the Coast let alone support it. For once I can understand why MC is always threatening to move the team. The fact this is being held up so they can make a submission is so laughable it's just corrupt no matter how you look at it.

I wonder if this will be the thing that makes MC finally say enough is enough?

At least in that situation you should know what you’re getting yourself into and there should be a process that keeps the bids separate until considered. This is a whole other level with an 11th hour bid and request to extend the window to accommodate it.

On a different line of thinking the stadium is bleeding money - that much is clear. The council has serious financial issues too which are likely to prevent significant investment. So what’s going to change to make this a good idea for rate payers? COVID is here for the short term at least, the economy is suffering, what’s the catalyst for thinking the council should continue to run the ground?
Exactly. And even more to the point, they have a proven history of losing money and doing a poor job in key areas since day dot. But now we’ll change. Sure,

Their only ‘Vision’ for the stadium seems to be, book more events, which is quite the indictment if that’s never occurred to them before, or if it did, then they’ve simply failed to do it for so damn long why the hell should they be trusted now??

The Mariners are an incredibly valuable asset to the coast. Would be a devastating blow to the region to lose them. This is an opportunity to help sure up this asset and immediately begin saving money on another asset - which after the level of incompetence is now a high priority.

Can the council just let the club build their own 10-12k stadium if they insist on ignoring the current stadiums primary tenant?
TBH - if we can get enough parking at Tuggerah, being close to the Station, building our clubhouse on top of the other plans that may be the only way to stay on the Coast long term. Although of course the Council would block that as well.

Then they will truly have a white elephant stadium

. gee you're a cynical bunch ... i wonder why?

. alternate perspective*:
  • tender period is up
  • only one bidder
  • no way for an assessment
  • internal 'estimate' prepared for comparison
  • made public by over-zealous reporter or leaked to provide a public perception ... that all avenues are being explored or that a public asset will not be 'given' to a private enterprise
  • internal bid excluded due to not being able to meet basic KPI parameters or financials
  • winner announced
  • ta-da!
* total speculation and i haven't even researched any possible facts which may rule the whole concept invalid

And even more to the point
Agree with everything in your post. It doesnt make sense to assume things will get better or for council to focus their funds on the stadium in the hope of a return. At most there's an opportunity cost if the club does better with it but that doesnt make sense to pursue for them in light of their financial issues and more pressing priorities.

Then they will truly have a white elephant stadium
This is the thing they should be mindful of. Play chicken enough and you'll lose sooner or later, then what? Let their mates build apartments there?

. alternate perspective*:
I would have expected any submissions would be viewed against current performance and realistic projections. This isnt a no reserve auction where MC can simply win by default if its a worse outcome than it is currently. Alternatively if a sole bidder scenario would prompt this action they should have been prepared for a vendor bid anyway without the need for extension. Why allocate more time and 22k in their budget?

. my post was mostly a piss-take ... but seriously do you expect that the Council has had their shit together on this process?

. they don't appear to have been able to do much properly, I mean, the sole evaluation process previously was '... umm, sorry CCM ... but your offer, doesn't seem ... umm unique enough ... yeah that's it, it's not unique enough'

. it would not surprise me if they got to the business end and said 'OK so how do we assess this?' ... and then thought ... 'oh shit! how do we assess this?'

... quick somebody runs some numbers and see what we think ... wait, what do you mean it's going to take a couple of weeks to run the numbers?
