when does the transfer window close? Our team needs a Marquee. Yorke hasn't been playing for Sunderland, maybe get him on loan. I think the crowd was crap last night and a player like this may get the numbers back, similar to what Aloi$i did for us last year.

Razor - largest crowd we have had for a season opener (but agree still not good)
When you take the weather into account and the fact that there is still Thugby and the olympics are still on.....

THAT SAID - Yes we need a Marquee or a CM to work with Mile - I am concerned Hutch won't cut it anymore based on what we saw last night....

I think with hindsight putting the Sydney game on at this time was a mistake. It was only our best season opener crowd because of the away fans.Take them out of the equation and the crowd probably wasn't any better than last years against Wellington.

I think we now have a regular 7 or 8 thousand but we don't seem to get the casual fan until the weather warms up ,the season gets up some momentum and the knuckledragging sports are finished.

If this game had been played in Oct or Nov I think we would have pulled at least another two thousand or more depending on how both teams were travelling at the time.

We could have played Perth,Welly or Adelaide last night and pulled 9,000 plus.

I realise the weather was shit, but I honestly thought after the crowds we had at the end of last season we would push 15 or 16000.

i agree with your assessment of Hutch... was crap last night his worst game for some time.

Not on current form because Ozzie wouldn't be there and the injuries we have but I think this is potentially our best line up - 4-3-1-2.

                      Bozza

Osman        Boooogs            Bojic            Heff

Elrich                Jedi                      Caceras

                          Sasho
                Mrdja              Macca

Bench Danny, Hutch, Matty, Wilko, Clark

Can't see it happening though  :(

Who's captain?

I got into trouble for suggesting Wilko to the bench! :)

Sorry - didn't really think about the captain. I've never rated Wilko as a CB. He played great at RB in season one and maybe he could go back there. At the moment though I think he needs the shakeup of not starting.

I'm happy with Bozza as captain as he dominates his half - not just the box. Otherwise - if you want someone to lead by example - why not Jedi?

Wilko is playing injured. He has two bad knees that need rest. It's never been right since the first game last season when he got his injury against the choppers. The doctors told him last season he needs twelve months off to get it right.

I'd rather have a half fit Wilko than Stringers any day.

If that's correct then we should give him the time to get it right imo.

We can't afford passengers in the side and atm he's looking like one.

Believe me Arab, it is 100% correct.

I did think Wilko was very good with Bojic last week against the scum though.
Yeah I must admit our defence was the one part of our game last week we could be happy with.

Regarding Wilko and his injury(s) you would think at some point they will catch up with him if he's not given the time to recover properly.

From what I saw seen so far, Bojic looks a quality player. Once Boogs is at full match fitness, there is no reason why Wilko cant be rotated/rested to get him through.

I have faith in Ossie, before his injury he was probably one of our best and can make RB his own

Agreed, sooner or later something has to give. It is amazing the injuries these guys play with. They don't earn anything near what they should.

Stars Return To Boost Mariners - 442

CENTRAL Coast Mariners' quest for their first win of the Hyundai A-League season will be boosted by the return of two star players on Sunday.
Powerful striker Dylan Macallister and tough-tackling midfielder Mile Jedinak are both expected to be available when the Mariners take on Queensland Roar at Suncorp Stadium.

Macallister has not played since the Pre-Season Cup after suffering a rib injury in a victory against Queensland while Jedinak played no part in the warm-up tournament as he battled a groin injury, but both have trained strongly this week.

"They looked good at training so we'll see how they pull up later in the week," Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna said.

"But they both should be available for selection which is a big boost for us. They are both very important members of our squad."

"Dylan gives us a lot of options in attack while Mile is one of the best midfielders in the country."

The Mariners need a good result on Sunday after a frustrating start to their fourth A-League campaign.

A first round draw with Newcastle was followed by a 3-2 home defeat against Sydney FC on Saturday night.

McKinna added: "Training has been good, the boys will lift for Queensland."
