how do ppl rate lagana from what they have seen?

Can be quiet at time, but has good moments

drifted in and out of the game last saturday on canberra but looked composed on the ball

was also pushed off the ball in challenges often

do you feel he would be worth a spot in the squad?

on the basis of that one game in canberra, no, but i have not seen what lawrie has seen in other games and training

Frank Lagana played for Empoli so he must be good!

Oh wait........so did Dez Giraldi ??? ;)  :piralaugh:

Bresciano and Grella did too.

Not trying to make a point, just remembered they went there from Carlton when you mentioned Empoli.

Kosmina keeps Aloisi out of harm's way
July 15, 2008

SYDNEY FC coach John Kosmina will not be unveiling John Aloisi in Saturday night's opening pre-season cup match against Queensland Roar at Campbelltown, but denies he's keeping his big-money recruit in cotton wool.

Aloisi, 32, is three months into his rehabilitation from a knee operation, and although he is likely to be used only sparingly - if at all - during the pre-season competition, his coach is excited by his progress.

"It's not about keeping him in cotton wool because he's already played in a few internal trials - he played 45 minutes last week, he did well, so we know he's well on the way to recovery," Kosmina said. "It's more about protecting him from a couple of niggles he's had for a while. I'll assess him again next week, but at this stage I can't say whether he'll play at all during the pre-season.

"This competition is more about taking a look at the fringe players. There's not much more I need to know about Johnny. I can already see what quality he brings, his experience comes through every time he's on the park."

Aloisi - on a two-year deal believed to be worth $1.3 million a season - insists he's ready and willing to deal with the pressure of being the A-League's highest-paid player. The Socceroos striker chose to rule himself out of last month's hectic World Cup qualifying campaign to make sure he's in top condition for the season-opener against arch-rivals Melbourne Victory on August 16. Primed for a big year for both club and country - he's determined to force his way back into Pim Verbeek's plans for the second phase of the World Cup campaign - Aloisi is backing himself to rise to the challenge.

"Look, as a striker there's always pressure wherever you go," he said. "I've been under that pressure before, and it goes with the territory. If the team is not winning, and not scoring goals, the first one they're [fans] going to blame is the striker. All I want to make sure of is I do well. This club has room to grow, and it will grow because for the game to grow, Sydney needs to be strong, and I want to be part of that.

"As for the marquee stuff, it doesn't bother me. When I'm with the other [Sydney FC] players, I don't feel like I'm the marquee player. I feel like one of the boys, just a teammate like everyone else. I hope they see me the same way."

After the season-opener against Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC make the short trip to Gosford for a round-two confrontation with Aloisi's former club, Central Coast Mariners, and he's bracing himself for a warm reception at Bluetongue Stadium.

"The 'Marinators' will probably give me a bit of stick, I expect it," he said. "But I really enjoyed my time there, and I think a lot of their supporters respect what I did. At least that's what they told me before I left."

Kosmina, meanwhile, will give Manly United left-sided utility Joey Schirripa another chance to impress in Saturday's match against Queensland, but confirmed fellow hopeful Shannon Cole remained in contention for a contract.

Central Coast are believed to be on the verge of re-signing local midfielder Oliver Bozanic, 19, who has spent the past 18 months with English side Reading.

Olly Bozanic? Where did that come from? Good young quality player if true but I'd be surprised, he impressed me with his short stint in V2's pre-season cup
