Interesting and IMO smart we are signing key players ... sometimes clubs wait until the new coach arrives thus letting the coach choose his side... I think its OK to sign key players and my logic tells me all signed players plus Urena & Tongyik were all on Staj's list to resign...

A new coach (especially if it's Monty or Cahn) wouldn't be unhappy with the squad signed so far to build around you'd think, especially after this season.

For mine one of the best and maybe unsung stories is that Rowles is considered such a massive signing. At the beginning of this season I think most of us would have thought of him as a bench player at best - now it feels like a coup to keep him. Sign of how far along he's come.

Really what are you looking for if urena and RT get signed? L side Winger/Wingback and #10. Maybe a 3rd forward.

About that, yes. And a structure to suit the squad we have, and development of players and bringing up and developing more youth

A lot of player releases announced today and I have to say, not many I'd be keen to chase hard. Maybe Muller.

I'd love Urena and Ruon to be announced next.

Closely followed by Hemed. If we can't get a signing of minimum his ability as a striker, do any of you who watch the academy have confidence any of the strikers there could step up as comfortably as Hall? Cahill perhaps?

On Reddit there was a list of players leaving Phoenix.
The Nix fans seemed to think Hemed was still in talks with them.

I had a feeling he would depart WSW and he might be the sort of player Ken alludes to on the podcast?
I havent been able to listen to it yet but read about the comments. There's a few that would be worth a look across the league. Guarrotxena, Mueller, Puyo wasnt bad but not really a spot we need. Could be some from City that want more game time but not announced yet.

No he hasn’t. I have heard from two sources two different things - one said he has re-signed one year with us, the other that he has signed a multi-year contract with Sydney FC Both I consider solid sources so not sure what is going on.
Ask Shaun and Peter prior what Happen with runo

I just hope we don’t go for McDonald. I don’t think mr negativity is the right fit for our generally young squad. If he was to start yelling at our youngsters or Nisbet the fans wouldn’t be on his side.

MATT SIMON PENS ONE-YEAR EXTENSION WITH THE MARINERS

Mariners great Matt Simon has signed a one-year extension with the club that will see him play on for the A-League 2021/22 season.

The club’s all-time leading goal scorer, Simon had one of his best individual seasons on 2020/21, scoring 10 times and assisting another three goals as he formed a formidable partnership up front with Costa Rican Marco Urena.

2021/22 will be Simon’s 12th season with the Mariners, and with 288 A-League matches already under his belt will likely see him break the 300-game mark.

The veteran striker said he is looking forward to another campaign and growing the support and pride for the Mariners that has returned to the Coast.

“This season that we just had was very successful, and after speaking to the club and talking about going around for another year it was an easy decision in the end,” he said.

“It was nice to score the goals, but even nicer to finish third on the table and I’m very happy with how the team and the club went this year and I’m already looking forward to next year.”

“I’ve mentioned the Wollongong game, when we played Wellington down there it actually felt like a home game for us.”

“That was a time I actually thought it was getting back to the good old days with the support we’ve had, and I think the crowd really appreciated what we were able to do this year, and to have them come back to the ground and support us the way they did is a testament to them.”

Mariners Head of Football Ken Schembri welcomed Simon’s commitment to another campaign on the Central Coast.

“Matty’s name is synonymous with the Mariners, and we were very keen to have him return for another season,” Schembri said.

“He had a terrific season on the pitch this season, but he also brings so much value in the dressing room as a leader and as a mentor for the young members of our squad, and that aspect of his contribution will be so important in the Mariners continued forward progress.”
So the BANNER lives for another season...

Was thinking the same when he was released. Always got the feeling he was never fit at WSW. With a solid preseason and a run of match time he could be a weapon.
I thought he was a little lacking as a modern fullback however three at the back seemed to suit him as a centre back.
