heff and mile are defintely out for friday and dylan is 50/50

hjutch also picked up a hip injury - don't know how serious

From what I heard Mile and Boogs out, Macca and Heff 50/50

heff hasn't trained for three weeks and did not train yesterday

i hope you are right dj

Mile is a massive loss, Boogs can be covered, Heff's pace would be an asset against sack whacker, and Macca's strength would be nice up front!

Sadly I think Heff will need another week, Lawrie won't rush anyone back and risk further injury.

Goomps Looks For Early Comeback

Aug 12 2008 09:37
Get more on: mariners | aleague
CENTRAL Coast Mariners midfielder Andre Gumprecht has targeted an October comeback after a successful knee surgery.
The operation was to repair a medial ligament tear to his left knee, sustained in the Mariners 2-1 Pre-Season Cup triumph over the Queensland Roar at Perry Park two weeks ago.

Gumprecht suffered the injury after a challenge early in the second half of the Mariners victory over their Queensland rivals, before completing the remainder of the match.

As a result of this latest setback, Gumprecht is now set for a minimum six-week stint on the sidelines, with the 32-year-old targeting the Mariners Hyundai A-League fixtures in October for a comeback from his second serious injury while with the Mariners.

"Its obviously a devastating blow for me to be ruled out for such a large part of the season before weve even started, but Im very determined to return from this setback fitter and stronger than ever so that I can hopefully play a significant part in our season," said Gumprecht.

"The surgeon tells me that the operation was very successful and that I should be fine to start light training in six weeks, at which point Ill be working day in day out to regain my place in the Mariners starting side."

Aside from Gumprechts long-term injury concern, the Mariners continue to work behind the scenes to nurse Paul OGrady and Greg Owens back to full fitness, with both having missed the entirety of the Mariners pre-season with achilles and hamstring concerns respectively.

OGrady is now on the cusp of a return to full training, while Owens will resume full training with his team-mates within the next month, with a view to becoming eligible for selection by mid-September.

The Mariners are also sweating on the fitness of three key players for Fridays Hyundai A-League opener away to the Newcastle Jets, with Nigel Boogaard, Dean Heffernan and Mile Jedinak each struggling to overcome minor injuries that have curtailed their progress in recent weeks.

Boogaard was withdrawn from the Mariners Pre-Season Cup fixture at Perry Park two weeks ago with a groin injury, which was initially feared to be serious enough to warrant an overnight stay in hospital.

However, upon further examination, Boogaards injury was found to be not as serious as first feared, though the Qantas Under 23s squad member will continue to be monitored closely in the coming days.

Heffernan continues to make progress from his long-term injury, which was sustained when the Qantas Socceroo prospect broke his tibia in the closing stages of Mariners heartbreaking 5-4 defeat at the hands of Sydney FC at Bluetongue Stadium in December of last year.

Jedinak has not played since reporting a groin strain after the Mariners 2-1 loss to the New Zealand Under 23s at Knox Grammar School in mid-July, but has recommenced light training in a bid to be front and centre for the Mariners keenly anticipated Round 1 date away to their 2008 Hyundai A-League Grand Final adversaries.

"We have a few lingering injury concerns at present, but Im confident with the depth that we have at our disposal that no matter what the team is that we put on the park for Round 1 that it will be a team capable of coming away with three points," said Mariners Football Manager Lawrie McKinna.

"Never in our history have we had a clean slate with injuries and it would be unrealistic of us to expect to go through the entire campaign without suffering the odd injury setback and the character that we gain from overcoming this type of adversity is what shapes us as a team and as a club.

"Well continue to monitor the progress of Boogaard, Heffernan and Jedinak throughout the week and, fingers crossed, well have all three available for Round 1, but Im certain that we have the right players to do the job required in any case.

"We will also do all that we can to get Gumprecht back on the pitch as soon as possible, its never easy for players to bounce back from long-term injury, but I have no doubts that with Andres work ethic and ambitions to achieve in season four, well see him back in action as soon as is humanly possible."

Any news about Boogs, Heff and Jedinak for this week. I got masacared in my Fantasy league team with these guys not playing haha. Add in Sarkies, Diego and it wasn't a good week. Transfered in Pedj the Ledj so it can only get better. If Bojic stays fit he could be transfer of the year...

Lawrie McKinna said this after the Jets match:
Link"Hopefully next week the likes of Boogaard, Heffernan and Macallister can rejoin the squad and we can start to get stronger over the coming weeks."
Thats the only clue I've seen so far.

Bozza on the bench: McKinna
Thursday, 21 August 2008

.................

Meanwhile, talented defender Nigel Boogaard is expected to be selected in the Mariners squad after recovering from a groin injury sustained in the Pre-Season Cup win against Queensland.

Boogaard got through a full session on Thursday.

While there was good news on Boogaard, McKinna said Socceroo midfielder Mile Jedinak (groin) and striker Dylan Macallister (ribs) have been ruled out for this match, although both are expected to be back for round three.

Dean Heffernan is also still battling a leg injury and could be on the sidelines for another month, making it nine months since the defender played his last Hyundai A-League game, ironically against Sydney FC, when the Sky Blues won a classic encounter 5-4 and Heffernan unfortunately broke his leg at the death.

With a draw and a defeat from the opening two matches, McKinna is hopeful of having his squad options strengthend for round three.

He said: "Were hopeful that Macallister and Mile Jedinak will be back next week, Id say theyll definitely be involved in some way.

"Heffernan is still another three to four weeks, but we have to focus on picking ourselves up and getting a competitive team on the park in Queensland next week, because no games are easy in the Hyundai A-League.

Stars Return To Boost Mariners - 442

CENTRAL Coast Mariners' quest for their first win of the Hyundai A-League season will be boosted by the return of two star players on Sunday.
Powerful striker Dylan Macallister and tough-tackling midfielder Mile Jedinak are both expected to be available when the Mariners take on Queensland Roar at Suncorp Stadium.

Macallister has not played since the Pre-Season Cup after suffering a rib injury in a victory against Queensland while Jedinak played no part in the warm-up tournament as he battled a groin injury, but both have trained strongly this week.

"They looked good at training so we'll see how they pull up later in the week," Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna said.

"But they both should be available for selection which is a big boost for us. They are both very important members of our squad."

"Dylan gives us a lot of options in attack while Mile is one of the best midfielders in the country."

The Mariners need a good result on Sunday after a frustrating start to their fourth A-League campaign.

A first round draw with Newcastle was followed by a 3-2 home defeat against Sydney FC on Saturday night.

McKinna added: "Training has been good, the boys will lift for Queensland."
