ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

With players like Maty, Musti, Rogic, Jedi and Bernie all plying their trade overseas, I thought we should have a thread dedicated to monitoring their progress. Please post news articles, scores and twitter updates in this thread - unless it's worthy of a new thread in its own right.

To kick things off, Bernie scored 2 and Danny scored 1 for Shanghai SIPG in their 4-1 win overnight in China. Great start for Bernie, especially, since he is only on a 1 year deal and really needs to impress in a hurry.

MOD EDIT - for easy tracking of players' progress, we've added links to transfermarkt so people can have a squiz:

Rogic looked overrated in Victory game yesterday although he hit the crossbar with a lovely long range strike.

I really hope Sains gets time overseas. He is such a great talent (as we all know first hand) and he'd be wasted on the bench not to mention he is arguably the best out-and-out defender Australia has so we need him to have time so he can get fit for the World Cup and join up with the boys so he can be used to the Socceroos for the Asian Cup which is where we'll really need him.

. welcome to the forum ... we will certainly miss Sains ... please treat him well, our country needs him
. i know practically nothing of the dutch football league, but i understand it will better suit Trent's game than many of the other leagues young Aussies head to ... and he will continue to develop as a consequence
. he is very laid back ... even by Aussie standards ... and may appear shy. but this makes him extremely calm on the football pitch, hopefully his relaxed demeanor does not deter your coaching staff (as it did a certain former manager of the national team)
. as others have mentioned, please drop by the forum and let us know how he gets on and what you think of him. the only problem i see is that you may not fit in here ... because your written English is superior to so many of us
Hahaha, thanks! It's not all me though, some credit must go to google translate.
There is a good reason people know little about the Dutch Eredivisie. It is known by pessimists as the Mickey Mouse league since we can't match the leagues around us, and in most cases probably never will. For instance the EPL, the Primera Division, the Bundesliga, Serie A, the French Ligue 1 and even the Portuguese and the Russians are doing better at the moment. On the other hand, optimists say, that makes us an ideal stopover for future stars on their way to the top. Romario, Ronaldo (the Brazilian one), Ibrahimovic they all played in the Eredivisie.
Next to that we seem to be pretty good at scouting and developing young athletes. In my opinion I think we could be compared to Australia. Both countries have like 20 mill inhabitants but nonetheless excell in sports.
Our coach (Ron Jans), who just signed a new contract, has a teaching background (I've always preferred coaches with an educational background). He's a great guy, which is not of the greatest importance, but I guess if Trent seems shy he is a coach that will try to make him feel right at home.

Question: If you would compare Trent Sainsbury to a more well-known player, who would that be?

Maybe a (much) less talented version of fabio cannavaro?
But maybe I am being biased?

Didn't cannavaro not receive a single yellow card in 2006 World Cup. Very clean player...
Not very tall either.
Smart and composed.
And he was calm for an Italian

Arnie and WeeMac off to a flying start. They recorded a 7-0 preseason training run over Kagoshima University.

Anyone know of any good sites to follow J-league news? Would like to track Arnie and WeeMacs progress.

Most sites I've found are pretty lame or in Japanese.

Trent is not a typically physical back (Not saying he pushed around), more athletic than a butcher. That is why it is thought Holland suits him more than lower UK as he has skills that suit the passing game not long ball & leg breaking.

Reads the game very well, has great touch, strong passing long & short balls.

Not a scoring back though - Scored his first & only A League goal the other week after 60-70 games & that was more a scrappy tap in.

Will he walk straight into your side? Has he been bought to cover an injury or weak player etc?

From what I understand is that they have only 4 CBs. Two are currently out injured which means Trent should start. The next two games are against Ajax and FC Etrecht so a massive test for him. I think he will do very well.,
