ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Aloisi Our Marquee and Captain for 08/09?

I'd definately sign Aloisi as our Marquee player. Viddy has been good for us but doesn't derserve any more money than Boogs or Wilko. I'd keep him but only a squad player (bloody good cover) and therefore he would be paid accordingly.

Changed the thread title to go along with this article.

Aloisi ponders his playing future

JOHN ALOISI'S future could be decided within the next 24 hours following talks between the Central Coast Mariners and his agent.

The striker's contract expires in March, and if a new deal cannot be agreed upon a number of A-League clubs are circling - including Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory.

Aloisi has been promised the captaincy of the Mariners if he stays, but Sydney FC have made him a similar offer.

The much-travelled World Cup warrior also has options in Spain, Germany, Scotland and Japan - the nation he scored against in successive games for the Socceroos.

I really do hope he stays with us.

I had the pleasure of meeting him today, he is a really nice bloke and is finding some very good form.

After last night's game, I need some good news and am hoping it will be that Aloisi has signed on to continue with the Mariners.

I would rather keep Wilkinson as captain. He is a great captain. It would be hard for Aloisi to captain when he is playing up front. It would be more of a title, rather than a role.

It's a bit hard on wilko. He's worked the hard way been with us since day one and is being groomed into a future socceroo and it would be rough justice for aloisi who i dont think has ever captained a team to waltz on in and steal it.

I know what you are saying, however if that is what it takes to keep Aloisi with us, then give it to him IMO.

With or without the cpatains armband, Wilko will still do the same role. He'll marshal our defence like he does now and won't stop talking for 90 minutes.

do whatever to keep him here. Change Gosford to Aloisiford if need be.
Anyway, we could always get Super Mario ;)

I agree and with Viddy most likely going next year,  wilko will be the new experienced head in the centre of defence which automatically brings more responsibilities.

I guess we could what happens abroad and have an on-field captain (wilko) and a club captain (Aloisi) for off field engagements.

Does anyone know if this progressed.

All the talk last week was that the Xmas week was when this was supposed to be wrapped up or at least progressed. Have seen Jack on this. Would be interested if anyone knows a little bit more about it?

I dont think it needs to be sorted out in a hurry IMO hell wait until we win either the Championship/Premiership and we can guarantee ACL football which I think is a massive carrot for him.

As for the captaincy, I would think he would be a bigger player than that being a deciding factor

TBH it's 11.30pm and I couldn't be bothered reading the other two pages of this thread.  If nobody has said it, I thought that Wilko was resigned for another three years, which included captaincy.  Through injury, he has barely had a chance to "captain" his side properly, therefore I would like to see Wilko continue his role as captain.  I would also like to see Aloisi return for V4,  but at the expense of Wilko, I'm not sure.

That's what i've been thinking as well, he'll stay as long as we're in the ACL.

and I would think when we qualify for that it might interest a few new players to the club next season to

I think the whole captaincy thing for John is just paper talk and I don't see how that would sway him either way. I can't see it being a deal maker or breaker for him. At the end of the day, he's home for good, I can't see him leaving Australia again. It seems fairly obvious to me he has come home for the good of his family and to raise his kids here.

I don't see why he would leave the Coast to go to another A-League club. He seems happy here and we all know there's no better place in Australia to bring up a family (where the A-League clubs are based anyway).

It is an honour and a privilege for us to have him playing for us and he is the biggest A-League signing ever. I still can't believe he is a Mariner.

I've also had the opportunity to talk to Alex regularly at the player functions and he is a magnificent young man. Very mature and a genuine leader. It's not hard to see why Lawrie picked him as captain. He is very proud to be captain of our great club.

It really is astonishing to see how far we have come in almost three years. We are well on our way to becoming as Mr Gorman says " a centre of excellence".

I just wish the media would acknowledge what is happening here.

They wont and it will be very sweet when we win a title this year and they all come running saying "we knew you were going to achieve it"

Or something about it being a fairytale season and the GF will probably be called David vs Goliath, no matter who we play.

Nick Carle is being let go by his Turkish club, perhaps we could snap him up??  I certainly wouldn't say no to him at all.......

I'd take him purely on the fact that it would really piss off the squadrunts.

Carle said we he left to go to Turkey that he would only ever play for Scum if he returned.

I know things change in Football, but I'd be suprised to see him go anywhere else.
