Great to eke out a 2-goal win The low crowd numbers are really disappointing - what does this club have to do to get the support of the locals??

I kind of think 2 goals flattered us a bit, and I think Roar lost that one almost more than we won it.

That last attack they had, took a shot that went past the post. You need to sink those ones - and they threw away the draw with that one. They score there, changes the picture so our 2nd goal doesn't happen (and who knows what happens after they score), makes it a draw - or worse. So, we got a bit lucky, I think. Ideally with lower teams we'd be in a more decisive position by that point in the match so it's not down to them missing. I actually don't even remember how he got that shot off.

But I was getting very, very nervouse. We were on the back foot for a lot, late in the 2nd half, and a goal from them was looking more and more likely. Makes me wonder if we still didn't approach it with the same fight we've had the last few rounds.

New kid was ok, not much to speak of so far. That shot he took was....well, not sure why he took that. First game jitters perhaps. No stress, keen to see what he brings.

No standouts for me, reasonable performances by most with a few below par. Wilson should be performing better by this point. Getting offside a few minutes after coming on isn't going to endear himself to the coach, the card was pointless and he put in a poor cross.

I think about 4 yellow cards tonight were for tackles worse than that red card we saw this weekend (though I think all but 1 yellow was the right decision). Just made me a bit nervous when Faz got his - we've had VAR intervene for less. Silliness really, no reason or benefit to those tackles. Seemed like a high card count game for game that wasn't particularly feisty...though as a ref, I've had high card counts on calm games, and low (or no) cards on intense, firey games. Sometimes it happens!

So great to see somebody score their first - and almost get a second identical goal!! Exciting stuff from Pizio, keen to see what comes next from him. He just knew when to release those 2 as well - if he's going to keep being confident enough to release these balls early enough then that will really boost our attack. Torres doing well and linking up well too, could well be a key feature of our attack.

I'm happy with the win if not the performance tonight.

I'm happier with the squad when you consider that Migsy will be here at least until the end of the season, Tappy and Steele will provide CM cover in the next month and we have added a target man and a right winger.

To me the squad looks quite well balanced (though I would have liked to keep Cam) and with more experience will only get better. This is still a very young side with an average age of around 23 (22 if you include Brandtman and Duarte). Even the imports have an average age of only 24. We have 19 players that are 23 or less including 8 that are 20 or less.

Those older including Danny, Nizz, Brian and Storm provide the steadying influence that is allowing others to flourish.

Gotta say we are in a fantastic position to handle the absolute slog of fixtures that is February.

We have 3 strikers fighting for one spot.

2 right backs fighting for one spot.

Barring injury we would have had 2 dms fighting for one spot.

We have 2 right wingers fighting for one spot.

Jacko has the team extremely well balanced imo and honestly I have to say his game management and contingency planning / flexibility actually shades Monty.

Everyone’s been crying out for a Saturday 7.45pm KO and then complain that it’s too late for families when we finally get a (deserved) prime-time slot.
I was surprised to be surrounded by families with little kids, much more so than usual.

There were plenty of reasons for a smaller crowd this weekend. The one my mate gave was it's a shit time (he's got no kids) but he might be in the minority.

We've got Sydney at home in 2 weeks at 7.45 on a Saturday, that'll be the real test for the time slot.

I think MJ is miles above Monty tactically. The only area we are weaker tactically are set pieces. We had so many more variations last season that we don’t this season.

it was really good time for a match, weather was perfect, just a shame there was a monster truck show couple of kms away at the Showgrounds. Driving along Showgrounds road to the stadium there was cars everywhere.

The press Cahn set them up for early first half was actually very tidy, I’m sure he’ll do something decent up there with time on the training park and some of his own signings. They made it difficult but our boys persevered and Jacko made an adjustment to target Hingerts side (said so post match).

We just need a ruthless and hungry striker to complete the puzzle right now along with a fully fit squad, alou did not cut the mustard tonight. I’m sure he works hard at training but he doesn’t look into it on match day and hasn’t basically all season. Somethings going on with him… as has been mentioned Jings rise in form along with a new main man in town should be enough encouragement, he doesn’t look phased…
My guess (pure guess) on Alou's form is that when he started with us he was raw but full of energy and instinct. It got him in front of defenders who couldn't predict his movements combined with that reach, speed and enthusiasm.
Since then he has been 'coached' in Germany to play in a more predictable way and so some of that pure unpredictable instinct has been trained out of him. I think he needs to just throw himself at the ball in his old instinctive way again

Doka... I think there will be a marked difference when he has Ronald in front of him from the get go.
This big time. Doka has some flair and skill but is often snatching at play and the players around him aren't on the same wavelength. I think after a bit of time with Barcellos there might be some much greater form to be seen.

Barcellos is another quality player from the glimpses seen last night

Wasn't our best performance but I think there were a couple of factors.

Cahn had a plan to stop us and whilst they used it for possession and to choke our flow, our boys were calm, measured and aware and let them create nothing of meaning with it and then punished them when we could.

Also I think since Tulio left and injuries we're playing with a couple of bench players who are adjusting to be part of the well oiled machine.
I back Theo but he is still not the complete player. When he smooths out the rough bits, the running into dead ends rather than an intelligent pass for example, he'll be starting 11 worthy.
When Tappy, Steele, Barcellos and Ryan are all fighting fit I think we win that game 6-0.

Barcellos is a classy player, he and Torres on the field together will end up confusing and tearing holes in defences. With Niz at 10, Faz and Roux biombing forward, a decent striker to rip up defences and sweeping and direct through balls from Kaltak and Balard - wow we might be in for a treat.

Great to see Brandtman get a debut even if only for 2 mins.

Great win and again great to win when not at our best - championship team material. How amazing is it to say that after losing half the team (our stars too) and our coaching pair that put it all together 4 weeks before seasons start!

On the crowd - as usual there are reasons but it's a shame.

Last weekend of school holidays it seems there were activities packed in all over the coast to tempt families. Also covid is still rife on the coast. I can count at least 6 people I know who couldn't go because of it.

The weather/conditions were perfect and I think the timing wasn't a disaster during holidays (great for the sun) but probably limited families with young children.

The shame of it is that there seems to always be something. If not competition with monster trucks etc., it's way too hot, or storming heavily, or 3rd game at home in a row and so forth with the reason for some not to commit.

We just can't seem to get any crowd momentum up. I often wonder what proportion at a game are members. If it's a lot of members away it's less of an impact - they already have our money at least

I can’t believe how many people are objecting about the 7:45 time slot! Everybody complains when it’s 5pm they can’t get there from sport / work, and 9 times out of 10 in Jan it’s too hot!!!

It’s the prime time slot. We don’t get enough of them. Fair enough to call it late on a Sunday night or midweek, but Saturday?

Controversial opinion but I have no problem with concurrent games (time zone relevant) from Dec - Feb, basically school hols. Its the hottest damn time of the year, play games as late as possible to draw the best crowd and get the best football possible. Play Thurs nights too.

Having Perth and 2*NZ teams means that alternate time slots are available if the broadcaster actually cares.

I don’t know how much is complaining and how much is just trying to make sense of it. Probably a mix of things as others have said but if we keep doing poorly in this slot outside of big fixtures like NYE we won’t be pushing for them. Let’s see how the next one goes
