If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

We did quite well with the side we put out and there were a lot of Duke 6.5. Worked hard and the highlight was rag dolling that bitch Salley when they had A scuffle.

Actually on that... I have to say, I was fairly impressed with Duke in dealing with Salley - a lesser player would've bl**dy knocked him out by the end of that game... Salley took a pretty direct physical approach at times looking almost dangerous to me... I was a bit surprised at that I have to say... For all that I think it's fairly obvious that we got the rub of the green, I still think Salley got away pretty bl**dy cheap by the end of the game.

im really surprised at the reaction to arnold not using subs, put yourself in his shoes, after subbing out a totally spent player your team is 1-0 up, mostly in control of the game and your 2 remaining outfielders on the bench have a grand total of 1 professional game between them... unless someones injured its staying that way to full time

If memeory serves me right, a win in the ACL used to be a $50k payment to the club, is this still the case or does the FFA hold their hand out for their share of the loot?

I was very proud of the performance.
The young lads really stood up & I think in the end the travel may have taken it`s toll.

Full marks to Duke as well. He handled Salley remarkably well & stepped up to take the penalty.
Great character on both accounts.

We were ok....we were just very dumb. I've lost games in the same situation.......hopefully you learn and get much smarter in closing out a game.

I am interested in reading the comments of those who were actually at the game.

. i don't know what to say ... we arrived back on the coast very late last night. now having read all the comments above i feel really sorry for the kids (and with the exception of hutch & pellers ... maybe olly ... they are ALL kids)

. with regard to the performance i didn't feel as bad most of you lot ... perhaps any of you lot. at the end of the game i felt a bit like in brisbane two years ago ... but nowhere near as bad. reading the posts above i feel a whole different type of disappointment

. admittedly we were badly positioned for actually 'watching' the game. i much prefer watching from the half-way where you can see everything unfold - being positioned at the end, we were miles away from the play and the perspective is so different

. arnie clearly made a decision to focus on the semi (personnel-wise) ... perhaps hoping that a GF win will bring the coast supporters together? he would have been over-joyed with a draw considering the circumstances - a win an unexpected bonus. he almost had either but unfortunately finished with neither

. i agree that his tactics were a little odd particularly towards the end ... but we had seen this in the previous game when he dropped back to defend a lead - i believe this is a little reminiscent of his socceroos days. WE DO NOT DO THIS WELL - we should continue to play our natural game and maintain our rhythm ... perhaps curbing absolute attack is OK ... but a 4-5-1 defensive structure where the 4 and 5 sit a couple of metres apart is just f**ked up and has us using a lot more energy than it should in the dying moments of a game when everyone was already spent

. travelling to guiyang/guizhou is a complete pain in the arse. as a tourist it is extremely tiring ... as a young, inexperienced, professional athlete it must have a detrimental effect on your preparation as well as physical and mental well-being. forget all the bullshit rhetoric about being professional althetes ... these kids are finely tuned athletes travelling without their strength and conditioning coach. the long flights, delayed flights, continual and lengthy security checks, airports delays, bus travel, un-customary food, no down-time and quick turn around coupled with poor air quality, temperature changes and all the other shit (sometimes quite literally) ... can throw this fine tuning out of balance

. for these reasons i can forgive the likes of morten and griffiths making the occasional slip-up against some very experienced internationals playing at home ... the self-absorbed, self-righteous 'supporters' rubbishing their performances from the luxury of their lounge rooms back home - well, not so much

. is that the sort of feedback you wanted roy ;) ... nice write-up by the way

Also back from China.

We played to win ... but didn't. Came damn close, and in my eye-witness opinion they did marvelously ... Guizhou was not allowed to play for 80 mins, then the mental as much as physical tiredness set in.

Ground was a very slick surface for the tackling player trying to keep their feet. One tactical lapse and one slip and we were done, after some excellent team play and discipline.

I was and am very proud of the lads, and happy with how they played.

Having gone back and read the posts here I'm wondering what game they were showing on TV!

Beep, beep to you BG! See you at the game..

Apparently China have honoured Julia Gillard today, for convincing the Mariners to allow 2 late goals and gift Guizhou Renhe the points. Expect a major funding announcement from labour to the Mariners CoE next week :santa:

Actually Julia sent Lawrie a good luck message to the team and fans from Beijing ... we appreciated it

Absolutely right - can you imagine if we had sent a full strength side what effect it would have had?

Which is precisely why I wanted the view of someone who was there. It is so different to watching on telly or for me on a laptop - I didn't even think Pellegrino was as bad as the others who slated him

No worries, the beers are on me :)
writing this with just twenty minutes to go. COYY!

BG, your welcome to a different view of events as is everyone, always. I may be completely wrong, it won't be the first or last time, and I'm happy to discuss all the why's of what I base my thoughts on. But I'm pretty sure I'm also entitled to my own opinion and a rare rant Bikini without being called self absorbed, self righteous or an implied lazy armchair critic though. Those seem a bit more like personal attacks to me. And saying, and I quote myself, "I disagree with those that rate Morton and Griffiths" is hardly "rubbishing" now is it.

No interested in staring an argumnet. I've always really enjoyed your posts and respected your opinion, whether I was in agreement with you or not.

Peace

FP

. 'twas not intended as a personal attack at anybody (just providing the feedback roy requested) ... but i was surprised and disappointed that (generally speaking) everybody was rubbishing the team and their performance. i did not have the time or inclination to respond to each individual post whether i agree with it or not

. nobody seemed willing to recognise the circumstances or the gulf in experience levels between the two teams - which showed in the first goal (the occasional slip-up). but if zac had have covered morten for the first and hutch wasn't so easily turned and/or qu had put the ball wide from a difficult angle on the second ... would people have seen it different? or would any and all credit go to arnold? it's now impossible to say

. by the way, i thought pellers played one his best games for us in that game ... but that says more about his other performances than this one

. and, fp, you can keep your peace until next monday ;)

:goodpost:

Unless something changes, it's a half spot still though isn't it now. So we will have to play off and succeed where Brisbane failed. Not a good idea to take the Thai's lightly I think.

Why cant you guys get bums on seats for these matches that have such a high degree of prestige?
You make all Aleague look bad with only a couple of thousand in attendance.
