At first, we were losing,
But then, we were cruising,
We scored on the left,
We scored on the right,
Walking in a Mariners Wonderland

It was just wonderful to be there tonight. I hope some of the 15000-odd who might have come particularly to see ADP got something better - CCM pride, joy and passion (and goals :piralaugh: ). Coasties who really want to see ADP still have 2 more chances this season - it's not that far to the SFS.

I wonder if we'll hold the record for goals scored against Sydney FC for ever (and who would be more deserving).

But really, could have been more. And I'd be even more happy if we hadn't given up so much cheap possession - I'm sure Arnie's on it.

So... WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE, SAY WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE!
(I feel a little dirty but) Brisbane to get a result over Adelaide tomorrow to keep us there.

What a great game! I don't know if I could have handled anymore goals! Can you overdose on goals? Great effort, we're back on the top of the ladder where we belong!

Congrats to Macca on his hat trick he put in an amazing game tonight! First mariners player to score a hat trick?

I tipped Mariners by three. Sydney are and have been rubbish, I was confident we would thrash them, but not to that extent!
:piralaugh: :piralaugh: :piralaugh:
I'm still walking around periodically chuckling.

Magic night to be a CCM supporter. As said, Sydney are woeful, but we are a hell of a side. GA is a magnificent coach. So glad you weren't trying to rework that mess down the road GA and getting shit flung on you by the cove because you had a roster of over hyped under quality players.

Go behind...
Don't worry, it's McFlynn to save the day.
Ohhh how I laughed.

Congrats to all the team. Brilliant football. Some of the best the HAL has seen. And certainly our most dominant ever home performance. Almost 16K in the stands? Talk about great timing for once guys!!! Only Sainsbury was a bit out of sorts I thought. But Weemac (wtf blind passing to SFC aside  ) He, Tommy and Danny were just outstanding.

Nix will be much stiffer opposition of course, and a really good yard stick. So I'm really looking forwad to it. How could you not?

Bring on the Magicians!

Del Piero dodged a bullet as the Mariners turned Sydney’s trip up the F3 into the Road to Hell.
The sublime Tommy Rogic and brilliant Michael McGlinchey were the magicians who tore Sydney apart with Daniel McBreen their willing straight man.

It all started so well for the Sky Blues: the Mariners had been calmly knocking the ball around on the billiard table surface of Bluetongue Stadium when Rogic mishit a pass to Sydney. Moments later Yairo Yau produced a sublime finish over Mat Ryan to give Sydney the lead. The Mariners, affronted, poured forward, their brilliant passing and movement tearing Sydney to ribbons. Rogic and McGlinchey exquisitely set up McBreen but his finish didn’t match the approach play; Rose forced his way through on the left but the Mariners couldn’t capitalise; Sainsbury blazed over from the left. Mariners’ players were everywhere: Rose marauding on the left, McGlinchey and Bojic unstoppable on the right, Rogic, in front of Holger Osiek, casually brushing defenders aside, and Hutchinson and Montgomery the twin pistons keeping the engine running at full throttle. Sydney could not hold out any longer and an irresistible attack saw Rogic calmly place the ball past Necevski.

Ten minutes later Rogic did a remarkable thing – he did the ordinary: the obvious. With an overlap looming out left he instead had a dig from thirty metres, the sort of thing you might expect from John Hutchinson or Danny McBreen. Necevski wasn’t good enough to hold it and the willing McBreen chased the rebound and forced Ryall into an own goal. Yau had a great chance from a McGlinchey mistake but couldn’t repeat his ice-cool finish for his goal and blazed the ball over Ryan’s bar. The Mariners ignored the brief Sydney foray and tails up went looking for more, and got it. McGlinchey and Bojic toyed with Sydney and it was McGlinchey who was clumsily tumbled by Ryall for a penalty which McBreen brutally smashed home.

3-1 at half time; the Mariners looked for more but an improved Sydney fought back and a marvellous goal from Abbas cut the deficit. Would Sydney make a game of it, would they fight back for a draw? In a word: no. The Mariners released their own version of Hurricane Gosford and smashed 4 goals in twelve minutes. A McGlinchey left foot gem, then Rogic making Sydney’s defenders look silly and finally a McBreen brace for the first ever Mariners’ A League hat-trick. A record 7 goals for the Mariners in front of an impressive 15,000+ crowd. Bernie Ibini replaced Sterjovski but offered Sydney no respite as his spirited running had them on the back foot. He almost made it 8 from a Bojic run and cross.

It is rare for the Mariners to turn in a good display when a big crowd fronts up at Bluetongue but the crowd got more entertainment than they will ever get from the annual fair on the waterfront on New Year’s Eve as Sydney were sliced, diced, and ground into oblivion by a compelling display of skill, pace, intelligence, confidence and professionalism. The Mariners took the applause from the crowd, Sydney with heads down crawled off in shame; Arnie gave his mate Ian Crook a consoling embrace. As Del Piero was trying to contact Webjet for a plane back home to Italy the Sydney players’ bus headed north for Buttonderry tip. It doesn’t get better than this.

I couldn’t pick a MoM – I shared it between Rogic, McGlinchey and McBreen.

How I saw the players:

Ryan – could do nothing about their goals; he has the quickest release to set up the break but for once his footwork was caught out as he had a kick charged down
Bojic – on any other day he would have won the MoM; he was at his one man wrecking-ball best
Rose – at last, width on the left; great cross for McBreen third goal
Sainsbury – a mixed bag, some good work, a silly yellow, a couple of poor passes – but we are not missing Wilko.
Zwaanswijk – I doubt he had a shower after the game, he can’t have raised a sweat after that armchair ride
Monty and Hutch – inseparable in the middle of the park as they provided all the possession for the geniuses in front of them
Rogic – could reduce Bluetongue to a no-seat stadium as has every spectator on their feet with jaw dropping skills. I dare Holger not to call him into the Socceroos. Enjoy him while you can
McGlinchey – redefines the term ‘ twisted into a knot’ as his skills and trickery completely discombobulated Sydney.
Sterjovski – lots of little classy intelligent touches; blended superbly into the team performance. There is an understated quality to much of his work.
McBreen – I doubt he has ever played a better match in his life. Every great pianist needs someone to shift the piano for them. Rogic and McGlinchey could not have given their virtuoso performance without him. A wonderful example and inspiration to young Ibini and Mitchell Duke.
Ibini - lively and confident, perhaps a bit too eager but he looks arrogant on the ball which I like. Not very far from his best

I was watching this game on a 34cm TV with poor reception so couldn't tell who was who.

Loved the skills we displayed across the park and certainly loved the score line.

I just have one question; what was going on in defense/midfield with the cheap turnovers at the wrong end of the field? We've had great defense all year but seemed to make a bunch of silly mistakes. If we did that against another team who had a defense of their own (unlike Bling FC) we could have been in big trouble.

For the record it was Sterjovski that mishit the pass for the first goal, not Rogic. Great match report though! :D

A fantastic win!! it`s great to be a Mariner.!!

I must admit though the cheap turnovers were a very concerning.A quality opponent would have punished us.

However, our enthusiasm was just so overwhelming, it picked Sydney up & swept them aside.

I`m very impressed with McBreen this year.In the past I have criticised him but tonight he was quality & played probably he best game for us.

Most disappointing though has to be Sterjovski.I thought Arnie should have hooked him after 20m,but maybe out of respect he left him on.I`m sure it won`t be long before Olly is back in the starting lineup.

The difference between the sides,I thought was Weemac. He made space for Rogic with his incisive runs & passes.Sydney just couldn`t handle him & he kept them in two minds.MOM perfomance.

Yellow Army..you guys rock.I was a little bit worried when there was only a handfull 15mins to KO but as usual they sang their hearts out AAA+++

Can`t wait for next weeks game...
