Would be interested to hear if the Chinese railway system, is better than Shittyrail in NSW!

Thanx, at least now I can take comfort in that fact the next time I sit in the train just outside of Hornsby trying to listen to yet another crackly apology over the carriages PA, for our delay, being offered by the poor guard....

And East Asia USED to be the 3rd World!

Beijing-Tianjin bullet train does the 150km journey in just under 30 minutes.  $8 for a first class seat.

Newcastle-Sydney "train" does the 150km journey in what, 2.5, 3 hours??  And how much for a seat that barely befits the word??

I think Newcastle - Sydney is 2.5 hours ALL STOPS. You r right about those seats, bloody uncomfortable. By the time I get on, the best seast (the ones in the corners) are taken up by the sleeping drunks/homeless/Ljubo Milicevic types.

currently there are two types of CRH running on Beijing South - Tianjin high railway,

D5XX = CRH2E (250 - 300 km/h)
C20XX = CRH2C (300 -350 km /h)
C21XX = CRH2C (300 - 350 km/h)
C22XX = CRH3 (300 -350 km/h)

I found this bit of info the other day - "Other lines also go from Tianjin to Beijing, the first train (K40) departs at 3:49AM" - is that not valid anymore??

K40 rans at the Beijing-Shenyang line (also stops at Tianjin Station) not the Beijing South - Tianjin High railway, they are two different railways

Beijing have 4 railway stations, "Beijing" And "Beijing South" are not the same one

The first character of the route identifier usually indicate the class of the passenger train, often determined by the speed. There are five alphabetic prefixes.

C ("Chengji"; Intercity EMU Train) 250 - 350 km/h.
D ("Dongche"; Normal EMU Train) 180 - 300km/h
Z (Direct Express) 160 - 200km/h
T (Express) 120 - 180 km/h
K & N(Fast) 120 - 160 km/h
1-5 General Fast Train 100 -140 km/h
6-9 General Train 60 - 120 km/h
L & A Temporary Train

And so they are not.  Sorry, I've used both stations before so I got confused.

We really don't mind where we arrive back into, the hotel is a simple taxi ride away, so can we hop on that K40 train and just get off at Beijing (proper) station??  (if we want to go home that early)
