ACL Elite vs Shanghai Shenhua

There is so much to unpack in that game I don’t know where to start. Will need to watch it back,

First half I thought we looked hungry and threatening. We weren’t amazing but if we had tried that on against Perth we would have scored. The second we conceded it was like we flicked a switch and went back to stilted, passing around the back. No enthusiasm or strategy.

I thought the subs switched us back on and the passion we showed at the end was reminiscent of the days of old. It was a brilliant come back and a draw that felt like a win.

Positives for me were Paull for most of the game.. also Alfie. I mention them because I wasn’t rating them at all before.

Sasha did well again although looked nervous. Still think he’s brilliant.

Steele looks lost. Had a few good moments but he isn’t confident.

Worrying signs were the squad turning on each other.. there was a LOT of frustration and bland going on, on that pitch. Not exactly united out there.

Also the injuries. When we send out Wilson we are well down the order. (I am also one who desperately wants him to score a winner, but just making the point.)

Somebody mentioned another serious injury at training yesterday?

Where is Duarte??

I have faith we can get a winning team going under Jacko… unless we literally run out of players. We are 3 rounds in to the aleague season, 4 rounds into the AFC… 😳

I agree. As I have said a few times, it because of Alfie, which is why I'm not as high on him as others here appear to be. Even just now Alfie is telling him to play it backwards. Steele just looks like he is following his orders and not able to play his natural game.
Steele's natural game is to play it backwards! However, he wasn't too bad tonight imho.

My takeaway post game watching it in the stadium was that our boys did well enough considering they played only four days ago and with the absences they are having to contend with.

IMO we were the better side for most of the game and whilst we should arguably have defended their goals better, the finishes were top drawer.

To come back from two goals down against the CSL runners up is no mean feat and I left the ground happy enough personally.

Yeah we could and perhaps should have taken all three points but at least we got something from the game, I’ll take it and hopefully tonight’s performance will give the boys confidence for Sunday.

Will take the point.I like Ngor -bumped the defender off and then stroked the ball home-he was very calm.Brandtman's goal was lucky but he was there and reacted quickly enough.
Paull is getting there -more poised and even confident enough to push forward and also pass forward.I was glad to see Wilson come on-the Shanghai boys were double teaming him so he had them worried!

Both their goals were well taken-Peraic- Cullen had no chance. If Kaltak's and Edmo's headers had gone in we may have wiped them out-their keeper was suspect under pressure.

Kuzevski had mixed game but he has the RB position for the time being.

Some good combinations came off in this game, so happy it ended in a result because from what I saw the boys were starting to lose faith in eachother, that draw felt like a win and will galvanize the team and have them trust the process.

Looking at SS more and more I'm a little stunned we were so competitive.

Just some stats from them this season.

-They had a 80% win rate this season.
-They lost just one game this year in their league.
-They conceded 20 goals in 30 games. It's the 3rd lowest in CSL history.
- it's the first time in 5 years any club has come from 2 goals down vs them to take points in all competitions.

Roux was starting to defend like that, which is why he got dropped. Kucevski needs polishing but I believe he will be a gem. Actually looks more promising than Mauragis overall.
Agree. Kuz is looking better and better but he needs to start some games not every game to give him time to improve. Hopefully some solid feedback from the coaching team will support this.
