A-League Transfers and Rumours

What a contrast between the Kewell and Emerton signings. Harry's soap opera dragged out for months, almost to a point where it was damaging the A-league, whereas Emmo's signing (appeared) to happen overnight.

For my money, Harry's going to bring the fans through the turnstyles, but gee, it's hard to go past Emmo for someone that's really going to contribute to the teams performance each and every game, right through the whole season.

Bring on Rd 1 Tard v Choppers :eek:verhead:

Without doubt the greatest week in the short history of the A-League. Not the greatest day: that was when the A-League kicked off but certainly the greatest marquee since Dwight Yorke. I am currently living in the UK (missing Australia like you wouldn’t believe) and I was driving in my car listening to the radio coverage of Arsenal/ Udinese when they cut to Blackburn Rovers who had just scored in the Carling Cup “Brett Emerton...playing his last game before returning to Australia to play for Sydney FC”. I nearly ran off the road. I am a Mariners fan but I know this as simply fabulous news. Kewell returning is a massive lift for the A-League; Emerton is the icing on an already tasty cake. Ben Buckley should buy a lottery ticket. The massive pull these two greats of the game have given to his negotiating position regarding media rights after the current Foxtel deal expires is incalculable. Even before these two signings I expected the A-League to be significantly boosted because of the, finally, sensible home and away scheduling, because of the standard Brisbane set, and because of the increased marketing budget but this news is out of this world. Can you imagine when Melbourne plays Sydney, when Kewell faces Emerton? I am salivating at the crowd that will be at Bluetongue when the Cove turn-up. This is truly awesome; genuinely world class players lifting the profile of the local game beyond all imagination. And what a contrast between the protracted agonising machinations of Kewell and the quiet professionalism of Emerton. Kewell, the Aussie pin-up, wanting to ‘give back to the game’ but like a politician wanting his pound of flesh and Emerton, the kid who stayed in Australia to fulfil his Olympic obligations and now genuinely giving everything back. What a great man, what a true self-effacing, genuine Australian. The A-League is about to enter the most impressive phase of its history because neither of these two super-stars will be able to guarantee either of their sides success because the standard next year will be so good. Finally, long suffering Australian football fans are going to get redemption, are going to see a code that is of genuine quality, a code that will easily match it with the other quality football codes in Australia. I thoroughly enjoy League, Union and AFL; I love State of Origin, and the Bledisloe and the AFL Grand Final but it is Football that gets the bubbles rising through my bloodstream, it is football that could cost me my marriage, it is football that is better than sex and beer; it is in my blood and my soul and I have never been so excited in life at the news of Kewell and Emerton returning. This news finally heralds the arrival of the A-League in the consciousness of all genuine sports fans in Australia. And Lucas Neil and Marc Bresciano will be here next season...

With these Socceroos coming home who would be a good fit for the Mariners?

Bresciano is reported to be currently signed for 2 years and you would think he would want to go to Melbourne(Heart )
Neil? What could he bring us?
Wilkshire? After spending some time in Russia he could use some time on the coast.

Any thoughts?

None of the above.

We have Arnie. If you are looking for socceroo returns then forget that generation because he burned them all in the media at the AFC cup. Then again its been a few years and time heals all wounds so anythings possible.

Keep having to remind myself that we have ACL at the end of the year.

On a year where we were going into the season as one of the top dogs its funny how quickly things can change.

Ladies and gentleman please return to your seats and prepare to resume normal proceedings. Media prediction for CCM this year is finacial trouble and a 8th - 10th place league finish!

You know its going to happen

Don't believe all you read. We were talking seriously to Brett last year - before our 'financial troubles'. Brett decided on one last contract with Rovers and I'm sure if our financial state was different he would have been talking with us this year. Arnie and Brett seemed to have no troubles.

the difference in signings between Harry and Emmo is due to the lack of contract for harry and the under contract of emmo... ie buzz about signing is good for harrys manager but would kill off any chances with emmo

Brisbane finalise squad
Tuesday, 30 August 2011

Issey Nakajima-Farran
Brisbane Roar’s playing squad has been finalised by Head Coach Ange Postecoglou with the signing of Canadian international midfielder Issey Nakajima-Farran on a one-year deal.

Nakajima-Farran was a free agent after recently completing a successful stint with Danish Superliga outfit AC Horsens where he played a part in the club’s 2008/09 UEFA Cup campaign.

Capped 24 times for the Canadian national team, Nakajima-Farran brings the squad number to 20 for the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season.

While Australian football supporters may be unfamiliar with Nakajima-Farran, he is quite familiar with Australian football thanks to some local connections in Denmark.

“I’ve heard a lot about the A-League,” Nakajima-Farran said. “There are quite a few Australian players playing in Denmark.

“I know David Williams who is now at Melbourne and also (Qantas Socceroos goalkeeper) Nathan Coe.

“It was Nathan who talked me into signing for Brisbane, he told me a lot of good things about the style of play and the football philosophy of coach Ange.

“The technical way the club plays is something which is very appealing to me.”

Born in Canada, Nakajima-Farran spent his formative years as a junior footballer in Japan and England at Tokyo Verdy and Crystal Palace respectively.

The bulk of his senior career has been spent in the Danish Superliga and he has twice been instrumental in helping clubs gain promotion to Denmark’s top league.

An attacking midfielder who is comfortable on either wing, and even centrally, the 27-year-old said he was looking forward to bringing another attacking dimension to Brisbane Roar’s play.

“I usually play left wing, even though I’m right footed,” he said.

“I like to penetrate down the sideline and get the ball into the box with my left foot.

“I also like to switch wings with the other winger.

“Opposition defences like to watch video and work out how sides play, so I like to be able to switch sides to keep them unbalanced.”

There was one final component which helped Nakajima-Farran decide to put pen to paper on a one-year deal – the climate.

“I’m really looking forward to playing in a warm country,” he said.

“After five years playing in Denmark, I’d like to see that bright shiny thing in the sky!”

Brisbane Roar Head Coach said he was pleased with his final signing before the start of the season, believing Nakajima-Farran’s versatility would be a welcome addition to the playing squad’s arsenal.

“He’s a player who has played a decent level past few years in the Danish Superliga,” Postecoglou said.

“He played the first three games of the current season and scored a goal, so we know he’s coming to us in good shape.

“He’s looking to resurrect his international career by moving somewhere to play the kind of football he likes to play.

“Issey’s the right age, he can play in a number of positions in the front half and he’ll be a good fit for us.

“He can score goals and if you look at the way we play we need our midfielders to contribute.

“Last season Thomas Broich, Matt McKay and Mitch Nichols all contributed important goals.

“I think Issey will help us in that area. He gives us another attacking option that will help us with the way we play.

“With losing Matt McKay we had a hole to fill had to work hard to get someone of quality.

“As soon as I found out he was available I had no hesitation contacting him and I’m glad he’s agreed to join us.”
