Me too, Ranyen.

I'm starting a new job in Tuggerah business park in January, so I'm looking forward to heading over to Club Mariners during my breaks to check out the training form. :eek:verhead:

Proposed Sydney club wants Mark Schwarzer

Ray Gatt | December 02, 2008

SOCCEROOS goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer will be the first target for a proposed new team which plans to be based at Sydney's ANZ Stadium.

The consortium, which has a working title of Premier State FC, (Shit name) is due to meet Football Federation Australia officials tomorrow to outline its plans to bid for a spot in the 2010-2011 season.

FFA will expand the A-League to 10 teams next season with Townsville Fury and Gold Coast United coming in. While bids are expected from another western Sydney franchise, Tasmania, Canberra and Wollongong, chairman Frank Lowy made it clear last week he would like to see another team from Melbourne and one from western Sydney join the following season to make it a 12-team competition.

Premier State FC is understood to be working on agreements with ANZ Stadium and Football NSW, as well as strong grass-roots links to a number of western Sydney associations and state league clubs.

The club wants to play all its A-League fixtures at ANZ, but has plans for international club friendlies, pre-season tournaments and other boutique fixtures at Penrith's CUA Stadium, WIN Stadium in Wollongong, Parramatta Stadium and Campbelltown Stadium.

"It really will be the people's team," a bid spokesman said yesterday.

"We have held discussions with some of the stadia management, local associations and state league clubs and everybody is behind the project.

"The model, where sponsorship income is shared with the state league clubs and associations, and satellite academies are run in each association's geographical zone, will also see the clubs and associations share in revenue from player sales to overseas clubs."

Premier League FC believes Schwarzer would be an ideal fit for the club.

"You could not ask for a better front man or ambassador," the spokesman added.

* Ambitious Gold Coast United has continued its recruitment drive, signing Brazilians Robson and Jefferson.

ANZ Stadium should be kept as a Socceroo ground IMO, not used as a club ground. There are many great stadiums in the area that could be used, as named above, and they would also be cheaper to run.

And yeah...that name sucks.

West not necessarily next

FOOTBALL Federation Australia boss Ben Buckley has poured cold water on suggestions a western Sydney team is an A-League priority for 2010, contradicting earlier comments from FFA chairman Frank Lowy.

But A-League expansion plans took another twist as Buckley admitted more work needed to be done to secure the future of Wellington Phoenix after Asian Football Confederation president Mohammed bin Hammam turned a tighter screw on the New Zealand team's presence in the Australian competition.

Lowy recently revealed FFA was "working with a Sydney syndicate that may materialise in the next few months", a comment that caused quiet unease within A-League headquarters for its candour.

"The one team per city [concept] was very good up to now but I think we need to double up on that," Lowy said in what appeared to be support for a second Sydney team in 2010. "Sydney or Melbourne should be able to support two teams."

Buckley denied Lowy's comments endorsed a western Sydney A-League team above bids from Wollongong, Canberra or Tasmania.

"He certainly said that we would wish to have a team in west Sydney but that is taken in context that we have very strong proposals from Canberra, Wollongong, and we now have some interest from Tasmania as well," Buckley told The Sun-Herald.

"There is no doubt that, given the size of the population in the western part of Sydney and, given its heritage and football history and participation and interest levels, that there is a very, very, strong argument for a team in west Sydney.

"But it was not said that a western Sydney team is preferred for 2010."

Dump the Nix, bring in 3 teams ( Melb, W Syd & Wollongong).

Fairly simple solution and it keeps the Asian Federation happy.
