Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Kwassie copped a hammering off twat Harper & Cockerill tonite on Foxsports FC or whatever its called. Used video footage, freeze framing, showing how lazy he was up front in defence against Adelaide and should be doing better especially as smeltz was out and he had the chance to really cement his spot.

I saw that and thought it unfair, Kwas actually tried to close down and the other striker drifted behind him instead of closing down the other Adelaide CB.

Kwas did the job but the other twat had no idea.

Also liked the Nix defender who got skinned and then half heartedly put his hand up for an offside and didnt track back.

CLIVE Palmer's bulging cheque book is open for business and the pen is poised after Football Federation Australia yesterday confirmed that A-League newcomers Gold Coast United will have carte blanche to launch raids on contracted players from October 1.

Australia's most cashed-up club -- backed by $6 billion iron ore tycoon Palmer -- has also been been given permission to approach players from today, on the proviso their clubs do not object.

The relaxing of the rules applies to all 10 teams for the 2009-2010 season, with no special dispensation for United or fellow new arrivals North Queensland FC.

But with the salary cap set to rise to around $2.5 million for the club's maiden season, including service agreements and relocation concessions, Palmer and his head coach Miron Bleiberg will not waste time in targeting talent.

Last night Bleiberg welcomed FFA's decision to bring forward by three months the window of opportunity to talk to players, but refused to identify which high-profile A-League stars he is after for fear of alerting their current employers.

With top A-League talent like Socceroos Archie Thompson (Melbourne Victory), and Gold Coaster Jade North (Newcastle Jets) coming off contract this season, Bleiberg has already been busy behind the scenes sizing up potential targets.

Others about to become poachable are Adelaide United's Brazilian hit-man Diego, Wellington Phoenix striker Shane Smeltz, Central Coast Mariners forward Sasho Petrovski, Jets scoring machine Joel Griffiths and their keeper Ante Covic.

All clubs will be allowed to field five visa players, instead of four next season.

"The changes are good and we're happy to work within these new guidelines," said Bleiberg. "We'll need to act quickly to get the players we want."

Aware of the shrinking pool of Australian-based talent, FFA chief executive Ben Buckley heads to Europe in November to try to convince Aussies abroad -- young and old -- to come back Down Under.

Buckley, who estimates up to 100 new players will be needed over the next two years as the A-League expands, said: "Many of these players are in lower leagues, or reserve teams, or even youth teams, and we think they would be better off in the long run by playing in Australia."

He plans to target up to 60 of the estimated 120 players on foreign fields.

"It's the players who probably aren't going to play for the Socceroos, the ones who are not earning a great deal of money, who we want to target," he said. "I want to show them how far the A-League has come, where it's going, and what opportunities there might be."

With plans of expansion, I would like to see and eventual 14 team competition, with two teams being added every second or third year

I don't see a future in Wellington, and they aren't even in our confederation (Asia v Oceania), so I think they should be given the flick

1. Central Coast
2. Newcaslte
3. Sydney FC
4. Melbourne Victory
5. Queensland Roar (name change to 'Brisbane')
6. Adelaide United
7. Perth Glory (or their new incarnation)
------
8. Gold Coast
9. North Queensland
------
10. Wollongong (can tap into southern sydney (Cronulla), like the Mariners have to Northern Sydeny)
11. Tasmania (beat the AFL while they stuff around)
12. Canberra (got the facility, support for Raiders/Brumbies could help)
------
13. Western Sydney (maybe at Parramatta)
14. 2nd Melbourne team (Possibly Regional - Geelong?)

Feel free to disagree

A Melbourne consortium has been given exlusive rights to bid for inclusion for 2010-11. It's no rumour.

I would think if they meet the criteria they'll be in. The 12th spot will may be Woollongong or Western Sydney.

Surely you would go after the W Sydney market over Wollongong?  Bling hate the very thought of it too which is nice.

NZ are in because they deliver a potential 3m pay tv viewers and advertisers. Personally, I dont think we should have a NZ side as we owe them nothing but I suspect the $$ will win

This afternoon, TWG will be doing a story on the Canberra bid for inclusion into the A-League. It will be interesting to see what they're upto. Personally I'd like to see other bids get up before Canberra.

NZ could sit on the bottom of the table for 10 seasons, as long as the cash continues to flow in then they will remain in the comp.
