Before you kids get all carried away with you racism and everything, just bear in mind that there is a real chance we will have to entertain these fans within the year in our own stadium.

Its 1 thing to act hard, its another to back it up when presented with a sticky situation.

You try telling 50+ angry men from West Sydney "I was just being sarcastic, it was a joke, seriously"

Im not trying to be the fun police, far from it, but racism is a whole different ball game.

By the way being racist is about physical characteristics .... that was ethnic hatred!  :ashamed:

Anyway back to the GC officials, I like their positivity.Would we like them to say " oh well just turn up and see how we go"?
Not all clubs like the slowly but surely approach, totally different market up there for them so they need to be shown as having a positive outlook.Depending on whos off contract when they start to assemble a squad but they will not have a shit squad, hang on if they sign Spencer I will stand corrected.

I just watched the GC video on Fox Sports.

It's obvious he knows nothing about Football. It's a lot easier to make money out of mining at the moment than winning the HAL. I think he's in for a rude shock, the cocky bastard.

Lesson number one, it's called Football, not soccer. Lesson number two, use you're instep not a toe poke. Lesson number three, private jets will not win you league.

Teams to hate in order, scum, flying circus and GC.

The Roman plan

Pour in heaps of $$
Buy any good player you can get your hands on
Hire a crap coach
Win f**k all
Sack coach
Repeat

Have to confess, my utter loathing of Sydney Hakoah still beats the scum  - will have to wait and see about GC

Paradise lost on locals in Surfers
June 11, 2008

SURFERS PARADISE is a dowdy "dump" that's full of night-time drunks, according to the local chamber of commerce, which wants a clean-up to lure tourists back to the supposedly glitzy strip.

Tony White, president of the Gold Coast North Chamber of Commerce, made the comments to his local newspaper yesterday, saying he avoids Surfers "like the plague", and so do his friends.

He tempered his language when he spoke to the Herald yesterday, but not his meaning.

"Surfers Paradise is just becoming a high-rise mecca," he said. "It's definitely not what it used to be.

"When the nightlife started coming on, it filled up with youngsters and they started taking over," he said. "People are scared to go to some of these areas."

More was needed to attract tourists, he said, following a 4 per cent fall in tourists and those visiting friends and family going to the Gold Coast last year, although business travellers increased.

A Gold Coast councillor, Susie Douglas, conceded there was a problem with people, already drunk, going to Surfers Paradise for its nightclubs, but said that was being managed by a liquor accord.

She denied Surfers Paradise was a dump, saying more people and quality shops were chosing to move in, while the $2 and T-shirt shops were moving out. Plus, the council plans to establish the "world's best dining precinct" in a nearby street.

The Queensland Premier, Anna Bligh, diplomatically said: "People look for different things when they go on holiday. Some people love the nightlife of Surfers Paradise. Other people, like me, look for a much quieter hideaway.

"I think it's important in our tourism market that we have something that covers the full breadth," she said.

The comments come as the Queensland tourism industry deals with the fallout from the Qantas decision to cut flights to the Gold Coast, Whitsundays and Cairns, the effect of which Ms Bligh said was of national significance.

Her Government has announced a $4 million rescue package and wants help with the project from the Commonwealth.

The comments about persons from Western Sydney were out of line and totally uncalled-for. The apology is warranted, but the comments were downright stupid and will achieve nothing. They are words of a bogan, pure and simple.

Those of us that are a bit older and look out for younger Marinators before, during and after games will always make the effort to help out those in need; make these remarks in open company, you'll need more than my moderate first aid skills.

As for the Manchester United plane remark, I would hope that this is meant in jest. If not, this remark cuts way too close to the bone. Now I know how Leeds fans felt a few years ago when I made a callous joke about them; lesson learnt.

If there is EVER a PNG team, do not even THINK of going to Moresby for an away trip; it, along with Johannesburg, is the most dangerous city in the world. Ditto Honiara. Vila or Suva, maybe.
