Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

2021/22 season

it’s an observation that the APL has been very underwhelming for the league. I don’t think that fact is undeniable.
I think there’s things they should have done better and a hell of a lot outside their control. They’ve picked up the reigns after years of FA neglect and walked face first into a covid shitstorm that saw Foxtel terminate their existing deal and lowball an offer that would kill the league. That they’ve picked up a new broadcast partner, significant investment and shored up the financials in the short term should not be understated.

On the broadcaster maybe Stan was the better bet in hindsight but then people would be complaining about 20+ dollars per month for Stan + their sport add on. I can’t help but wonder if US paramount was demo’d and the APL were somewhat hoodwinked over what the service would look here like in season 1. But that’s really all the options they had - Optus wasn’t bidding on any substantial capacity and Foxtel/Kayo were not viable.

The APL was able to buy time, how they use that is yet to be seen but if we can get clubs back out into schools and the community, if we can get some continuity in our seasons then I think they can rebuild.

Probably dumb suggestions but I think a few simple steps could help locally.
Game scheduling needs to built around families with kids being able to get to the games. Not finish at 10pm and then have to make your way home.
I’d love to see the Mariners NPL 23’s play their home games as the curtain raiser where the seasons overlap. Fans get to see the progression of players into the top squad. The U’20’s could still play at Pluim that weekend.
Do registered juniors still get free admission?
Allow all the kids on the pitch at half time to kick a ball around. Just keep them away from the goals. They’re not going to damage the pitch (?)
Get the boys into schools

According to the good bloke running APL into the ground.
(Last club slumping too hmmmm)
The P+ platform we have is the povvo pack they rushed out. In US they have all the bells and whistles we expect.
Question
Did he know it was shit, accept it and then not try to front run it?
Didn't he bother to check?

Good question but Turbo may have answered it. No other option was available. P- have been very quiet on any upgrades. Can’t blame them if no one is watching why throw more money down the black hole.

Chicken and the egg though. Why should people pay for something you're not investing in? Its encumbent on p- and APL to make the product better. Not for fans to tune into a shit product.

Agree and how many were turned off by how bad it was at the start, not that it’s much better now.

I'm sure most others also got the "We want to hear from you" email survey request on how we watch and how to improve the experience. Great timing. I'll treat myself to a rant later when I click the link.

I just completed it, gave a great opportunity to tell P+ how awful their coverage is and what they must do to improve, I’m sure a lot of you will also enjoy it, Hopefully they actually take into account everyone’s responses and does something about it, because it’s awful in its current state

So we really think they don't know? If that's the case they don't monitor their socials.
This is clever "we asked, you told us and heres the good version"

I think they're well aware of the limitations but social media isnt always a great measure of perception, disproportionately noisy, sometimes wrong or deliberately disingenuous individuals can dilute valid feedback. If you listen to social media blindly South Melbourne is the best club in the world.

By aggregating a (hopefully) large number of responses with negative scores maybe it'll hit home a bit more. There was also some other good stuff in the survey about other content so that might help them work out where to allocate funds when looking for more football content.

From a club point of view I am happy with what they are asking in the survey. Its obvious there are issues and they are, hopefully, smart enough to know that. This doing the survey is a way of confirming what they are going to add in is "what the people want".

I can't comment in regards to the membership side and whether Paramount will be included in that again as I believe that is still being determined but from the point of view of watching paramount, if they bring in what the survey suggests they will bring in, it will be at the level it should be.

Every club was sent this survey to send out to a couple different sections of their membership database. This should provide enough data and information back to APL and Paramount+ for them to act on it. I don't see any of the feedback, it goes straight to APL. So be as honest with your feedback and criticism as you can to make sure we get the broadcast we deserve.

and it’s not just that. I know multiple fans - foundation members who are elderly and if it’s not on their foxtel and their TV’s either don’t have the app or aren’t smart TV’s. They’ve actually gone without watching ALL THE GAMES for the first time since V1.

It wasn’t just a change of broadcaster it was a major change in the delivery system. Free access initially to P+ is great. But even accessing emails and signing up to a site is a technological leap for many elderly people. I’m a realist. I know you can only help people so much and times change, but could they have dove more? Absolutely.

I don’t know what percentage of audience that elderly demographic accounts for. But for a league struggling for views, even 2% of your audience directly losing connection is a big mistake.

I believe Paramount is trying to get their app onto Foxtel boxes so that would be a start.
They are on the fetch box and it works well for anything other than the shitty quality of their frame rates on football.

Family experience tells me that elderly people happily embrace technology provided someone walks them through the process.

The frame rate is 50 fps for live matches and has been since round 4. But its only 25 fps for replays, mini and highlights which really sucks on larger screens.

Unfortunately not everyone has someone that can do that so easily or respond when it falls over. I got my old man a chromecast with google tv and got him running on my p+ sub but if I didnt he would only be watching the FTA games. Low awareness around the league plus tech hurdles is a bad combo.
