ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Is the student discount only for students in New South Wales? Apologies for dumbo here.

According to the FAQ page (under Concession Prices):
Secondary and tertiary students with valid ID will be eligible to purchase selected Memberships at a student price.

I assume that so long as your ID is valid it wouldn't matter what state it was issued in - although @Pokes might be able to provide a more definitive answer...

Cheers for the response. I only ask because certain places in Western Australia didn't recognise my Victorian student card.

At the very least members should have be able to access legit streams of our away games (including those at North Sydney) through a link on the club website. Some sort of member code would be needed.I don't care if the game is delayed if that is what Foxtel requires.
It won't happen. Fox Sports owns the streaming rights for the A-League in Australia, and that includes on-demand. They're not going to provide free on-demand access to clubs.

Some pre-season games were streamed last season so it isn't impossible
Those streams were organised and paid for by the clubs, and have nothing to do with Fox Sports or the FFA.

and given the competition that Fox is now under from Netflix etc I would be surprised if they are unable to consider a proposition like this
A proposition like this would potentially result in a loss of subscribers, which is why they would never allow it.

. i think it is an interesting idea ... but you couldn't expect it to be provided for nothing (a slight add-on to your membership perhaps)

. we have never had fox ... and it is a pretty big commitment considering we would really only be after 13 or so away games a year

. somewhat ironically we probably spend more frequenting a 'local establishment' to watch the away games. we have always been wary of becoming a slave to the tv ... just to get good 'value for money'

. to dismiss the idea because fox might lose subscribers suggests that people are subscribing just for the a-league. the truth (in our little micro-society) may be closer to people avoiding subscribing because they only want the a-league

. i suspect people often choose one or the other - membership or foxtel ... so why not combine the two - you never know, it might suit all parties

I get your point and any idea is a good idea, but this won't happen. What does fox get out it if they let that happen? Fox want you to not just follow your team but the league and let's face it fox pays for the league. All main sports are now made for tv. The rugby league and afl survive through tv as do we and if they don't get what they are paying big money for they will run and the leagues die.

What you really want is for the ffa to either maintain the streaming rights for the Internet or sell it serperately.

The NBA has a subscription service called league pass where you can buy a season pass monthly pass or single games world wide. The problem for the ffa is would they recoupe the money to run this service or be better off taking a little more money from fox so fox can protect its investment. If Internet streaming was possible fox would pay less for the games.

Also your prospective purchase could be deamed a moral one.
Pay CCM enjoy a family activity out of the house and away from tv or take the better financial option have the family stay home and watch Syd fc vs wsw but your decision could cost you a local home team to support as CCM won't get your money they might fold because everyone bought fox but then the ffa and fox get rid of CCM because they don't rate on tv and your kids kids will look at you and go stop telling stories, you never went to watch football where those high rises are.

I'm lucky enough to afford both and get great enjoyment from both so there is no right or wrong answer just what will give you more joy but there maybe hidden consequences beyond dollar value.

Also don't forget things like the announcer cannon etc are part of your membership that ad to your experience. Also the feeling at the ground is completely different but tv you can just press rewind if u miss a goal.

Good luck with your choice.

. from me they would get the nominal fee ... and the potential to up-sell directly - so fox would actually get more from me than they currently do

Hi Big Al,
I've already made the choice of membership again. I think this is season 5 for us. I guess fox gets to sell a worthless obsolete product (a delayed telecast) for which there is no current market, to people who may otherwise pirate stream the game live.
Perhaps the FFA could arrange this in conjunction with Fox under its existing agreement-I don't know. It would be preferable as Fox already has the footage, commentary (and adverts to show a new audience).
Don't get me wrong-I DO support the club and wanting to watch more of our games (preferably in person but otherwise on TV/computer) is a reflection of that support, but as members I think it reasonable that we seek access to all of our team's games in the season (not just home games). We are already losing some of these to North Sydney (another whole thread there).
There is no question that membership is an important financial support for the club and I am not suggesting that anyone not renew. I DO think that the few trinkets given with membership is inadequate and that the financial security (or otherwise) of the club has much more to do with it's administration and decision making (enough for several threats here).
I'd like to see the club or league investigate it as an option as I think it can make membership more attractive (non members not having access to the link).

Good stuff, hope you didn't think I was having a go at you was trying to be subjective to both sides of the arguement

I see your idea and bikinis point but I'm not sure there is a big enough market to cover the costs but there is potential.

I also wonder how many casual mariner fans are not converted to member because they loose interest because it's not in there face by being on free to air tv.

The league could really do with that exposure to take it to the next limit however the money to sustain the league from fox must come first.

The fox production of the a league is really quite good. You have to wonder if fox would ever go to selling individual channels but I doubt the Aussie market is big enough.

Also why not the same you can get all games on abc digital radio (download the app)or Mariners games on the local station ( can't remember its name or channel)

$50 a month for Sport- 9 channels & Entertainment- 47 channels (used to be called Basic which is compulsory).

The HAL runs for 27 weeks, add another 3 for the finals = 30 weeks. Let's say 7.5 mnths approx.

So $375 to watch every single A-League game LIVE! That's $12.50 a week. No lock-in contract leave when you want.

Plus the bonus of every other sporting event Foxtel airs inc EPL, FA Cup, La Liga, and so on. Plus all the other TV- Disney, Discovery, Nat Geo etc for the rest of the family.

If you dont like watching the "ads" pay an extra $10 a month fo the IQ2 Box (my installer said the IQ3 is 'buggy' as hell) fastforward every ad to your hearts content. I NEVER watch Foxtel Live, always off the "Planner" (the IQ's HardDrive)

You can watch an A-League game every night of the week if your missus lets ya :p Otherwise night-owl them.

And NO, I don't work for Foxtel. Just think IT IS good value even just for the A-League and nothing more, but you Do get MORE!

I'd say in the near future the streaming rights of different sports will be worth just as much as the tv deal if not more and just not a tiny add on to whoever buys the actual rights. The FFA really needs to make use of the streaming rights and shop them out to all of the different companies currently coming into the Australian streaming marketplace. Foxtel barely care about the streaming rights considering nearly none of their subscribers have access to it and I hardly doubt they contributed much to the deal to have them.

I got Fox on the strength of it having the A-League, and we would probably keep it even without. We pay $84/mth for our package, which has IQ2, HD, sport and a bunch of entertainment channels and docos (the missus-to-be loves natural history docos, and I don't mind them either).

We used to go to the pub to watch games, but frankly in season we spent more money doing that (couple of round of beers + a meal).

If paying online, make sure you keep your email receipt. I renewed my membership on 22 May and got a call today asking if I wanted to renew. Took the Club a while to find my payment. There are apparently some teething problems with their new payment system. All good in the end though, and they were very professional and apologetic. Can't wait for the season to start!
