Suspect that money is so tight he will not be replaced. Hope the transfer pays a months wages with the following month's bill reduced.

Bernie with McBreen, back up Hearfield, Kwassie when fit, and Duke pulled up from juniors.

Hope for a good crowd tomorrow night so the club gets some of the gate.

I'm really sad to see him leave. You can't deny the bloke the opportunity though, and a door opens for Mitchell Duke surely.

January approaches and with it the transfer window - any thoughts as to potential changes in our team? Last year Brisbane lost De Vere, a couple of years ago we lost Jedi. Do we think we are vulnerable to lose someone or are we likley to sign someone?
This is why I asked the question; not who you would want to leave but who would leave unexpectedly. Could there be more?

If/when we beat the Gold Coast the timing would be perfect for Porter to make his move to them.(as predicted 6 months ago)

Matty Simon will be missed no matter who we replace him with. A wholehearted player who got the best out of his limited ability - you can't ask for more of a player in your team. Never a natural goalscorer he still did well enough to score regularly and to be an ever present danger to the opposition. Has improved again this year and his hold up play has been outstanding. Really hope he does well in Korea and hope too that the Mariners got decent much needed coin. If Duke isn't promoted, with Matty and Baird now gone, it would seem unlikely he ever will be.

Mariners sell Simon to Chunnam Dragons

Central Coast Mariners striker Matt Simon will leave the A-League leader next week after landing a South Korean club deal.

The 25-year-old has signed a three-year contract with K-League club Chunnam Dragons, which should help ease some of the financial pressures on the Mariners.

Although saddened to be leaving his hometown club, Simon, an East Gosford Rams junior, said the opportunity to play abroad combined with the Dragons offer was simply too good to refuse.

“It has always been a goal of mine to play overseas and this is an opportunity for me to take the next step in my career,” Simon said.

“I’ve had a lot of great memories at the Mariners. I’ve loved playing for the club and I’ve loved playing for the fans.”

“Since the start of the A-League the fans have been great to me and I can’t thank them enough. Hopefully I’ll get to play for them again when my time overseas comes to an end.”

Mariners chairman Peter Turnbull said his club could not match the lucrative offer for Simon, understood to be around $400,000 a season.

"I don't think any A-League club is able to, under the current financial model, compete with the big overseas clubs," Turnbull said.

"This is an opportunity for Matt to set himself up for life with a three-year contract and a salary to match that opportunity."

Simon confirmed the deal was good for the club's ailing coffers.

"There Was a fee paid, it wasn’t a free transfer, so they did get some compensation so I think that helped them make their decision," he told Fox Sports News.

Central Coast coach Graham Arnold believes Simon will one day return to the Gosford-based club.

"I think you will see him back here one day," Arnold said.

"He came here as an amateur and has spent the last five years performing in the first team exceptionally well.

"I had the privilege of working with Matt in the Olympic team. Not only is he, in my view, a hell of a good footballer, he's a great guy, he's a great club man and I don't think there's anyone that deserves this more than Matty Simon."

The 25-year-old had a whirlwind 48 hours from when the offer was made to securing a release from the Mariners.

"It is a little bit blurry at the moment ... I fly out on Thursday," he said.

"I'm really grateful to the club, and how easy they made it for me in my decision to go.

"It was too good (an offer) to turn down. The only thing I'm sad about is leaving the boys at this great time."

Arnold is looking to get full value from Simon in his final two A-League games prior to departure.

"Matty has guaranteed me six points," Arnold quipped.

The Mariners are planning a farewell for Simon at the Melbourne Victory match on Wednesday, but it's this weekend's clash with Gold Coast United that Arnold has in his sights.

"I think they are one of the most unpredictable teams to play," he said.

"They are a difficult team to beat and have become very dangerous on the counter."

Arnold will be without defensive midfielder Rostyn Griffiths, who missed last week's Perth match with a hip injury.

"(John) Hutch (Hutchinson) did a fantastic job last week against Perth Glory," Arnold said.

Was told this on the way out of my mates house by his missis like it was no biggy.... I'm gutted.
We finally get a red hot strike partnership.....still Matty is a top bloke and has definately done his bit.
Hope we get a decent replacement because we have no one in the squad that is a suitable replacement

Before Adelaide Phoenix game tonight there was a segment for 'new years resolutions' and what each player wanted from 2012 ..dutchy was on there ...he said he was hoping for a new contract with mariners as he feels fitter and healthier than ever ...would be truly amazing news if he resigns

When I first saw Matt Simon play with the "Coasties" then the Mariner`s,I must admit I wasn`t a fan.
Over the ensuing years I have watched him mature into an outstanding footballer. Not the classic type of footballer with the silky skills but an absolute grafter that works hard all game & never drops below 100% effort.

His athleticism, skills & general play have improved every year to the point that he brings the crowd to their feet when he gets the ball.

Matt has often been described as "the heart of the Mariners" but to me he is more than that.He represents everything that football is about.

A young lad doesn`t have to be the most talented player.
To be dedicated, honest, loyal & hardworking will bring you the respect of the fans.

To show the fans your appreciation of their support in such a humble way will endure you in their hearts.

We will miss Matt Simon, but his legacy to the Mariners & the people of the "Coast" is that success can be acheived right here at "Bluetongue".

Many players have left us for "greener pastures" & have not progressed(Jedi being the exception),but i`m confident Matt will continue to grow, such is the nature of the man.

Tom Rogic comes back to the Mariners http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/soccer/nike-academy-competition-winner-tom-rogic-is-heading-to-the-mariners/story-e6frey4r-1226234422075 I keep saying Arnie should sign Aaron Mooy but maybe this is the kid to replace Mustafa. It is a good signing; this kid followed the Mariners online when he was away with Nika and the mariners played in the GF.

Interesting. Annie certainly has a track record in getting the most out of youth. I notice he is a futsal player. It will be interesting to see how he goes. I'm not sure how much game time he will get this season with Musty and McBreen playing well in the minefield.
