there's heaps of snow about (ally and i were throwing it at one another in the englischer garten), so that doesn't surprise me that much. it's pretty cold too, below zero at the moment.

should be great fun though, with a huge derby feel about it. can't wait! ;D

like little kids ;D

I sent you an mail with some info about the match tomorrow and what you are allowed to bring into the stadium.

We played 1:1 in front of 57thousand spectators. Among the spectators were at least 25thousand away fans.
We lead 1:0 and Munich scored the 1:1 after a free kick in the 2nd half.

The 1st half was quite good fom us but the 2nd was bad.

Vidosic was on the bench.

Now we are having a winter break until Jan 30 when we are playing Augsburg away.

We love travelling to away matches, especially when they are close to Nuremberg. :)

57,000 to a second division match is simply staggering Happy.

You must find it unbelievable we get a measly 10,000 to our national league games.

This is the spectators record for that leg in Bundesliga 2. Having 57,000 spectators is the exemption. On Monday we just had 24,000 spectators at home.

It is some kind of tradition that a lot of Nuremberg supporters are travelling to the 1st and the last away match of each leg, especially when they are not far away.

It's good that you are having 10,000 people at your matches - that's more than our neighbour club Fuerth (also Bundesliga 2) has - they are normally having around 5,000 at their home matches...

A short summary of the year 2008:

The year 2008 is probably a year which no Nuremberg supporter will ever forget.
After 2 matches in the 2nd leg after the winter break the coach Hans Meyer was fired and his successor had the really difficult task to start again Lisbon away, Bremen away and Lisbon at home.

The matches against Lisbon have been the highlights that year. We really had a good chance to proceed one round further but failed in the last 10mins of the 2nd match against Lisbon.

Although these matches with the real good performances should have had some positive impacts on the players the opposite happened. We did even worse in the league than before.
The logical result was that we relegated for the 7th time in Nurembergs history. But that one was one relegation which could have been avoided by signing the right players during the winter break and releasing the coach earlier.

The most important signing for the year 2008 was in the summer break when our goalkeeper Raphael Schaefer came back to Nuremberg. (We wouldnt have relegated with him last season)

Same story, different point of time: The coach Thomas von Heesen was fired after 2 rounds as well.. The fans didnt like Thomas von Heesen since day one and I was very happy when I read that he was released in August. His assistant coach was promoted to becoming the Head Coach. But not that much has changed for the first matches. I have never seen such a bad team during my life as a supporter. I was totally shocked when I watched the match against Freiburg in October after nearly 7 weeks without a Nuremberg match.

The change came at the match against Ingolstadt in late November when we ran out of players due to injuries and suspensions. The coach Michael Oenning was forced to get the younger and inexperienced players on the pitch and it worked.

Weve done a lot better since that match. Unfortunately for us, the winter break is coming now.

We all hope that our aim - the promotion - will be achievable next year as it sucks playing in the 2nd league.

the FCN fans were simply fantastic yesterday. travelled nearly 200km and filled the ground up with red and black and noise too. went straight over the top of the home fans and made it just like a nrnberg home game.

probably should've been up 3-0 in the first half hour, were simply picking the mncheners apart at will. only got the one though and were made to pay later.

in the second half FCN lost control of the middle of the park, and were peppered with crosses as well. the TSV goal came from a cross and they could've score several more. der club are missing several central defenders (including one aussie who's gone and torn his syndesmosis - 3 or 4 months out for him...) and it showed.

awesome day out, top stadium, thanks again to sandra!!! have to say that mnchen as a city is nowhere near as nice or pretty as nrnberg, and der club's fans are sensational. hope they get some defenders back over the break and they'll make a big charge for the promotion spots.

How does the standard of German 2nd Div compare with a-league ?

how did you like the AllianzArena? How were your seats?
Unfortunately, I couldn't come over to you as there were fences around the official away area so we couldn't move around.

We have been in the area where the home fans of Bayern Munich normally are...

german second division is probably better - better touch and better finishing basically. a-league players are probably faster and maybe fitter, but that's a matter of style more than anything. individual skills are better in germany.

that said, on monday night i was noting to sandra how matt simon would likely do very well because he's big and mobile and could get himself into dangerous positions and finish well. that night isaac boakye was having a good night but couldn't score. on sunday he scored and could've had more, but he's a different sort of striker - more flair and less graft.

btw - seats were super, will whack some photos up soon. we were almost on halfway on the third tier on the eastern side. we were surrounded by nurnbergers and a couple of lonely looking sechszigers. was great. when 'stand up for nurnberg' went up most of the area stood. ;D

Sounds like a good night.Interesting that you think the a-league players are maybe faster as I always considered the game here to be pretty slow paced.I watch a fair bit of the Bundesliga 1 on Setanta and the pace is pretty fast.Nothing like the slow pace of the Italian and Spanish leagues for example.

If I had to choose one country to go and watch a game not involving any of my own teams you're in it now!!

We have to expect some changes in our squad with the upcoming January transfer window.

Midfielder Marco Engelhardt will leave to Karlsruhe (Bundesliga 1) where he has played some years before. This transfer is fixed.
This is a quite good transer as he wasn't that popular in Nuremberg anymore.

Midfielders Ioannis Masmanidis and Mario Breska who both joined Nuremberg just 6 months ago are about to leave to Cyprus. These transfers aren't fixed so far.

Striker Angelos Charisteas should leave as well but there are no clubs interested in him so far. He should leave Nuremberg as he wasn't doing well for a really long time now. Hopefully he is leaving as he is very expensive and doesn't contriute anything to the club.

Midfielder Dario Vidosic and striker Chhunly Pagenburg should leave on loan to get more match time than they would get here in Nuremberg.
Don't know if these transfers will happen.

Some injured players will come back within the next few weeks:
Defender Aleksandar Mitreski will start training with the team at the training camp in Turkey after he missed since September due to a spinal disk surgery.

Defender Andreas Wolf will need more time and is about to come back in early February after his cruciate ligament rupture.

Defender Matthew Spiranovic will need time until March after the rupture of his syndesmosis in November.

We already have signed some new players:

Two 19 years old players join us from Bayer Leverkusen on a 1,5 year loan basis. One is a right defender and the other a midfielder. Both became European Champions of the under 19s this year.

Another under 19s European Champion is coming either in January or in July. He agreed with Nuremberg about a contract but it is now up to the managers to sort out if he can come in January.

Interesting times are coming ahead until Jan 31st when the transfer window is closing and Jan 30th when we start in the 2nd leg at Augsburg away.

I don't know. Haven't heard any rumours about an Italian club.
He was just connected to clubs in Greek and Cyprus so far.

But I found the Italian article and will get it translated tonight.

The Italian article says that Bologna is interested in signing Charisteas. A German paper writes about the same issue today.

But he is just the 2nd choice for Bologna as they will just sign him if they can't get their 1st choice this winter...
