I see you and raise you. Though not A-league, in early 2000 the Olympic inspection committee was checking Bruce Stadium, Canberra, which was to host various football matches.

Our local government chose the Chief Minister's brother's company, I'm sure the Chief Minister had no influence in this choice ?, to relay the turf which he duly stuffed up and it died. Their solution, they assumed the committee would just look at the pitch from afar so they laid sand over the dead patches and painted it green.

Very embarrassing when the committee took to the pitch to do a close up inspection.
