Yorke close to signing with the Mariners

makes perfect sense to me too.

By the way, congrats on your win tonight Mick.

And as for no A-league player being fit enough... I think you're right striker. Ollie Bozanic said it took him a while to adjust to the speed and intensity of everything over there.

congrats on your win as well

i dispute the fitness thing - mile and hutch do 18 kilometres in a game while beckham only does 14

bozanic only ever played pre-season a-league

not doubting the amount in which some players run, but i think the fitness issue is more about the speed of the game here. can you imagine how the a-leaguers would go if games were played at the same intensity as in europe. both teams would be fatigued at the 25min mark.

i dont like fulham personally and I dont really give a crap wat their fans say!
But I would like to highligh the difference bwteen EPL and A-league!!!

either way a player's attitude is the same no matter wher he plays and as the fulham fans on here are pointing out elrich doesn't have a good track record...so it doesnt matter if he has talent that exceeds the current standard of the a-league cos when it comes down to it if a player has poor attitude it affects the club as a whole and can cause squad disruptions when the player doesnt perfrom to the level he should yet comes across as arogant etc

only time will tell if elrich can change his ways under lawrie and become a more team based player and play to his full potential

i disagree, Ahmad has been a socceroo previously and he has the potential to be one again. he has just been plagued by bad career choices and injuries. But Lawrie should be able to reverse his form slump. Ive said it before and ill say it again, both Ahmad and Caceres cant be too far off a league socceroo caps if their careers and time with the mariners both go according to plan

That's what I believe. Ahmad has talent, but not form, Lawrie can and will help with that.
And he's not too badly slumped in any case, also he seems to have a good attitude and strong clear goals which are important. He knows how he wants to play, and why he wants to play. And i think he can play... So I'm quite positive towards how he may contribute next season.

bozanic only ever played pre-season a-league

Sorry, to clear that up - when he said it, he wasn't comparing it to A-league fitness... just his fitness at the time from regular training with Mariners, the various Australian teams he was playing quite regularly for and his own training.

I can't believe some of the doubting posts about AE.

I couldn't care less about Fullham, Korea etc He's not the first player to fail overseas and we don't know 0.01% of the reasons why. So who cares about what happened there? It's history.

He was very good at Power and we have no reason to believe he won't get back to that form again. Lawrie obviously likes him a lot and knows the boy very well, so that's more than good enough for me.

Forget our suppossed "no dickhead policy". Of course players need to fit in with our community and the genaeral philosophy of the club. As I said above, Lawrie knows him very well as a person and a player. The club has learnt from buying the McMasters and the Tomasivic's of the Footballing world.

I have no doubt, very, very xareful selection of players is done and I'm sure he will be excellent for us. I can't wait to see him down the right flank delivering a delicious ball to Sash and Nik (please!) for a simple headed goal.

I would not worry about the no dick head policy, off the park he is a very family guy, has never been a drama.

Heff to came back wiser from his overseas experience.

He wants to get back into the Socceroos, hopefully he will train his backside off.

I am sure he will train hard. Lawrie knows him, and would not have brought him in is he thought he wouldnt work hard. I doubt clarky would accept anything less than that in physical training anyway

Im pretty sure the injuries he suffered and playing few games accounts for a bit more then 0.01% ;)

all these rumors seem to have died in the ass

truth is Yorke was never close to signing like the reports suggested, but we did make contact with him............I guess the door isn't completely shut yet but Lawrie knows what/who he wants.

Personally I'm happy to have signed 2 specialist wingers who have the potential to be the best in the league on their given day, we need another striker and would love an attacking midfielder now.

I spoke with Ahmad after the Wellington game (R21) and he was well aware that he had a poor season and he's definitely keen to make amends.

To be honest, I don't understand everyone's doubt with Elrich. I think there was more to worry about with Sash and he turned out to be fine as well as our top goal scorer.

Whilst I have absolute faith in Lawrie and am looking forward to being made to look stupid as AE starts V4 fully fit and firing, the doubts are probably around:-

1) Perceived lack of work ethic
2) Superstar attitude

Is he another MacMaster?? A player with initial potential who is unable to deliver??

I so hope he isnt, but doubts will remain until he actually plays for us. If he is wearing the shirt, he has my support and loyalty (obviously) and I will be the 1st to hold my hands up if wrong.
