One week too late for Danny.

CENTRAL Coast Mariners goalkeeper Jess Vanstrattan has suffered a suspected ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligament in his left knee and is out for the next year, the club revealed today.

Vanstrattan injured his left leg in freakish circumstances, as he routinely kicked during a drill at Mariners training this morning, and the former Juventus and Gold Coast United goalkeeper is awaiting the results of further tests before plotting his recovery with club medical staff.

“It’s a huge blow for Jess and the club,” said Mariners Head Coach Graham Arnold. “He has fitted in really well with the group since he arrived and was in great form.

"But when one door closes another one opens, and I have every confidence in Mathew Ryan, who will come in to the squad tomorrow.”

Ryan, an 18-year-old highly rated by Mariners goalkeeping coach John Crawley, has been in top form for his NSW Premier League club Blacktown City after a debut season in the National Youth League.

“He’s a great young kid, has done really well in training and in the trial matches that he has featured in and I’m sure he’ll do well,” Arnold said.

“He’ll do a great job tomorrow and looking further down the track we’ll be looking to get someone in as an injury replacement to keep things competitive, but obviously first and foremost we wish Jess a speedy recovery, and hopefully he’s back on the field as soon as possible.”

Wellington Phoenix have ruled out any chance of a return to the Mariners for former 'keeper Danny Vukovic.

He was left clubless after a transfer to Turkey was aborted when his new club Konyaspor axed him unexpectedly.

He has since signed a contract with Pheonix until the end of the season, and the club confirmed they had filed all paperwork on the deal, ruling out any chance of a return to Bluetongue this year.

my mum just asked me...why can't danny pull a turkey on Wellington Phoenix?
:p

mind you
Crawley seems to rate this kid higher than Danny...
And if my memory serves me correct, Danny only got his chance because of a freak injury to Crawley- and he never looked back

Heres hoping

NB: Danny was 2 years older

Any descent keepers we can get for an injury replacement?
Do injury replacements come under the salary cap?
We might of been one week late for Danny but Fulham havent sold Schwarzer yet

CCM website says its only a suspected ACL rupture... although from personal experiance if its suspected it usually is gone :(
Should only be out for 6 months though, unless there is some major cartilage damage as well.

f**k, our keepers ain't having much luck this year. Redders leaves because he's promised first team football at Roar and then they sign Theo, Danny leaves and has all his problems, now JVS has injured himself! Big chance for Ryan, if he's as good as what Crawley says he'll be fine, but it will take time and he'll make mistakes but will learn from them. I remember season 1 when Crawley was out due to his back/hip and everyone was worried about Danny stepping up when he was 19, that worked out ok.

We'll need a replacement though, perhaps a Redders loan move? Nash as cover? Not a great situation but to look at the positives at least it's happened early in the year to give us the opportunity to find a suitable replacement. GA needs to act quickly, f**k I wish it happened last week so we could have got Danny.

Damn it!!!!

We've still got a few visa spots left so maybe Sheffield United can loan us a keeper? I'm sure they've got a few on their books.

What about Maltese international Justin Haber who is warming the bench for our partner club Ferencvárosi TC? I'm sure Hutch could convince him.

I saidn we should sign Vuko!

I'm emailing Phoenix in an attempt to get them to terminate Danny's contract. To try n push the Phoenix i reccommend everyone to email the Phoenix:

It'd be interesting to know where Danny would rather be given this development, especially in the presence of Paston who Danny himself referred to as a "New Zealand national treasure" and Herbert has said "the No 1 shirt is (Paston's) to lose". So he could see a lot of bench time.

JVS's release from the 2nd year of his GCU contract (despite being the incumbent keeper and a high profile signing initially) was on "where I'd rather be" grounds.

Still, it looks like we've got it sorted and I'm wishing for an absolute blinder by Matthew Ryan tomorrow night.
