Usain Bolt!

And he wasn’t good enough either.

Has no positional sence at all.

He is a park player. We can all shoot but crossing dribbling etc he just doesn’t have it.

His size certainly could work for him but would need to be a striker not a winger/striker. Just need the ball higher as he has a massive vertical leap

I was one of Api’s Biggest critics, but he had a place on the bench, running at tired defended in the last 10 minutes of a game.

Bolt has the potential to do the same, but fill stadiums, bring sponsors etc at the same time.

I thought before tonight he may be able to become an impact bench player. I haven’t seen anything yet to change my mind on that.

Usain next time you want to be a professional footballer turnup fit. Pretty simple you can’t go from party to footballer just because it’s your dream

Al,
Maybe the only time i've ever called you out coz i love you and yours posts but .............................
Wake up mate.
This clown just drew a crowd of 10k to a nothing match just for the change to see him play.We are a f**king shit team, the 2nd worst in Australia..................so i dont think we can be critical of anyone, ever.
We dee\emed him fit enough to play 15-20 mins coz WE wanted the money.

Yeah nah, he showed nothing. Fit or not.
Even watching his small pre game warm up with nisbet McGing etc
f**king touch of an AA9’er.

Happy enough to watch him when abit fitter in the next match.. but only because it’ll prove fitness isn’t the issue.
And let’s not even get started about the positional sense, spacial awareness and match intelligence that even Mitch Austin and Kwab Appiah have (if you want to make comparisons)

The exposure has been great for our club. I’ll cop that as I was stupid to believe it wasn’t a good thing. But he’s just not upto it.

The other day I said:
The reaction to this game will be interesting.
We all know that he's nowhere near ready yet, very early days and all, but he'll have 15-20mins and then there will be strong and vocal opinions all over the place.

Let's see in 6 weeks. On balance it seems an unlikely story but who knows. One thing we did know was he was never going to be up to scratch tonight.

I agree he is no better than the other muppet.......................but the other muppet was a CCMFC and Drive by reject who coudn't score in a brothel.
This bloke is the most famous Athelete since Daley Thompson or Zola Budd.
Im shocked that you cant see the benefits to our club.

RE: fitness

I don't want to be too critical, but he was asked in last night's press conference what has he been doing (i.e. including fitness) since retiring from athletics.

And I did not like his answer.
Yes, he doesn't owe anyone anything. But I think he has let himself down.

He said that he didn't work out a lot because he had been working al his life.

:yellowcard:

Bolt has been saying for years now that he wants to play professional football once he retires.
Sure not many of us took him seriously, but it turns out he was being 100% serious.
Which is great. Good for him.

But he retired in 2017, at the age of 31.
Not much time to carve out a football career.

And he has practically UNLIMITED financial resources...(his net worth is 90 million USD I believe)
He should have hired the BEST in football fitness.
Some ex-fitness coach keen to work with him 1 on 1 for 3-6 months.

Mostly work on his fitness, but maybe even a bit on his technique.
So he could at least arrive in peak physical condition.

I would have done things differently.

I don't think he is good enough, and I hope we know when to quit.

But I suspect that we will give him every chance to prove himself (maybe even offer him a contract regardless), and I sincerely hope he proves me wrong.

Most of the “people” were kids there tonight ......... slightly outnumbering the females. Probably will give the biggest boost to the club, the kids I mean.
Media exposure was monstrous but only time will tell if it is any real benefit. Nobody remembers his previous trial games without wikipedia or google help.
Fox weren’t interested in the football club ...... focused on the bolt dream.
Football wise it was a disaster for bolt, fox and the club. I can imagine the viewing stats reinteresting buttheimportant one is who will bother with the next one from here.
A more low key introduction to the dream being realised instead of focusing on how much work he needed to do would have been more benificial to all parties ....... but charlesworth’s grab at the $ surpassed the good intent of the trial............. as did wombat’s excessive use of the colourful language and references to brothels etc.
I’ll have to research who daly thompson and zola budd were and what team they trialled for .......... maybe later:popcorn:

Offsider, maybe MC grabbed the money now because there is no chance of grabbing it later?

I should have worded my comment more carefully ............. I am not against his marketing the moment. It would have been a giant market whenever bolt was exposed to the masses. But .......... it was too soon and he was not ready for last night.

The biggest result of the show last night will be that a lot will be thinking he can’t make it...............and it is too early to tell.

I tend to disagree. This game was the perfect opportunity to get everyone off his back. He can now train without any expectations from the world that he will play any time soon.

If in all likelihood he doesn't make it he can move on and MC, the Bolt fans and the media have already grabbed their pound of flesh.

If by some miracle he does make it, it will be an even greater story.

I think you guys are to harsh.
This guy is a winner . He signed a training contract not a million dollar No 9 .
It will take a year for sure .

And if he put some money into our club WTF is the issue . If you have a lazy million to wack in . Snipe away . If not be happy you have a club . With as another punter said the worlds greatest athlete .
Playing for love of the game .

This is a great post. I think the trial came at the right time in it still is early days and he is clearly unfit. It gives all the critics a chance to have their say but still leaves hope for those that want to believe the 'the unlikely story'. Now if he can get fit away from the spotlight for a couple of months to get some fitness and to get some gelling with the squad.

TBH I don't think he will ever have the touch to be a winger. But he could prove a handful as an impact player monstering his way around the box.

Our link play to the forwards in the second half was poor once Wee-Mac went off and Murray, Bolt and the Serbian striker all suffered as a result. I'm still to be convinced but I certainly wouldn't be judging him as harshly at this stage as Bozza. .

I think it was too soon and I think Bolt knew that going in.

We can speculate til the cows come home, but only time will tell. I feel if he had at least gotten match fit and been given some simple drills to integrate with the team that exploit his speed, I. E practising drawing wide defenders in, Bolt pelting down the line and then someone with a good long ball picks him out from the midfield that would have been much more effective.

Imagine how excited the crowd would have gotten to watch him burn some right fullback and get to the ball first, everyone was in their feet just to see him not kick the ball out on his first touch..

Too much too soon I'm afraid.

Well...the highlights aren't flattering. Even that one going across goal that he just missed, had he slide he would have gotten a goal. Things like that - how do you train that into somebody?

It's an exciting experiment for the club, but I imagine there's a lot of nervous people. I wonder if Mulvey would rather be without this pressure and eyes on him - hope it's not distracting too much from his job.

So what if Bolt doesn't get good enough? How hard will it be for Mulvey to say 'thanks, but no thanks'? We already expect there's likely to be a compromise - I expect the 'acceptable' standard for Bolt may well be a bit lower than for anybody else (but maybe that's not the case at all). And that might be okay - but what if he doesn't even get to that standard?

No problems with a call out. Made me have a good think. What did i say wrong.

I was a party pooper. Yeah I appreciate i was and don’t like being that.

What i did do was cut the BS and just jump to final feelings in a short sharp post. Here is the guts of what I think in more detail. (I haven’t read any further posts so apologies if I double up.

What i was doing was talking purely about the player not the man.

I actually enjoyed the night (on tv) it was a special night for the coast as a whole. Having Usain here to do anything is exceptional and the crowd fed off it.
I should of spent sometime appreciating that before jumping in.
It’s both amazing and disappointing that he can draw a crowd double our home games last year with double trips from all 3 nsw teams.

I think the club did an amazing job in difficult conditions with the scrutiny so high. Having club people talking to fox all game was fantastic.

I loved Bolts nerves his demeanour (he even had a crack at the player for not passing it to him down the line on the last play). He did all the right things high fiving the crowd, went into the dressing room of the select team and signed shirts (even though Shaun directed him there - but he did it with no issues)
He impressed me in almost everything he has done except one.

Fitness. The player was cooked after 5 mins. Locky Wales style. What pissed me off was these talks have been going for 5 months. He says he wants to be a footballer but has done bugger all lead up fitness work. He thinks he can turn up and get fit. He is supposed to be here for a trial to make the team. He said post match give me 2
Months to get fit. What was he doing before he got here. The club has taken a massive punt on him and he also had a lot to loose but not what the club has. The fact we are in this position is hugely disappointing. We are on such a huge decline from the GF win.

I just felt he didn’t take it serious enough thinking he can just waltz in and be up to it. We should be seeing if he has skills that can be polished to make him Appiah not wasting that time getting him fit.

Our team is crap enough without them training against crap.

I saw a footballer who had no clue positionally. He got beaten to headers 3 times by no4 who was half his size. Sure deliver the pass higher but he had no awareness to attack the ball. He was waiting for it.

He has no ability to beat his man with ball at feet. He tried to let it run and got tangled up and tackled.

I saw a heavy unfit bloke who is famous and has some basic skills that we all have. I just called that straight out instead of enjoying what was essentially a special night for the coast.

However i now see all time spent on him as wasted time that should be spent on the actual players. Harsh sure but fair I think. Sure it’s one look at one unfit bloke but don’t turn up unfit. Simple.

He would be fantastic as an ambassador for the club and I’d be happy for us to sell trial games to clubs across the country to cash in on him next year and give him another shot as long as it’s early in the preseason.

That’s enough I guess but the actual team looks poor and will struggle again

I was their to enjoy the night - which I did but this also worried me.

Pearce once again showed that NPL2 may be his level. Cisse made quite a few errors. Millar was repeatedly beaten. Kekeris, Clisby, WeeMac and Matty and even Shabow all looked okay.

Assuming a 3-5-2

I think a midfield trio of O'Neill, Tom and WeeMac supported by Shabow, Melling, Kekeris and Berry look ok. The front two of Simon and Gamiero supported by Murray also look ok - but could do with a proven prolific striker.

At the back though we still have major problems. Only Golec and Clisby gave me any confidence against an amateur side.
