Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Usain Bolt!

The number plates post has been reported as spam - I don't see any issue with it. Maybe Bolt will buy them? Maybe someone who has a sandwich van and charges $9.58 for a BLT will buy them?

. i didn't report it as spam ... but it is the bloke's only post on the forum so surely it meets the definition

... it really doesn't bother me other than Charlesworth should post under his own name like Shaun does :grouphug:

I obviously want us to capitalise but concerned what will happen If he goes out there and fumbles his first couple of touches or butchers a chance or two. A lot of haters will be desperate to pounce.

I agree wholeheartedly... Not that I actually have an opinion on hos playing qualities at this point but, just look at how much analysis has been pieced together on his 'left-footedness' based purely on the 45-minute session the other day... I think it's unlikely that he'll succeed as it is, but I don't think this'll help it, unless he turns out to be significantly better than anyone expects.

Can you imagine if he gets a niggle next week and doesn't actually get any game time!

Also - talk about putting pressure on Mulvey - one minute its 'we'll take as long as we need' - next minute - 'Bolts first trial is televised!!"

Hence the circus calls.

You can’t capitalise if he is rubbish. Otherwise he is just a sauce bottle.

It’s a first grade team he. If he struggles against them then the doubters are correct. 6 months won’t fix it.

Throw him in and see if he can swim

He wasn’t brought here to be a key signing in an effort to win the a-league .............. he was seen as a way to increase interest and gate takings. You can’t put bums on seats if you leave him in the dressing sheds.

If he fails to score a hat trick you can hear the excuses already that they just needed to get a starting point for the work needed blah blah blah.

Personally ............ I find his interest sincere and his dream of playing for manchester united ........... well they need somebody at the moment ???

If we had an NPL trialist and gave them game time in a trial game no one would question it. It makes sense from a footballing perspective to see how he goes in a live game situation. Training sessions alone are not enough. The only reason you wouln't play him in a trial game is tht he is physically not ready or blatantly not competent. It appears he is not in either of these categories so playing Bolt in a trial game makes sense regardless of the Fox Circus motivation.

It borders on neglegent to throw him without at least a month of preseason given he retired like 2 years ago and has only had sporadic trials since.

Usain Bolt may have completed just two light training sessions but one of his new Central Coast Mariners teammates is adamant the Jamaican sprint star has what it takes to “make it” after witnessing the belief and confidence he has in himself.

The Mariners have been cautious not to throw the eight-time Olympic gold medallist in the deep end as he begins his quest to make it as a professional footballer in the A-League.

After getting through his first training session in front of dozens of cameras in Gosford on Tuesday, Bolt went through a similar hit-out the following day.

There have been no intense skills sessions or mini-games for teammates to get a definitive gauge of whether his latest dream is the real deal.

The 32-year-old does, however, have an unmistakable air of confidence in the way he goes about his business that has convinced those around him they would be foolish to back against him.

“He knows what he wants, he’s so determined … he has so much self-belief and confidence that he’s going to make it,” Mariners defender Antony Golec told Fairfax Media. “That’s what you need as an athlete. He’s got six weeks to prove not just to the club but to everyone around the world that he is good enough. If he wants it, he’ll get it. He’s done it time and time again. I have no doubt he’ll do it in football.

“He’s got that winning mentality and you have to have that when you’re the best.

“He did the warm-up and passing drill with us, quite similar to what we did when he first trained. It was a light session. There’s still another five and a half weeks that he’ll be involved and we’ll see more.”

Anticipation is growing among Bolt’s teammates. They have had a look at his skills but are itching to see him in a game situation.

“He’s the fastest man in the world and probably will be for a very long time, so we’re curious to see if someone can play a ball over the top and see how quick he’s going to get to it,” Golec said.

Bolt has already been described as down to earth, humble and a guy that really doesn’t want to be the centre of attention, even if that is realistically not going to be possible for at least the next six weeks.

Mariners players joked on Tuesday that Bolt would still be involved in the club’s informal “fines” system, whereby light-hearted indiscretions result in a financial donation to a team kitty.

As it turns out, that might not be happening any more.

“As a joke we said we might put another two zeroes at the end of every fine just for him just to jack it up a bit,” Golec said. “He’s here on a trial, we’re not going to fine him for anything. We joke around with him but it’s Usain Bolt, what are you going to tell him?”

While Bolt won’t take part in a trial match this weekend against the Newcastle Jets, he is still in line to feature in another pre-season hit-out against a Central Coast select team next Friday. Already, 1500 tickets have been sold for the match.

“I don’t know the coaches’ plans but I presume he will have a go because he is trialling here for a contract,” Golec said. “I’m quite confident he’ll have a big role in that game. It’s still undecided where he will play. It’s still a bit early to get into the full swing of things. Over the next week he’ll start getting more involved and we’ll have more of an idea of where he is more comfortable playing.”

Without looking it up, name the clubs he’s trialled with.

We haven’t achieved anything yet (that we know of commercially). Being spoken about for a week doesn’t mean much.

Yes a lot of people have clicked or read an article but ask them in two weeks if they remember us.

My friends from Tassie to Qld know about Bolt being here and he hasn't done anything yet.
We haven't had coverage like this ever. The potential is huge.
The key is we need to sign 3 or 4 decent players to ensure we are competative otherwise the whole thing will be a waste of time.

The circus calls began from the outset.

This in no way is a typical trial. He’s clearly here to develop longer term. And see if that development equates to being good enough to play.

So where and how you reveal his ability or lack thereof matters a great deal I think. And you don’t want that confused with early nerves. Or even one swallow does not a summer make. Bolt scores. World goes wild. And they start demanding he’s our starting striker.

Trying to earn your pro contract. Whole Worlds eyes on you. Touch down, in less than a fortnight, first trial game. Fox will broadcast it.

Lucky he’s good with pressure. Sheesh.

As to 6 months will make no difference. That’s entirely dependent on his level of ability and aptitude for learning.

He may be of a level where 6 months of constant professional training will tip him over the threshold of being up to it. Or his ability may be that even two years of development at this late stage would not suffice.

But as you still haven’t lent me your crystal ball. I still think the answer is unknown.

Yeah I was feeling a bit this way. But he must be doing well. Or it would be nuts.

The previous trials seem to be in lesser and lesser strength leagues starting from epl ???
I would guess that his advisers have suggested that the a-league is more to his standard at this stage and a better starting point for him. He is not without some skill from his highlight reel :vhappy:.
