He's entitled to his opinion but his only salient point is the one about pattern recognition / repetition. Rest is just a boring hit piece.
"I just can’t my head around the priorities of the club."
It's simple. They want to capitalise on Usain's profile, but have stated will only do it if he can play. So priorities are to grow, make money, and recruit players who can assist our upcoming season.
Now I get people are worried that's not Bolt. BUT, we're only talking about one player. For a TRIAL. We take risks on multiple unproven juniors every bloody year. You evaluate risks by balancing their potential upside against the worse case. There is a worse case version of this like anything, but there is a far far greater upside than almost any other signing we could make at this stage in our fortunes to weigh against it. It's genuinely outside the box in a fascinating way that could be anything if people are honest. But like Rowdy said in another post, to come good, we will need the stars to align a bit.
Bottom line, no one knows whats what yet. Certainly not Fitzsimmons. That's what TRIALS, are for. Evaluating so you can make a good decision. Club is proceeding wisely here. Trialing, being clear skill level must be there etc. What more can people want. Refuse to trial Bolt on principle? Considering his unique background, that would be a shit principle if you ask me. I don't see Dortmund as a circus for trialling him.
"- our squad is not yet complete"
- Agreed, but all know it, and no doubt they're working on it. New Bolt sponsor money could make a big difference to what those final key signings look like.
"- the already assembled squad is insufficient"
Ok, again agreed. But this is really just the same point. You're typically going to be insufficient, until you're complete. Once we're complete, is the time to gauge how insufficient we may or may not be.
"- our preseason is not as developed as other clubs. "
No reason to believe Bolt is having any effect on our preseason plans whatsoever.
I don't think we know a great deal about what our pre season looks like. Players are training, Mulvey is purported to be a good task master and believes in hard work. We're going off some other teams have announced the games they have lined up from all I can tell?
I'd say DeSilva is a thorn in our side. But I'm sure they're just getting on with it. Be fools not to be. And I don't think they're even remotely fools. Mulvey and Monty MUST and WILL have a plan. I don't think they think they can have a good season without preparing for it. They're not numpties. Not sure why people are starting to worry at this yet and making these assumptions.
-
we seem to be going to the FFA Cup game very unprepared. "
Again "seem" is the operative word. But this may be true in so far as no full pre season games - though I'm sure they will be playing behind closed doors. I want us to come good and these guys are professional footballers so I'm sure they will want to get out there and win, But truth is, AU are rightfully favourites to beat us and we need to be focused on the season much more than the cup.
"This will not end well in the long term."
Sorry MB, but you're not an oracle mate.
"If I wanted this tacky stuff then I would watch AFL or BBL."
I don't find one of histories greatest athletes trying to realise his other boyhood dream, tacky. Find it sad that some of the media are enjoying degrading it this way. If Bolt was doing it for a laugh, or with causal arrogance, I'd be 100% with you. But that's not at all how he's come across or what he he's been saying or the club.
"I want to follow a football club again."
Madness that a trial of one would be player, regardless of their profile, should conflate to us not being a "football club".
Sorry, but that ones just total bollocks. We are a football club, we've just been playing shit football for a few years, End of. Someone will always spoon. Just like in all the other season when it wasn't us.
