Tianjin Teda against Mariners

Tianjin Teda And Kawasaki Frontale  played tonight and Tianjin Teda beat kawasaki 3-1.

Heck Mariners couldn't stand up to the steelers, or Kawasaki, what kind of result can we expect against Tianjin Teda ?  especially when  we haven't anything to play for?

I was disappointed Kawasaki lost this match.... cause now that I haven't got the Mariners to go for in the Asian championship, I am going for kawasaki !!!
I would have liked to watch this match.... I was so suprised when I saw the results.

Call me crazy but if Lawrie drops Hutcho and puts out a decent side we could win this one!!??

I'd actually like to see Lawrie give Danny the night off, and through Redmayne in between the sticks. Probably the only one here who thinks like that though.. I hope we win, and salvage some pride, but I think we're gonna struggle to get much from this one

Not going to happen. We played teda off the park.

A loss at home would be surely by psychological for the players.

But more so, would be awful for the supporters. At least winning one game in 5 months might be a start. Rather than going into august without a win since december.

Sure, test a couple of guys, for f**k sake rest hutcho if there is no other way for lawrie to leave him off the starting line up, but try and restore some pride.

If instead of letting in soft goals, we kept a clean sheet where we actually did some good defence consistantly and didnt allow the soft opportunities, it would at least be something to take from being embarressed all over asia

Looks like all 3 strikers are out, with lawrie saying he will have to partner kwassie with either caceras or hutch.

Fortune has it we dont need anything from this match. But imagine we needed a win, we would surely be thinking we were dickheads for letting sash go early. Though i also feel we could have used him in the campaign.

Win or not, I think that anyway.  Not quite on the "sell Jedi" epic levels of stupidity, but it's up there.

The mere thought of Hutch playing upfront...... wow.  Just, wow.  Have we really sunk _that_ far??

Sorry Jesus I have been thinking that for 2 months mate. OK I know he's old , he wanted 2 years Blah blah blah. The Guy A. scores goals and 2. Is a big game player! He would have done for us what he is doing for the Scum! Imagine what he will do during the season with the confidance he has gained from scoring 3  or so goals in the ACL! (penalty aside of course).

CENTRAL Coast Mariners youngster Matthew Lewis is hoping to press his case for a full-time contract with the club in Tuesday's Asian Champions League clash against Tianjin Teda.
Lewis has a chance to start his first match for the Mariners, who are out of contention for a spot in the second round of the Asian Champions League, when Lawrie McKinna takes an inexperienced team into battle on Tuesday.

"Hopefully Lawrie gives some of us young boys a go in the last match, seeing as there's nothing to play for really. It would be great to get game," Lewis said.

Lewis, 18, has relished spending time with the senior group during the ACL campaign and featured on the bench in the heartbreaking 3-2 loss to the Pohang Steelers in the previous game.

"It's been really good I think. Just training with these boys. It's been great. I've learned a lot from them. It was great to go to Korea and get a look in," he said.

Having starred for the Mariners Youth League team last season, he thinks he may be able to press for a Hyundai A-League deal with a strong performance in Tuesday's game.

"It's my first priority. Hopefully I've done enough over the last four or five months to get a look in. It's a dream to play soccer full time, hopefully I can do it here," he said.

does anyone think he's good enough ???

i love the kid (who is the first mariner to be younger than me...weird)
BUT
fulltime contract...hmmm, wait til we see wat players we get. No use having 2 left sided players (ie. D'Appuzzo) who are on contracts but end up playing NYL

that said the way rizzo is going (Lawrie doesnt rate him)- may as well let Lewis take that spot for less money

Did Lewis really say that? Most kids his age won't admit to being 'young boys', let alone tell the press. He's fast - I saw him in a couple of NYL games and has a decent pass or two in him. Who knows how he'd go against Teda, but maybe he's worth the shot. A pumped up player is always better than one not wanting to out there.

i like lewis cause he is a decent player and i have followed him while watchin the NYL games and picked him to step up to the first team which he has sorta done so far. I hope he gets a run for this game because i believe he can be developed into a really good player in our squad
