The design of the trophies in the A-league has always been a source of disappointment to me. The Bledisloe Cup... now THAT'S a trophey! The Stanley cup is another that comes to mind. The FA cup of course.
The toilet seat is what happens when coke-fuelled advertising and marketing execs get involved in sport. Same goes for team names, jersey and emblem designs. What were they thinking when they came up with the Fury's name and jersey? Most of the emblem's are quite ordinary too. Take ours for example. It appeals to the lowest common denominator... a wave and a football... der! Was there no heritage we could draw on? Did we not have representative sides in the past? What emblem was on their jersey? (seriously, I dont know).
Perhaps the best example that springs to my mind is Fulham. They had quite an intricate coat of arm and replaced it with a "FFC". Sure, it's easier for the kiddies to draw and perhaps instantly recognisable by consumers and those who feel the need to show their aligence in the simplest possible terms, but I prefer the more stately coat of arms approach... after all, armies went to war with a coat of arms emblazoned on their armour.
I dont know what triggered this rant... lol. I hope I'm not out of order, but I just hate it when traditional things get modernised... like the national anthem. I prefer Julie Anthony's version over some pussy boy-band's version.
