given the exodus during the game on friday and aver lengthening periods of silence interspersed only wth bursts of 'sing us a song...' and 'let's go mariners let's go', it's clear the [hurl abuse at everyone who isn't doing exactly what the 'capo' wants/shrug your shoulders and lament how 'pathetic' it all is] approach is also working a treat.

might be worth hopping off that very high horse and working with what we have rather than against it. you're not going to get a truly awesome home end by wishing it were true and bellowing at people when it's not.

look, i've no doubt that the scoreline and the manner of play didn't help, but the capo was hardly an inspirational nor unifying force.

what basically amounted to a half hour shouting match between craig and trumpet boy was a particular low point, and between that and a bunch of sarcastic comments and generally berating the bay rather than leading it we saw in living colour how to make the least use of what was basically 500 people ready and willing to participate in some way.

we can't and won't move forward unless we take stock of what we've got.

we're certainly bigger and (when we get our shit together) louder than we've been in at least two years if not ever and we're also singing a bunch of new material this year. some stuff will fly and some won't. that's a fact of life.

if people can't figure that like it or lump it, everyone is still in it on their own terms and not just those of the bloke with the megaphone, then maybe they need to work out whether they're in it for their own purposes or for the group as a whole.

they were singing. they were singing stuff that neither you nor i like awfully much, but they were singing. getting them to sing stuff we like won't happen by hurling (alternately) abuse and sarcastic remarks.

there always has and always will be *a number* of people who don't sing, but that's not a problem isolated to us. frankly there are people active on this forum who are often in the bay and have been for years who don't sing a lot either, but i'm not about to suggest we hurl abuse at them constantly, because i can't see it either convincing them to sing or convince them to do anything other than think i'm a dickhead.
