ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

The "Nicky Travis is the new Tommy P" thread

Disagree with thread title. Travis is in a league of his own. Tommy showed glimpses of his skills that he exhibited whilst at Perth, although the stuff he did produce was brilliance he sometimes didn't get himself involved in matches and training which im sure was his downfall at the club and why he was let go.
Travis is young and so far has injected himself into every game. We're yet to see if he has a bad work ethic and goes AWOL when we need him i.e Tommy P.

Travis deserves his own appreciation thread, without attachments to Tommy P. but if we're going to go down that path, "why not Travis is the new Sully" thread.

. interesting ... a poor tommy work ethic is not something that i remember being mentioned much around here during the first three seasons ... maybe i am just looking back with yellow-tinted glasses

. i do remember a length of pitch scramble to save a goal whilst danny was on one of his 'hope to score' excursions ... was never going to effect the match, but goal difference could have been the decider come premiership plate time. wasn't showing a poor work ethic then

. also i believe it was tommy who decided (for family reasons) not to exercise an option on his contract rather than being 'let go' by the club

. as for a comparison to travis ... still might be a bit early to judge his work ethic after what is essentially only a couple of games having won a starting spot from the bench (different mindset perhaps). for what its worth i do rate the guy - together with the wee man they have transformed the way we play

Minus the opinions on Tommy P's career at CCM, my point was that I feel its comparing apples to oranges.

1) Nicky shouldn't be compared to Tommy. If he continues to perform (and I hope he will)  he will build his own following.

2) I never had a problem with Tommy's work ethic and well remember the track back to save the goal against Sydney.

3) Sadly - I don't think we saw the best of Tommy at CCM.

4) Tommy wanted his last contract to be in close to his family. The club and he parted on good terms

. in fairness i'd suggest the title is more a reflection on the object of someone's desires ... a bro-mance, if you will - rather than a direct comparison between the two

. arguing the merits of each will always be difficult ... although they play a similar role, you could say the mariners team they each played in is quite different as well as the relative position in their careers

This.  ;)

Also - I meant more from a "he's very similar to Tommy in that he dominates the No. 10 role and when he's on fire the whole team gets a lift" perspective.

Your Tommy P man love has been well recorded Serious.
I personally was stunned that you made such a concession,
believing it to be - if you will forgive me -  "Serious" praise indeed...

Seems warranted... lets hope he helps win us the toilet seat this year.
