Just before the V1 A-league grand final I posted on the Marinators site a 'modern football fable' about the Mariners called: 'The Little Club That Could'. Complete with images of cute teddy bears in navy and blue kit, it told the story of our humble but successful club.
Looking recently at all the A-League stories of doom and gloom. Namely the financial and competition ups and downs of Jets, Fury, Sydney FC, Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Perth, it is nice to know that the Mariners, in its own quiet, professional way, is still 'The Little Club That Could'. Or should that now be 'The Little Club That Does'.
Here we are then in A-League V6, high on the table, playing great football, good community engagement, stable management looking to build for the future with the Centre of Excellence. Tick, tick, tick, tick, etc. We're certainly ticking most of the boxes.
We may fly under the radar, eg. 'No one rates us but we don't care', but we continue to punch well above our weight.
Here's hoping that the Central Coast population sees past the doom and gloom pushed by the media, and can spot the jewel right in front of them.
With summer nearly here, and a long string of home games ahead, I'm hoping that we get a big increase in attendance at games. The Club and players deserve nothing less than a packed house.
