ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I raised this point last year.

To me it`s moronic to put the sprinklers on before the game starts.
We had 4-5 players slipping over in the first 20mins & they were mainly at the back, which could have caused all sorts of problems with injuries or goals against.

It doesn`t make the ball move any faster, the opposition isn`t caught off guard & most of the fans think the groundsman is a knob for letting the sprinklers come on.

So cut the crap, leave the field dry & get on with the game!!!

And when the pitch is cut up, damaged and generally f***** up much, much faster than normal, the groundsmen will cop a double dose of of double dutch, ignorant bullshit like the thread heading and accused of incompetency. The mariners aren't the only club doing it, either. Groundskeepers would be pulling out their hair with the existing attitude. You fix it nice for us and we'll f**k it good for you.

So why don`t they water it an hour before kick-off.Surely at 7.45pm ko or even 5pm Ko it`s not going to be that much difference to the ground & the surface water would seep in.

But besides that, don`t the groundsmen have 14 days or so between matches(working 8 hours a day) to patch up the field & get it right?
I would have thought that would be sufficient time especially in summer & when there are no other games being played.

Also,do they water the ground minutes before an NRL game or a RU game? :naughty:

So before I sharpen my pitchfork, is there any purpose to wetting the pitch other than thinking that we play better on wet grass than any other team? Or is that pretty much it?

The theory is (fair enough too) that it makes it a quicker pitch. The question was actually posed to Wilko in the Post match interviewand he says that they prefer it that way.

I don't think it is helpful, its not like the pitch is going to be tremendously slow without it. And you commonly see players slipping over because of it. I think they would have far more confidence to run, turn and whatnot if they were more sure of their footing.

Also, I think it may have contributed (in a small way) to Perth's goal against us a few weeks back, I'm pretty sure Matt Ryan slipped while moving to dive for the save.

THIS, is driving me absolutely spare also.

There perceptions on preference clearly do not translate or show. They look fearful and awkward, and bloody well should do as they suffer multiple slip overs every time they play the first 15 minutes on ice at home.
They should be starting and moving with confidence and fire.

Matty Ryan, while he probably wouldn't have got there, slipped in the previous home game when he tried to change direction, and that was the last straw for me. And then having to endure watching bernie slip twice inside the first minute?
Had me screaming from my seat.

I think Matty would have got there easily.

The other thing is the players themselves. Arnie, having seen Bernie slip twice early, really gave him a serve for wearing blades instead of studs. It would seem that Arnie wants the pitch watered - but surely you must water it earlier or make sure the players wear proper studs.

Its just common sense isn't it!

You give the players the option -

Watered pitch and screw-ins, or dry pitch and blades

Mix and Match will result in disaster!!

What has happened to our pitch?

It was beautiful a few weeks ago and is disgraceful now. What's the problem?

Winter grass is dying and summer grass is coming through.

Has happened late because of cool weather.

With a multitude of home games in next few weeks pitch will only get worse.

. wasn't there a Christmas event held at the stadium ... which was cut short when the weather turned nasty?

. otherwise i would have thought the conditions have been pretty good recently for keeping the pitch in good order
