From the SMH:

""In other A-League news, North Queensland will announce today that Central Coast Mariners assistant coach Ian Ferguson will take the reins as the club's inaugural coach next season.

Ferguson, 41, made his name in his native Scotland as a commanding midfielder with Rangers, where he made 336 appearances in 12 years at the Glasgow club. He then spent two seasons at Dunfermline before jetting out to play with Northern Spirit in 2002 and has remained in Australia since.

The former Scotland international beat a strong field of candidates that included Graham Arnold and Branko Culina, although it is believed the final decision was between Ferguson and Adelaide United assistant Phil Stubbins".

Good luck Fergie.

Best of luck to Fergie.

Will we be asking for the golf swing when he coaches against us? At least I got one last opportunity to use that line in Mackay earlier this year when he played.

As for Arnold, one day con will give hime a chance if the marquee signings are anything to go by. Will just have to wait a bit longer to chant arnold out to him in the a-league.  :'(

Ferguson moves on to take reigns at North Queensland

Foundation Central Coast Mariners Head Coach Ian Ferguson has today been unveiled as the inaugural Head Coach of new Hyundai A-League franchise North Queensland FC, ending a hugely successful four-year stint on the Central Coast for the Scottish football great.

Ferguson was first introduced to the Hyundai A-League ahead of the Mariners debut season as deputy to Football Manager Lawrie McKinna and played an instrumental role in assisting the Mariners to two Hyundai A-League Grand Finals, the Hyundai A-League 2007/08 Premiership and 2005 Pre-Season Cup success.

Fergusons work with his new club begins immediately the former Rangers immortal departing the Mariners with the blessing and best wishes from his former employers.

"While it will always be with mixed emotions that we farewell anyone from the Mariners family, let alone a stalwart who has been there from day one, there will always come a time when some members of the club will need to move on to further their own career," said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.

"We have evidenced on many occasions our fundamental principle that anyone who comes into our club should know that there is a career pathway for them and that we will do everything we can to ensure they maximize their growth potential and strive to achieve their aspirations whether at the end of the day this is with the Mariners or at sometime in the future, elsewhere, as is the case with Ian.

"We currently have on our books ten of our foundation year players, a greater number than any other club, all of our coaching staff and all of our senior Management. This is testament to the fact that our philosophy of assisting in the growth of our people serves us very well.

"Ian has been an outstanding contributor towards getting us where we are today and is a wonderful ambassador for the game. His technical knowledge is outstanding and he and I have discussed on many occasions over the past two years his career pathway, including his burning ambition to be a fully fledged Football Manager one day in the Hyundai A-League. That day has now arisen and we are proud to have been a part of his development and in assisting him to achieve his ultimate goal in this regard."

Ah, who changed the title of this thread? Do I not get a say in it, seeing as I started this particular article?

I realise that this title is a bit cheeky, but surely it is not the subject of censorship?

If Ian has complained, fair enough, I will cop it on the chin.

Advice, please, anyone??

i merged the threads, and used the title of the other thread (as more people might know what's going on). no censorship intended certainly.

Thanks, Aaron, I know you are ALL FOR freedom of expression. I am glad it was just a merged thread.

Hope to catch up with you on Sat Night and talk politics, a bloke with decency and integrity like you would be a most welcome addition to the NSW Legislative Assembly. Fascinating to see the Left take control.

Regards,

AM

Thats a tad harsh suggesting someone is suited to be a NSW MLA :)

So Dibo, which ministry do you want to f**k up while positioning yourself for a lucrative consultancy with MBL???

And I'm not so sure your nice young lady will be prepared to put up with you dry humping other ministers either (mind you, how pissed must he have allegedly been?? Hay is worse than Belinda).

Seriously though, if someone has integrity, vision and a desire to make things better, a career in either of our main parties is unlikely to be the best place for you.

Great News for Fergie ............ Ian Crook was also in line for the job and he would make a great replacement IMO. He was also at the NS & worked with the Choppers as ass coach in the first year.

Suspect we will promote from within.

I suspect the club believes in succession planning and will know what they are going to do.

I'm betting its unlikely to be Gumps tho lol
