ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

The Finals (how a top 6 works)

Did some checking around and it seems to work like this.

The top two will play each other home and away in the first two weeks, with the winner to get a week's rest and go straight to the grand final (same as before)

Also in week 1, there are 2 sudden death matchs:

3v6
4v5

Loser OUT

In week 2, the winners of these sudden death games play off over 1 leg - loser out

In week 3, the winner of the sudden death games plays the loser of the major semi, also sudden death.

If the table stayed as it is now, we would play Perth (assume at home) in the 1st week, the winner of GCU v Nix in the 2nd week (at home if Nix win or GC if they win)

In the 3rd week we would have to play either SFc or the Tards away for a place in the GF

Top 2 at all costs pls boys

finally retired

from that the winner of the top two wont play for three weeks. I would rather play the week before the GF
nah...it seems that the winner of the top 2 simply gets the week off before the grand final, as the other games are sudden death one game matches...not home and way

Correct, winner of the major semi gets 1 week off.

Other G Finalist will be knackered and yellow cards become a factor.

Massive incentive for top 2

how can u be in the bottom half of the table and qualify come finals time? Absolutely ridiculous!

Losers of 1 v2 plays the best of the rest in a sudden death game to decide who goes to the GF.

If the league winners go straight through to the GF, like we did, and an ACL place awaits the 2nd place side if they can make it. This game might be epic.

ill try a word picture (the letters will correspond to the winners of each tie)

week 1 ---------week 2-----------week 3-----------week 4
2v1 -------------1v2(A wins, B lose)------------------A v F
-----------------------------------B v E (F)
3v6 (C)---------C v D (E)
4v5 (D)

3 games---------2 games ------------1 game---------1 game

Farce.

Win the league please CCM.

F**k the seat, give me the plate.

Why not have both? Victory seems to enjoy doing it that way.

Because its not football.

There should be more emphasis placed on the first past the post, and we as football fans should not encourage the FFA to continue the farce that is the finals. It should be widely advertised that it is a post season cup. NOT a finals series.

Ugh..... I dislike the very concept of a finals series in football - it just doesn't feel right.

The ironic thing is that the HAL Finals have produced the best football and most exciting games that the competition has seen thus far (the 1-1 with Newcastle in V1, Sydney and Adelaide's two legged series from the same year, Melbourne's last minute winner in V2 against Adelaide, the 3-0 against Newcastle - to name a few).  Biggest crowds too.  Bizarre.

well.. of course. To the australian sport-supporting public finals are the be all and end all of competition.

Yeah I know that, but it's a shame that's what it has become.  Look at the NRL this year - Parramatta making the GF from 8th, with a Win-Draw-Loss record of 12-1-11??  Ridiculous.

Seat AND plate will do fine thanks. To be presented jointly by Foster, Slater and Hill, while standing on Harper.

What a wet dream!
