ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Sydney to host the Grand Final next 3 years

Yep. Forgot about that one. The point still stands though. If you're walking now why not the last 13 yrs?

I have not attended a GF since then and will not in future.

Now there is enough support by fans of other clubs against this decision, that affects them in a similar way as 2008 did us, that a protest will be big enough to be noticed and to maybe have some effect.

So we're the only club that has "won" the right to host a "grand final" and got shafted despite this c**t of a decision. Why is it that everyone is walking out now and not for the last 13yrs?

Doesn't make sense to me............

I think a lot of people will be asking this one. Plenty of people don't follow the game closely, or they weren't around back in the day when CCM got shafted by the FFA - just talking about the grand final here, not the dozens of other things along the years. There's a bit more context around it than just moving a game to Sydney once or twice and then doing it again for 3 years, but this time announcing it in advance.

Take your mind back to the start of the A-League. There was actually marketing back then. It was weird robot things kicking balls around and what-not but nonetheless, it was marketing! The Mariners were getting regular 10k plus crowds. It was easy to estimate the crowd figure at games - it was my standard question of anyone around me - how many do ya reckon we have here? At around 450 capacity a bay you could count the full bays, count the half full bays, chuck in GST, and you would get pretty close.

Round 20 in 2008 CCM vs Scum was a full house. Two leg finals vs the Scum both capacity crowds. There was a great vibe about the game, people wanted to go and be a part of it. The FFA moved that game to Sydney chasing crowd numbers. We didn't like it of course, but accepted that it was good for the game.

2013 would have been at Parramatta and we got the same line about wanting a bigger crowd and really... nobody wanted to go to Parramatta anyway.

Think about the state of the game now compared to then. No advertising. Messy break-up with Foxtel due to various things but the FFA not bothering to market the game is one of them. Years of active support being suppressed and driven away by the FFA. Very little interest from the hard-core football community let alone the "casual sports fans". Even the RBB can't be bothered rioting for a derby any more.

The APL was meant to be the saviour of the sport! Meant to take the game back to the fans. Rebuild the crowds and the interest in the game. Do things that benefit ALL of the clubs and not just the ones with deep pockets. How are they going so far?

For some reason, I actually thought that should we be in a position to host a grand final again, we would actually get to do it. No idea why I thought that now! This one is a bit more than getting angry about a few games being moved, it's the way it was done. Listen to club owners and CEOs talking about how they didn't even know there was a deal being negotiated. I get the feeling "negotiated" is a bit too strong too. Like, after a few wines, "Hey, I know a guy at DNSW why don't we see if they will throw some cash our way if we have the Grand Final in Sydney for a few years. The FFA said it's for the good of the game when they did it. That should please the people. *chuckle* *slurp*"

If this sort of thing is going on now, what other decisions are going to be made and then be "too late" to roll back? The APL isn't even pretending it's about anything other than money, so why would the Mariners ever get a say in the direction of the league, if it even remotely clashes with the interests of Sydney. And this time it's not just the little club being shafted, it's the whole league.

Those are my thoughts. I think I could rant a bit more but that's enough for now :D

I believe we would host depending on opposition. If it was an out of nsw team not called MV.

going to bigger stadiums in the same city while very annoying is very different to having to go interstate. While it’s in Sydney for this 3 year doesn’t mean it will always suit us. It could go to Perth or Melbourne for 10yrs if they have enough $$$$

What happens if Perth says we'll double the offer, it will be in Perth on a Sunday night 8pm local kickoff 11pm eastern. For the long term viability of the league?
To be fair Perth always get screwed with early time slots to suit the eastern market with big events (not regular rounds)

Would actually suit APL because they would get more money and more people watching on TV.

Optus stadium is new and could certainly make a good bid. Definitely an option

There is a precedent there of them holding an AFL grand final too. Let's not give the APL any ideas :D

. apparently NSW didn't want to bid for this 3 year stint ... there is not much chance they would want to compete with VIC or anyone else for that matter in the future

. wouldn't surprise me if the GF never comes to NSW again after this period

You would think at a minimum Melbourne would make a play for it but any government may see it as an opportunity to have and event they can bring there mates to

It almost feels like we just witnessed the start of the death of the A-League. What an absolute bunch of absolutely f**king spastic c**ts. Why on earth would they think that’s needed? And people can say “oh they don’t represent the victory active support” all they want. You can see these images, ALOT of victory fans down that end are loving this. Some of them just came in their pants.

The yellow army boys and the other active support groups till this point have done a fine job with the protest, message delivered. With all the match commentators giving their reinforced 2cents. And now every headline tomorrow and alll next week will be about how f**ked soccer fans are.

Lost alot more than a GF tonight

Glover was an idiot but those thugs came looking for trouble, emotions were to high. Alot of chain reactions in that mess

The APL board will probably all resign but not because of the GF but because sponsors galore will be running for the hills and I wouldn’t be surprised if channel 10 or paramount leave after that

Yes, the APL infuriated 95% (there’s 5% of idiots saying get over it) of the football community with their genuinely retarded decision making. But to say they caused a couple hundred smooth brain mouth breathers to throw multiple flares at a player who had nothing to do with the APL decision and then storm the pitch and commit battery on said player when he throws the flares off the pitch that actually didn’t hit anyone or land in the stands (fell just short)… IMO makes you a smooth brained mouth breather.

Victory probably not playing with crowds anytime soon.
