NS, I know it's been asked many times in this thread, but as the thread starter, it really is time to drop the question mark from the title. 51 pages proves it's no longer a question.
valid point and duely noted

Apparently, certain players would prefer for me to leave Newcastle because I can be too critical but I wouldnt be so critical if they trained harder and worked on the issues at stake.

Certain members of the squad are not pulling their weight ..."

Milicevic delivers blunt message to Jets: Harden the 'f--- up'
BY JAMES GARDINER - Newcastle Morning Herald

UNSETTLED Jets star Ljubo Milicevic confirmed yesterday that he had no intention of playing for the club in the A-League and had a blunt message for teammates offended by his forthright manner: "Harden the f- - - up."

An unrepentant Milicevic met in Sydney yesterday with Jets owner Con Constantine and chief executive John Tsatsimas to try and clear the air.

He had spent the five previous days in Melbourne, where he dealt with a family matter before attending a wedding on Saturday.

Before the pre-arranged leave, the volatile defender had a heated exchange with coach Gary van Egmond at training after which the player stormed off the pitch and did not complete the session.

He has not spoken to the coach since.

He did not return to training yesterday as expected, and told The Herald that he would not participate in an intra-club trial this morning but would train on his own.

The match is the final hit-out before the Jets leave on Saturday for Japan, where they take on Nagoya Grampus in a crucial Asian Champions League battle on April 7.

"You will not see me playing in the A-League any time soon," Milicevic, who signed a one-year deal with the Jets in February, said last night.

"My goal is to go back to Europe in June, so I am very driven."

Milicevic has polarised opinion among teammates with his forthright comments and training-pitch rants.

But the 28-year-old said he was not about to change his ways.

"The day I change is the day I die," he said.

"Even then I won't change.

"Everyone knows who I am and how I am. I am an honest bloke who keeps it real.

"All those who criticise, I ask them to look in the mirror and ask when was the last time they made a decision about themselves that was honest.

"Any boy who aspires to play in Europe has to realise they have to work hard.

"To quote a famous Australian philosopher Mark "Chopper" Read, some of the boys need to "harden the f- - - up".

His attitude was at odds with Jets technical director Branko Culina, who said team harmony had to be held above everything else.

"You need a happy team environment to be successful," Culina said.

"Ljubo is a different character. He is very hard task master but he has to learn to get his message across in a better way.

"Everyone is different. We certainly don't want a team of robots. But we need to find the right balance."

Culina said he was aware that Milicevic had ambitions of returning to Europe and not seeing out his deal at the Jets.

"We would never stand in the way of a player who wanted to better themselves," he said.

"Then it becomes a matter of business.

"I am not going to say it is or it is not going to happen after the ACL.

"But for Ljubo to achieve his goal he needs to be playing football."

Culina had suggested Milicevic and van Egmond go "for a coffee" to sought through any grievances, but the player said that was not necessary.

"There was never really much that when down between me and Dutchy," he said.

"It was not a major issue between us.

"There was one blow-up, but that happens at football clubs the world over.

"I'm just looking forward to getting back to training on Thursday."

Milicevic was one of the stand-outs in the Jets' 2-0 win over Ulsan Hyundai a fortnight ago and on form would be one of the first picked for the trip to Japan.

Van Egmond will not finalise the squad until Friday but said Milicevic's place in the starting side must be in jeopardy.

"At this moment the group of players that are here are training and looking forward to the game in Japan," van Egmond said.

"Would it be nice to have Ljubo here? Of course it would be.

"We have seen how good a player he is, how experienced he is. His organisational skills are fantastic.

"But again, that is something Ljubo has to decide himself.

"If he is not here at the beginning of this week, then he is pretty close to missing a week of training. It makes it more difficult for himself."

Milicevic stayed in Sydney last night after meeting with Constantine and Tsatsimas.

"I will train on my own [tomorrow] afternoon, go to the gym and a two-hour run on the beach," he said.

"I trained every day while I was in Melbourne except Sunday. I do not think anyone can question my commitment to training.

"I do not need someone to tell me to work hard, get enough sleep or not to drink [alcohol]. I'm committed to the cause and some of the boys have to realise to get somewhere in life there has to be sacrifices."

Milicevic confirms Hajduk interest
31 March 2009
SBS EXCLUSIVE: Matthew Hall

The ongoing saga of Ljubo Milicevics football comeback has taken another twist with the fiery defender declaring his ambition to resurrect his Socceroos career with Croatian club Hajduk Split.

Milicevic made no secret his spell with Newcastle Jets may not last longer than the A-League clubs current AFC Champions League campaign and that playing for Hajduk would be an ideal move.

The 27-year-old confirmed the Croatian club, home to former Socceroos midfielder Josip Skoko, had received tapes of his recent performances for the Jets.

There has been ongoing contact with Hajduk Split and it would be a dream come true to pull on the shirt and play in front of Torcida, Milicevic told The World Game.

With Australia scheduled to play Uzbekistan on Wednesday in Sydney and possibly become the first team to qualify for next years FIFA World Cup, Milicevic confirmed his ambition was to reclaim his place in the Socceroos defence and playing football in Europe was the best way to impress coach Pim Verbeek.

Im coming back to kick butt, Milicevic said of his Socceroos hopes.

Milicevic hit headlines last week after a training ground bust up with Jets coach Gary van Egmond and met with senior Newcastle management, including club owner Con Constantine, in Sydney Monday.

The Jets leave on Saturday for Japan, where they take on Nagoya Grampus in an ACL group game on April 7 but it was not yet clear whether Milicevic would travel with the team.

The former FC Thun and Melbourne Victory centre-back confirmed he had received a text message from Van Egmond after the bust up last week but had yet to speak with the coach.

Criticised by some team-mates for his onfield rants, Milicevic said players deserved to be called out when they were under performing.

They get upset when I criticise them but if they start doing their jobs then I wont, he said.

A philosopher eh? That is priceless! I thought I like him before but to refer to Chopper as a philosopher is unreal! Ljubo is an absolute superstar and I hope he does great. Just a hypothetical, if he does find a European club by June, what are the chances that he makes the WC squad? If he is playing well, surely Pim would look at him!

There were a load of what looked like WW2 vets in Martin Place this morning who would be a better option than Jade North
