Thanks Atomic. As far as I can remember, Rogic was only signed with us for one season, so we would only be entitled to 10% of the solidarity contribution. If Celtic received $10 million up front for him, the solidarity contribution would be $500,000, so we would only be entitled to $50,000. Celtic would keep a big chunk of it, around $150,000 I think, and the rest would be divided amongst his junior clubs, so according to Wikipedia Belconnen, ANU, and Tuggeranong would all get a cut. It's a similar situation for Mooy, so Bolton, St Mirren, and Wanderers would all get a small share of 5% of whatever fee Man City receive for him.Impressive work WB! Do you know the facts behind Rogic's current situation? If he was to sign for an EPL team, say for $10 million (keeping things nice and simple), what, if anything, would CCM get?
It isn't much, but it shows the value of developing your own players at academy level. In theory, if someone like Trent Buhagiar went to Europe in a couple of years at the end of his contract, we wouldn't get anything for him up front (and the club's Facebook page would explode with angry comments). If he made some sensible moves like Maty did to progressively bigger leagues, we could earn around 5% of each transfer fee. So if we produce enough Buhagiars, Binghams, Roses, Aminis, Dukes, Sainsburys, Ryans, Rogics, Caceres, Fitzgeralds, etc., we will keep getting small fees every time they get transferred. Over time, and with enough Mariners products floating around world football, we could potentially earn enough to make the academy self-sustaining. The only thing is we get nothing if they move from club to club on a free, so Amini for example hasn't earned us anything yet!
