sounds like a good 'ol time ;-)
As for the ball that was kicked out of the keeper's hands, are we talking the sort of situation where it's kicked moments after the keeper gets it (as in, they commit at roughly the same time)?
Look on the bright side (and yes, there is one) - by the amount of flak it seems your team was giving the ref, it could've ended up much, much worse. Realistically, the whole team getting fired up at the ref is hardly going to help him concentrate.
Handball's a tough one - all it takes is the wrong angle and the ref think he's seen a deflection off the hand when it's come off his chest or vice versa, or some such. Especially when the arm is near the body anyway....probably one of the toughest things for a ref to spot, IMO. Of course it generally helps accurate decision making if you're able to remain closeish to play
Quick point in regards to the back getting sent off while the whole team is yelling - In these situations the ref will generally pick one player, or a couple of players. He can't possibly address the entire team, so he'll pick, say, one. Maybe what that player said was louder than anybody else, more abusive, maybe the ref had warned him earlier, maybe he spoke up first, or maybe he's just the one the ref heard clearest. Who knows - but it's a far more practical approach than warning/booking the whole team
You'd have to admit that all send offs were probably well deserved though. Even if the ref gets it wrong, players and coaches still make a decision to respond in a certain way and those decisions carry consequences. Whether the ref's right or wrong on a decision, dissent and abuse will (and should) get treated the same as if he's right (and heck, I'm no angel on the park either, so don't take this as preaching) . And from a strictly rational perspective, what's the point? The ref's always going to be the one to have the last word. If a player is on a caution for dissent and continues to argue, or a coach has had a few warnings (any more than 1 is too many, IMO) and continues....well, they're not exactly helping themselves.
The more peeved off your team gets at the referee decisions the more you're going to self destruct - seen it many times as a player and a ref. Once you get so frustrated that you're more focussed on the ref than the game it's all over. Yeah, refs will piss you off - but what are you going to do about it, really? Deal with it and play the game - not saying that as a 'just get over it', but it's really the best thing you can do for yourself on the field.
Considering how pissed off I'm sure you are, that's actually quite a well-mannered post
