Rod and the Flack

Is there a thread dedicated to these tools? Was just listening to them and they were talking about the Mariners... after completely ignoring them yesterday - the win didn't even crack a mention in the star fm news.

Rod said a couple of times we won 3-1, even correcting Flack when he said it was 3-0. So flack was doing ok until he said it's the first time Wellington have been beaten at home in years.

Are these guys for real? Am I being a bit harsh? They are the major sponsors, and I don't think it's that much to ask to get a couple of facts right... it's not as if I'm arguing over minor points here like what colour undies the players wear, or what they eat for breakfast on game day... they got the score wrong!

They are too much of a rugby league station. They covered the rugby league in the nrl season and are too concerned about getting the bears on the coast.

And they aren't even funny. Worst thing ccm ever did was give them the radio sponsorship, sea fm and 2go actually seemed to care

i cant help but laugh at the ad on star that is for memberships to the Bears. you have to pay to be a member of a team that doesnt even exist!! Rod and the flack suck, but its hard to listen to the radio of a morning when paddy and ciel suck too (paddys jokes est.1972 and still in use).....but it was a way better deal for the mariners under sea fm and 2go

Yes I agree 2GO did seem to care when they were the sponsors but now . . . 2GO don't give a rat's ass about the Mariners. Each Monday on the Sara and Dwayne show they have a weekend sports wrap with their supposed sports guru Steve Allen. I am becoming increasingly ticked off with him as he has not mentioned the Mariners brilliant results virtually all season. Is this Steve Allen's doing or a DIRECTIVE OF 2GO MANAGEMENT IN RETALIATION TO THEM LOSING THE SPONSORSHIP TO STARFM?
I would NEVER listen to STARFM (or SEAFM) but my loyalty to 2GO is beginning to wane if they have this childish attitude toward the Mariners. There is only one difference between 2GO and my iPOD. There is no news about the Mariners on my iPOD, THE SAME AS 2GO, so the only difference is there are no ads on my iPOD. It's a no brainer if there is no Mariners information then I might as well listen to my ad free iPOD. I sent a rant to 2GO this morning but i dont expect any reply from them but at least I HAVE HAD MY SAY

Star is RL station and Dip Stick & Fark Wit ... have no idea about football ... without doubt one of the worst decisions IMO the club has ever made to switch stations...

Star don't even give the score on the weekends... and as for Dip Stick & Fark Wit if the CCBears ever come on board then we will be luckly to even get our name mentioned during the RL season...

You may ne right with them being pissed off about losing it although it may be childish they may restrictions on wat they can they can say or promote.

I'm an occasional sea fm listener but when I use to listen ti them it was pretty good for promotion. To be fair though the whole league lacks promotion.

A return to Sea fm and 2go could be beneficial. I recall one day hearing on rod and the flack that they interviewed dutchy and didn't know how to say his name, it's called research fellas. Not to forget their lack of football knowledge, at times saying how good we were playing when we were clearly rubbish, last season mainly.

I've give up on local radio....like its been pointed out...HORRIFYING reporting of results, or none at all....and if i'm not mistaken they got about 10 various artists .cds to choose their playlists from.....I watch the games I know what happened and i got my iRiver fully loaded with tons of Classic Rock....so who needs local radio

Within minutes of my posting here and sending a similarly worded email to 2GO
I received a phone call from a 2GO representative. The rep told me THAT CONTRACTUALLY THEIR HANDS ARE TIED. While I understand that I told her that I could not understand why it was not possible for Steve Allen and others to at least acknowledge the Mariners results which would hype it up somewhat and maybe help to put some bums on seats. After all we are all part of the Central Coast and the promotion of the Central Coast benefits everyone. I reiterated my thoughts about the Central Coast's feelings about Steve Allen waxing lyrical about Robbie Fowler's hat trick in comparison to the form of the Mariners.

The 2GO rep thanked me for my email and believed that they (2GO) could do more to support the Mariners results. Will there be a change of attitude at 2GO short term? Only time will tell possibly as early as next Monday when Steve Allen does his weekend roundup. Hopefully we will have positive results for him to report.

I appreciated the prompt phone call from 2GO. At least it shows that they are listening. Now let's hope the Mariners management are also listening and maybe with a serving of humble pie the Mariners and 2GO may get back together. The sooner the better.

Top effort mate. I was right which is unfortunate but even a mention as you say would create more interest, we need it because they are playing well avd deserve a good crowd.

We actually got a bit of a mention on the big sports breakfast last week regarding the COE and a little of how we are going.

This weekend will ne interesting. A big crowd would be awesome

I used to listen to them but switched off about a month ago.
With all due respect tho, I think Many Coolen gives the MARINERS great support. She really does love the MARINERS & is a soccer mum herself.
I tuned in to her this morning & from what I can gather The MORONS are leaving Star FM this week (going to Adelaide).
I just checked their website & there`s no reference to them... maybe it`s true.

Good thread Adz. This has bothered me also.

I tend to surf between our three radio stations until one of them catches me. And when I have sat on star, waiting for a few mariners references to be dropped in, they seem very rare if at all... whereas listening to them carry on about league and using it for general references etc shits me to tears.

But when a major sponsor can't even get the game score right? That's just a slap in the face. It's bloody annoying at best.
But really it's a failure to the team they sponsor and to their community and listeners.

If they don't pull their finger out significantly I will boycott this station and tell my family to do also.
Like PromD I have an ipod also.

As to 2GO, I like 2GO, but if thats their "position" they can go screw themselves as I won't be listening any more either.

Great work PromD also.

Coast FM obviously call all the Mariners games. But during the Saturday morning sports show we dedicate 15 minutes to football on the Central Coast. We are doing a weekly interview with a Mariner plus talk to Michael Kmet to preview all the A-League and talk about the Mariners. Also we discuss local football.

Further to the phone call from 2GO this morning. My gut feeling from the conversation I had with the 2GO rep was that they (2GO) were mighty disappointed that CCM changed to Star.

We reminisced about the rapport and support that 2GO, especially Sara and Dwayne had with Lawrie and the Mariners, in those early days. From the enthusiasm in her voice as we talked, I believe that if the opportunity did arise in the future 2GO would look favourably at getting back onto the Mariners team again. As I said in my previous post . . . the sooner the better.

I generally listen to Star because I like the music and it seems that many of the comments are coming from people that don't listen to the station regularly because they are unaware what is going on. I drive alot so pretty much listen to it all the time, along with Scott Levi on ABC-Central Coast.

The ads and publicity are pretty high on the station and the last few weeks have been in overload to promote the Lawrie McKinna escorted trip to Melbourne. All you really hear constantly is the Mariners on Star which you pretty much did with 2GO as well.

At least in the past seasons you still heard lots of Mariners stuff on Star even though they didn't have the rights. The contractual stuff excuse given by the 2GO rep sounds bullshit as it was never a problem with Star. Sounds like an excuse because a regular Mariner supporter works in prmotions for 2GO and she is always putting stuff about the Mariners on the 2GO facebook page.

There is no doubt that Rod and the Flack are ignorant about football but they are nice blokes and genuinely try and give the Mariners a good go. They are always coming into our radio box at games before their gig and constantly asking us questions about this and that and what is going on with the team. This never happened with the previous match day hosts, though Steve Allen, who used to do the PA always visited. Nice guy as well.

Anyway, all academic now, as was mentioned, they have been given a promotion to a bigger market in Adelaide because they increased market share so much in Gosford.

The decision to go with Star was a logical one as the Mariners have saturated the 2GO market for four seasons and they went to the station that had the highest ratings within the demographic the were also targetting. If 2GO got uppity with this then that is their own problem as they would happily go with the business decision if the shoe is on the other foot.

As Bulldogmariner said above if there pure football news you are after then Coast-FM is your station at specific times. The people of this forum, being more football mad, will appreciate the coverage from this station but they are already the converted ones and will go to watch the Mariners regardless of what publicity is on what station. Therefore, what the people on this forum think is best for the Mariners may not necessarily be what the majority of the people of the Central Coast are after.

In saying all this I have to declare that I am on Coast-FM and have done radio with ABC Central Coast and Sea-FM both presently and in the past.

I am not employed by Star, Sea-FM or 2GO nor have any relations working for those stations.

I completely agree Mick! Last time I said that on here though I was slammed :(

Anyway, Rod and the Flack were so successful that they are living to a bigger market, so let's hope whoever takes their place at Star FM is at least as good as they were.

I for one am very sad that they are leaving as I listen to them every morning.

If anyone has any questions regarding 2GO/Sea FM, please feel free to PM me.

Yes, we were devastated to lose the sponsorship, and have been working very hard to get it back for the next season, especially as our station is full of football fans.

I too am curious as to who you spoke to at 2GO, as the person would of either been myself, or our marketing director. Contractually, we cannot say the Central Coast Mariners. However, we do mention the scores of the game (correctly...), and refer to them as "Central Coast", instead of the "Central Coast Mariners". We also report on the scores of the local premier league too, when it was on.

As someone who has a say in the sponsorship side of things, I would love to hear any input anyone has :) After all, the game is "fan made"!
