RD 3: City vs Mariners

City's likely lineup is Sorensen, Retre, Chapman, Kisnorbo, Clisby, Paartalu, Mooy, Koren, Zullo, Dekker, Fornaroli.

Ours - Reddy, Rose, Ascroft, McGing, Roux, Montgomery, Caceres, Fitzgerald, Austin, Ferreira, O’Donovan

To my mind apart from the class of Sorensen in goal they rely way too heavily in Mooy in the middle. I think this game will suit us much more than the Brisbane game. City do not have the pace that Brisbane do and I think Clisby and Retre will be in for a torrid time. Especially after backing up from the FFA Cup semi on Wednesday

I think this a game we will dominate and we will start to see the beginnings of what Tony is trying to do,

A win this week and a win for the mini-Mariners against WSW will set up our next home game for a decent crowd.

I feel much less sure Roy, but hope you're right. Mooy and Paartalu will be a big challenge again for our mids and will be hard for Roy once again against Kisnorbo and Chapman if Fitzy and Cac don't penetrate more. But agree weaker/slower than Roar and we are playing a very high tempo game, so here's hoping.

Absolutely. Play him alongside Monty to do a job on Mooy

Not a bad idea.

Or 442 with Heff up front and wingers tucking in a bit and back four playing a more disciplined shape.

Either way Fitzy to come on in the 2 half.

Also Rose to start at left back over Neill.

Not sure Liam Rose is a smash em style player but Monty on the other hand.
Totally agree about Mooy, without him they would be ordinary.

As a former Heart fan what we need to do to stop City is mark every player apart from Kisnorbo and allow him the ball when playing out from the back. If made to pass anything more than a simple ball he will fail 99% of the time. Track Mooy also neither Koren/Mauk nor Paartalu are creative enough to make things happen.

I can't wait for this (my first attended Mariners match as a fan). I reckon we're a fair shout for this one. City/Heart normally play poorly after a Derby as well.

I read both Zullo and Koren out injured for the cup game, not sure about Sunday.
I agree our mobility/pace should be an advantage.
Looks like they are out...and a few others. Not sure what they do with their players down there.

If I recall correctly haven't Heart/City only ever beaten us once?

I still love the memories of City away last season when HUTCHINSON WITH THE LAST KICK OF THE GAME equalised to end a horror run of losses.

Conversely that was the game that I knew City weren't for me. Even after such a late draw I felt nothing for them.

Why desert a team ?
Surely it wasn't one more 'poor-performance' that broke the camels back?
Hate Man City/  Man U ?
Change from Red to Sky B?
Or just the change of ownership to a Monster Club with petro $'s and no longer little brother under-dogs?

Whats the story?

Would be interested to understand as I've met Fury and Gold Coasters who switched over to following the Mariners, which is easy to understand as their club ceased to exist to support.

I changed because just like Fury/Gold Coast Heart no longer existed after the end of the 14/15 season. The one thing all Heart fans asked for was red and white stripes as the home kit (we were all fine with sky blue away). This was obviously not done meaning CFG care more about "brand synergy" than their fans. Heart was colonised nothing more nothing less. The final straw was photo shopping all red and white and Heart symbols out of photos plus putting sky blue everywhere they legally could without getting into trouble with the FFA. Have a look at everything City wear on Sunday and you'll see what I mean. The former Heart owners were incompetent sure but they at least cared about the people of Melbourne not Manchester City's global marketing reach. Melbourne City is a mini Manchester City and would be playing in a basically exact replica of a Manchester City kit if CFG hadn't decided Sydney owned sky blue.

TLDR;
CFG don't care about Melbourne just Manchester
