Moving right along. Lets forget ADU.

City look dangerous but IF we pick the right team that includes the players that have the desire to win we can give this a red hot go. City are missing Mooy and we missing Roux. Hopefully their midfield will be directionless.

My team pick would be.

Morton----Posco----Bosnar----Rose
---------Hutch----------Monty--------
Fitzy-----------Caceres--------Vernes
------------------Duke-----------------

Nash, Cernak, Tricky, Ando, Neill/Sim/Mane

If Simon was fit, I'd ditch Vernes and move Duke to the wing. Boom.

We can and need to win this. Particularly with WSW and AU to follow, the belief would be enormous

the thing I keep seeing is mane getting down the side line and crossing in .
with the ball going across the goal . I believe if fitzy is playing those are balls in the back of the net.

it feels like Mane holds on just a little too long for most of his crosses, though.

Also I'd start Trif daddy and bench Hutcho - give him a breather, he is a guy that tries to do everything but literally can't and is gonna burn himself out if he plays 5 games in 14 days.

Some interesting stats ahead of this weekends game.....

  • Central Coast Mariners have the best passing accuracy in the Hyundai A-League this season (83.4%).
  • The Mariners have a 6% shot conversion rate so far this term in the Hyundai A-League; the worst in the competition. The first point surprises me, and the 2nd one doesn't ! :) So...there is hope if we can start converting chances.

Neither stat surprises me, we have passed the ball quite well, even in the attacking half, which is where the clue to Mossy's assertion of a side in progression come from. The shooting stat must be listing all Duke's misses :innocent:

Take out the side and back passes in defence and we would be the worst...

Only because our passes go backwards or sideways under no pressure. We get the ball, look up, no one has moved into space to receive it and back it goes.

Wouldn't mind a 6% conversion if we were having a decent number of shots.

The 5 passes we constantly do in turning attack back into defence or from our corner back to our keeper would help the stats. Possession without using it is pointless. A few years ago the amount of possession was a good indicator on the result in today's game it isn't any where near as important to the result to have most possession.

It doesn't matter what the passing stats say whilst we continue to build them in areas the opposition are happy for us to have the ball in, especially at the minute when they are usually in the lead.

---------------Reddy-------------
Morton---- Poscoliero---- Bosnar---- Rose
--------Monty-------- Caceres
-----Vernes ---Trifiro----- Kim
-------------- Mane--------------

Subs Nash, Ando, Hutch, Fitz, Duke.

Okay well its all good and well to praise Duke every week for his effort but he consistently fails to take his chances, worth a shot giving Mane a chance to start up front imo.
Kim has to be given a chance to start on the left, he was a succesful player for big Asian clubs playing on the left, again its a gamble but its getting to the point where he is becoming the next Seip.
Vernes in the limited time i have seen him play seems to have alot of time on the ball and very sound technically, time to give him a start.

Duke and Fitz im sure most of you would prefer to start but they offer alot more as impact subs then Vernes/Kim if we are chasing the game. Hutch needs a rest aswell.

It's time to field the best players in the squad and stop giving more chances to the likes of Kim, Vernes or Mane in the starting 11. I've seen enough of Kim to realise that he's not better than any of our local midfield or attacking players. He was given plenty of opportunities and has failed. What I've seen of Vernes (nothing) is enough for me to realise that he's not good enough to compete with Fitzy, Caceres or Trifiro for a starting spot. Mane or Duke ? The boy from Liverpool is my choice. I really had enough of all the bs and excuses like "glimpses", "unfit", " try him in this or that position" and so on. The three have something in common : they all lack what an athlete needs to succeed in any sport : work rate, ethics and ticker.

My team v MC :

Pasco.................Ando.....................Bosna..........................Rose

..........................Monty....................Trifiro................................

Cernak..........................Caceres...............................Fitzy....

I would always start Duke regardless of his goal scoring. His energy and work rate is second to none in our team.
Goal will come. He just add so much more to the team and gets the Mariners never say die spirit.

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
I've solved the goal drought problem....its my fault....shaved the goatee off before pre season, result, f**k all goals....didnt shave a week before Palm Beach, result 5 goals....shaved ..bugger all....decide to grow the goat back, 2 days into the reforestation, 2 goals in the FFA cup game.....suffice to say I aitn touching the damn thing the rest of the season

Phew - thanks Recky - taking
one for the team.

actually the more I think about it I think we're about due to win.

seems to me we've suffered from 2 things. a lack of fighting spirit (we seem to lose most of the 1v1 battles and/or produce unforced errors) and missing the killer pass, run or shot in the final third.
this: "Central Coast Mariners have
the best passing accuracy in
the Hyundai A-League this
season (83.4%)." suggests we're capable of winning if we just rectify the above.

2nd half of last game produced the fight. if we manage to bring that this time I really do think we'll start winning

Smart.
Monty, Fitzy, Simon and Duke are our only players with any grunt.
Monty loses out to the coaches pet, when we should only be playing with 1 DM.
Fitzy hasn't done enough to nail down a starting spot 100% but if Mossy starts Sim on front of him again I will start to lose it.
Duke is our only centre forward and even Mossy's foggy mind has worked out that Mane is not a Centre forward.

For me...

Reddy
Rose Ando Bosnar Neill
Mane Monty. Caceras. Fitzy/Kim
Duke Triffiro
