R17: Brisbane Roar vs Mariners, in Brisvegas

Caceras has played in the 6 or 8 role and very well ... when he has played 10 he has not played that well... those suggesting we push him up to 10 and bring in Hutch ... HHHmmm not on what I have seen this year ... Mile to 10 with Fitys and Berrine out wide ...

Issue with Hutch for me is he far more prone to pass back giving the other team time to set and close down options ... Monty passes forward much more and so does Caceras ... Brisbane / Drive Bys / Nix and others are starting to copy are pushing forward on the back pass ... and we don't have Matty Ryan in goals any-more whose passing game and ball distribution from the back pass was world class and more than likely lead to a Socceroo call up ...

I'd like to point out that It's really nice knowing that the guys deciding who will play and what roll they will play has spent 60hrs a week for the past 3 years watching the team, training the players in various rolls, analysing video of the team and the other teams and has intricate knowledge of what everyone is capable of.

All the opinions of on forums such as my own are based on probably 10% of the information and knowledge of the coaching staff... SO what ever mossy and crew do will be the right thing I'm sure

Having said that, I love a good debate and opinions are an important part of being a fan!

If as many have suggested that one of the strikers like Mile have trained well in 10 this week, then there is a chance it may happen and be successful. I personally think that the guy that will play there, despite potentially being better at a different role, is the guy who is familiar with the roll, who played there often in pre season and moss publicly stated is the backup choice, caceres

while I like your reasoning and am also glad mossy picks the team.
caceres is playing well where he is. sterjo and hutch can play anywhere .that's experience.

on a personal note sterjo has expressed "he'd be happy to play there"

Caceres to #10 is going to happen. Its what everyone at the Mariners are saying. The times Ive seen him play at #10 he didn't play well but that was when he didn't have much game time. He only no becoming confident.

Here are a few quotes from the ones that count:

Charlsworth:
"Losing a player of Marcos's class is pure bad luck for us, but it's just one of those things," said Charlesworth.

"But I see Caceres as the natural replacement for him. He has a huge future in the game.

"He has so much natural ability and it will be important for him to step up now.

"When you look back at Tom Rogic and how well he did after Graham Arnold fast tracked him into the team. Before you knew it he was a star.

"Sometimes out of adversity these things can happen, a player can break through from nowhere.

"I think it's a chance for Caceres to blossom – he's a natural number 10. It's a great opportunity for him. He hasn't featured much, but now could be his time."

Graham Arnold:

"But Anthony is definitely an exciting prospect. I'd say he has as much technical ability as Tom. He's young but I think I've shown by now that I've got no qualms about throwing kids in if I think they're up to it."

"Caceres can play as a No.10 (like Rogic) or a holding midfielder, but as a holding player he's about building play and setting things up. He's that type of player," said Arnold.

"He has fantastic feet and great awareness. He knows where the goal is if he has to. He never loses the ball, goes past players comfortably. He's a different kind of player to Tommy, who's a bit more explosive. But honestly, sit back and watch this kid.

Phil Moss: ''I could leave Caceres as a number six and bring a number 10 in to add depth, or if Caceres does well at 10 we could look for a number six to cover,''

I think you will find that many who watch from Bay 16 only see the game in two dimensions and miss out on much of the depth aspect. It amazed me how much more of the game I could see when I moved from there.

Others watch it on tv and miss much that is happening off the ball.

I think it is the reason for much of what appears to be the lack of understanding of what is good football displayed by some on this forum.

Im not doubting your 'footballing knowledge' but this just sounds like a bit of elitist wank.

Hutch sucks in the air...correct?
Brisbane play predominantly on the ground...maybe hutch could do a job for this game as a CB...but generally speaking I don't rate him as a CB

But most likely hutch will be playing DM, with caceres pushed up into no 10...
Expect caceres to struggle in tonight's game if playing as no10

Hutch is good in the air but is not a defender.
