So...all Vernes has to do is...pull his socks up :innocent:

yes vernes had a poor game . but he's been better and close to best on ground before.
it was bloody hot . I worked before I got to the game and I reckon I drank 4 or 5 litres of water before I got there .

vernes effort for the little things has been there . I have high hopes , still for him .

Vernes needs a huge kick up the back side or a one way ticket back to Hungary, you'd never have know he was playing on the weekend, another stunning international signing !

Take a look at the weather where he is used to playing and then the weather in Australia. It will take time for him to adjust to playing in Aussie summer, particularly the humidity.... Typically around 1 degree this time of year in Hungary.

He has good technique on the ball, just underdone for fitness and apapting to our climate.

I like Vernes, he has talent and a good attitude. More than happy to give him the time he needs to hit his straps.

I feel for Storm. Posco was just so awesome in that game. Especially defending. Storm may offer a bit more going forward but Posco is a boss at tracking back and doesn't seem overawed by anything that is thrown at him. Ver versatile as well. Storm has a big fight on his hands.

Just on a side-note... Wasn't Peter Green the ref in that first, horror-game, in Newie, in our championship season... The one that basically cost us the double that season by robbing us of three points?...
You know the one, with the bad offside call against Rosie etc... Or am I just seeing a case of transference?
It was sort of shocking at times today, I though. Bosnar at one point, stuck with a City player with both arms locked around him and the ref just waving it off... Not to mention the blatant push in Reddy's side that went completely unpunished....

The Referee in the game you mention was Ben Williams. He subsequently wasn't appointed to an A-League game for a few weeks after that.

Well, I knew he was playing on the weekend. I saw plenty of him and the things he was doing in the first half, he was doing it right in front of me, the whole half. And I liked what he was doing.

Ah, thanks! :) I remembered that he was pulled for a while, Peter Green's performance at the start, especially, was justso inept at times, that it reminded me of that...

And I see that Citeh are off to the Boss's training camp in Abu Dhabi for a few weeks to cry in their lemon sodas over our beautiful win. :)

Totally agree, Posco was very good & has really put a challenge out for the RB position. However, Stormy is too good to leave out of the side. I`d like to see him in front of Posco, getting him further up the park.He likes to attack, can put in a good cross, has speed & tracks back well.

If Moss wants to play out from the back then Anderson to the bench, Posco to CB and Storm to RB - though 2 clean sheets may mean he won't be keen to change

Agreed. Posco seems to have more defensive nuance, but Storm is still great going forward and is absolutely wasted on the bench. But hard to argue with back-to-back clean sheets, even if one of them was against the completely incompetent attack of West Sydney.

Also I thought Ando was (can't believe I'm saying this) actually pretty good the last two games. Not nearly as many silly clearances. How he (or Posco for that matter) would do against a Victory of Glory… we'll see.

I wouldn't actually mind seeing Storm play in front of Posco on the right side of the midfield as that seems to be an area we have issue with having cycled a number of players through there and not really found a fit although we looked a lot better last game. Storm can play, has pace and delivers good balls when he gets in behind the defence.

I wouldn't blame the ref for an offside call - he's going to trust his AR

But Peter Green is always hilarious to watch refereeing. Personally, I thought we should have had a penalty for the blatant push in the back immediately before our second goal anyway.

I think Duke's really starting to come into his own the last few games, but perhaps he does feel like he's responsible for holding the team together anymore (which is kind of how he's seemed to play this season, though I don't blame him for constantly thinking 'I'll do it my f****** self then!')

Storm definitely likes to attack more but I don't agree that he is actually any good in attack. His decision making when on attack is poor. He hesitates way to much and misses the opportunity to cross then doesn't know what he is doing and gets caught still dribbling ino he defence. He doesn't know when to cross and when to take defence on. Needs a lot of work on attack.
Poscalario is more defensive but at the end of the day that's there primary job. Poscalario being defensive allows to play a back three in attack and push rose further up. It makes a prodominately left sided attack but it works as we look much better with rosé pushing forward.
IMO
Ando's defensive is pretty good when not getting caught out after errors. His ball playing is ordinary. His size gets him the CB over poscalario who was caught out when covering when Ando was left out.
I also don't think storm has been any good this year.
I'd stick with the current back 4. Although WSW missed a one on one and a tap in and reedy had to make 3 top class saves against city so the clean sheets are a bit deceiving but after all the sloppy goals we have let in we needed some luck at the back.

I think I should make sure that you know that Richard Vernes is only 22. Still learning his trade at the senior level, perhaps? Surely he didn't cost us a heap, and he is only on loan. Your criticisms are pretty harsh, and imo you should soften up a bit and cut him some slack.

Hehe, I think that's just because you don't remember the situation ;) I seem to recall having a good discussion with you and Grimario about it on that other board, if memory serves, Rosie was called offside after receiving the ball well in our half.
Otherwise, I know, offside is a bit of loose thing, which is why I get so frustrated when the boys stop play to appeal for it... It's never called so all they get out of it is giving the attacking player even more of an advantage.

But Peter Green is always hilarious to watch refereeing. Personally, I thought we should have had a penalty for the blatant push in the back immediately before our second goal anyway.

There were a couple in there that I thought were a bit shocking, not talking about the prodding and the stuff where the Mariners-goggles show a non-event as a blatant offence either. I can't remember who, but one of the City players almost alone with Reddy, running for the ball actually giving Reddy a two-handed outright shove in the side, knocking him over with no sanction to follow. That really surprised me, because there was no way to hide the action, it was obvious and the linesman was right there too.
Then, when Duke got away for that attempt when he tried to cross it rather than shoot with his left foot, just before it, taking the ball away from the City defender, the defender missed him in the first try, then lunged for Duke, feet first, studs up in what looked to me like a clear revenge action, as he was never going to get even close to the ball.
I actually thought that warranted a yellow, but nothing was done - I think because Duke got away and was looking good, so they didn't want to disrupt the play, but i actually thought they'd have come back to show a yellow, but nothing...

I think Duke's really starting to come into his own the last few games, but perhaps he does feel like he's responsible for holding the team together anymore (which is kind of how he's seemed to play this season, though I don't blame him for constantly thinking 'I'll do it my f****** self then!')

I mentioned it around the Brisbane game, that it felt like there was a clear difference between Matty and Duke... They both work hard, but Matty just NEVER gives up, Dukie used to play like that too. I swear Dukie read that, because the last two games, he's looked more and more like his old self... I think it's been good for him to have Matty to play off for a bit actually.

At the end of the day, I had my doubts about the lineup against MC, and I think I'd still sort of like to see what we'd look like with Storm-boy back and Posco in place of Ando, but if Cernak can keep up the hard work that he showed in this game, I think it'd be interesting to see if repeating the line-up would help the confidence :)
