Dont know if 'naturally' is the best term to use.

He's played firstly at RB covering Storm on International duties &/or when SR's form dropped.

Then we saw him moved into right-handside CB position covering Anderson's poor form, sometimes for Bosnar as well but mostly on the rhs with Bos or Rosey playing the lhs CB.

Recently Walmsley has been trialling Posco at DM (as a single 4-1-2-3 or 4-1-3-2)

After watching his good performances last season at both CB & RB, I saw enough attributes in speed, gritty tenacious tackling, skills on ball going forward, passing range/accuracy from the middle third & the corners to 'hit' our attackers THAT when all tallied up - personally think he's 'very well suited' to being a Defensive Midfielder.

If were to play with a more attacking mindset, then a 4-1-3-2 is the way to go.... 1 DM with 5 in front of him won't give you that 'GAP' when pressing.

(2) R'OD & Heff2.0 both up front with Heff as the target/hold up play Viduka style and Roy being much quicker just slightly in behind or sideway offset.

Fabio worked really well with Roy, feeding him balls in the 11v11 game on Sat. Roy looked twice as fast from the Wellington FFA Cup game AND IT WAS STINKING HOT as well !!!

Heff on the otherhand was in Hutcho's opposing 11 and didnt get much service imo.

Is a shame Liam Rose is away. Not sure who would play as DM if Monty is missing? A few options but no one with the same skillset and experience. Lets hope Monty is fit, i think he will be. It wouldn't be a very popular decision but Matt Sim might be a safer bet as LM instead of Mitch? Big blow if we were missing those 2 but the upside is it gives someone a chance.

Sim is not a safe bet at LM. Austin will start but Sim could start at LB without Rosey and if Neill is not fit?

Does that mean we've also dropped the 4-4-2 in defence (deep 8 man block with 2-man soft press up high)?

I can't see how the transitions would work unless you had Caceres dropping in next to the DM and the LAM and RAM drop in where the wingers would have been.

We're also basically playing without wingers, so in attack the LB and RB are going to have to own the flanks. To make that work there's going to be a focus on getting numbers around the opposing 2/7 and 5/11 pairs to create an overload.

In doing that, we're opening ourselves up to getting hit on the break. We'll have the DM and 2 CBs working as a back three to shut down breaks and buy time to get shape back. Against quick teams, that's going to be problematic, though if we're playing young CBs, as long as they keep their composure it's doable.

Lots of tactical questions, will be interesting to see how they're resolved.

Two DMs is about securing the play and ensuring your attacking players are free to be aggressive going forward, not thinking they've got to save their legs to do the water carrying down the back.

Having 2 DMs,also allows L & RB's (those with motors) to make runs to corner flags & whip balls into the box.....repeatedly.

Or similarly make runs to the far post and score headers from whipped balls into the box a'la LB Dean Heffernan HAL 1.0 .....something not seen much in the modern game these days

The only game I have seen so far is the FFA Cup v Wellington in which we did seem to play the system TW stated. Played a very high press which left the midfield way open and were exposed numerous times, I thought then that a team like MV would carve us up playing like that. It has been 2 months since then so hopefully the shape and tactics are now bedded in.

As Erin pointed out in FTS: He has stated his objective to play entertaining football but more than simply putting out that statement, he talks about the specifics which underlie and backup that philosophy. It’s a highlight for me to see and understand the mechanics of how his plans workout. I understand more of his specifics will emerge over the course of this season but one I have heard recently mentioned by Tony is – “Five seconds of fury”. I am told this is an intention to bring our play to a shot on goal within 5 seconds of winning it the ball from the opposition. Strategies aimed at entertainment can definitely be high risk, but the rewards for both entertaining and producing results are doubly handsome

Depth is a real worry if in the 1st game of the season Mat Sim is being mentioned for the starting 11.

Of all the presseason games I have seen and yes I even went to orange, Walmsley is set on playing 1 DM with Careers and Fitz as the two AMs. I think you find that Monty will be out again this week. Didn't play in orange, Sunshine coast or in the 11v11 train game on the weekend. For this game DM will be Posco or Ashcroft. Rose is still a slight chance to make the game as he suited up for training on Saturday but only did a small part of the warm up. Didn't play. Not sure who will be the two CB but I'm leaning towards Bosnar and Mcging (or Ascroft).

Depth is a real worry. We only have 21 signed on and with Liam Rose away (is he still?), and possibly 2 injured we may only have 18 players to choose from this weekend. I can see we will have to dip into the youth team this season. Will be a challenge for TW but there are some good kids coming through.

McGing played NSWPL2 for us and he will be quality once he gets a few games under his belt.

I think Berry is away with the young Socceroos isnt he?

#ThatBoyTrent from CCF could be anything, scores for fun at any level and if we dont/cant sign him up, that will be a huge opportunity missed.

As mentioned above. If Sim is the answer, we have been asking the wrong questions. Can play LB/WB in a pinch but.....

Im not 100% sold on Posco but he might be ok as emergency DM when Monty is out. I quite like your 4132 set up but again don't fancy Fitzy in the key CAM role. Love the Paddy and the Pom up front together.

Fitzy played CAM in Walmsleys youth teams. He is far better playing behind the strikers than as one himself.

Mind you in that side he was behind Bernie and Dukey so pretty easy to look good lol
