Hi all,
Today on the Tas United FC forum one of our members wrote: "I just rang up FFT and asked about the pre-season game down here this year, and I got some good news! Melbourne Victory is playing Central Coast Mariners on the 25th of July."  Need to get confirmation on this (can any of you confirm via CCMFC?) but sounds good!  I expect the game will be at York Park in Launceston at about 1pm, that date is a Sunday.  Keen to welcome any travelling Marinators!

Mariners and Victory to clash in Tasmania

The Central Coast Mariners have confirmed another date in their Pre-Season diary, with a trip to Launceston added to an ever-expanding schedule, where they will meet Hyundai A-League 2009/10 Grand Finalist Melbourne Victory on Sunday, 25 July.

It will be the fifth time the Victory has used Aurora Stadium for a Pre-Season fixture, however, for the first time, the Mariners will provide the opposition, after Adelaide United had filled that role for the four previous visits.

For Mariners Assistant Coach Tony Walmsley, it will be a return to where it all began, with the Manchester born mentor starting out his Australian coaching career in the Tasmanian Premier League, before taking on a job with the states Under age teams.

I have many wonderful memories from my time in Tasmania, its a great part of the world and they are very passionate football fans.

I actually went to the Victorys trial with Adelaide last season and there were about 6,000 people making plenty of noise, so Im sure it will be a great atmosphere.

My dad still lives down there as well, so its really exciting for me personally, as Im sure it is for the team to be able to play a Pre-Season match in Launceston, said Walmsley.

Melbourne Victory play the Central Coast Mariners on Sunday, 25 July 2010 at Aurora Stadium, Launceston. Kick-off is at 1:00pm AEST, and ticket details will be advised in due course.

That is really cool. I know a few of the players in that squad, some good guys there. Will be great exposure for them!

If that doesn't prove the mariners are the best community club around.
Not even there own home pre-season game in a different state and they stick around for another 3 days and travel 3 hours to play a state team.

Love you mariners.

Wow, I didn't realise Walmsley coached Launceston City. I played against them many, many times in the Northern Premier League. I might just travel down to Tassie for both games. It would be pretty freaking sweet!

Perez Free kick on the edge of the box right on half time and Kwas heads home but the Assistant flags offside. Seemed a harsh call.
