Here is the CCM Media Release issued on Thursday, we were interviewed Thursday night by Kathy at Star FM and on the 6AM news - they were very curious about the T-Shirts but I think we need a bigger news story - I note the foxsports reporter who they crossed to at FFA during the FOXSPORTS NEWS AND VIEWS  (on the night of the hearing) cynically commented that there was apparently a petition with over 1000 signatures but no presence at the hearing - maybe we need a busload or two of supporters and a picketline at the next hearing at FFA headquarters to get the message across - if the media are worded up I am sure we would get some TV with TEN's sports tonight and the like, it's pretty well unprecedented what we are doing and it has national interest as it's an olympics story.

Mariners submit Vukovic appeal

The Central Coast Mariners have today submitted an appeal to Football Federation Australia in relation to the suspension handed out to goalkeeper Danny Vukovic following the Hyundai A-League 2008 Grand Final.

Having consulted extensively with the club QC and other legal counsel, the PFA, Vukovic and Vukovics management, the Mariners have elected to submit an appeal in an attempt to challenge Vukovics 12 month ban.

"The welfare of the player in this instance is absolutely paramount and following discussions between Danny, his management and our legal team, we have decided it is in the best interests of Danny, the club and hopefully at the end of the day the game that we proceed with this appeal," said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.

"The past fortnight has been one of immense emotional strain on Danny and we are grateful to the media for their respect and understanding of this situation and for their continued co-operation in regards to maintaining Dannys privacy."

I think we should get as many people as possible to head down for the appeal. Even if we don't do anything special, we should have some kind of presence there.

We are trying to find out the date and it will be at FFA headquarters College Street in Sydney. It would naturally be better to hold it at Central Coast Leagues and get Foxsports to do a live cross. This would maximise support and who knows if it goes well Danny may even come back to celebrate! Needs some thought but my experience and mail from the coast is people won't travel down on a weeknight understandably. WATCH THIS SPACE for further details.

LATEST MEDIA RELEASE FROM SAVEDANNY.COM.AU

Fans petition hopes to shield Olyroos Vukovic

The savedanny.com.au petition continues to receive signatures at the rate of over one hundred per day in response to the FFAs firm stance on the budding Olympians future following his A-League grand final misdemeanour.

The FFA showed no mercy at his initial appeal hearing and after a marathon seven-hour show of evidence reduced his good behaviour period by just three months, while his initial ban of nine months from competition, remains in force.

Vukovic was recently named Goalkeeper of the Season by leading Football magazine Four Four Two.  Quality performances for the Olyroos from Vukovic played a major role in Australias qualification for the Beijing Olympics. In the A-League, clean sheets in Vukovics first four games this season helped the Mariners open up a commanding lead in the early rounds, setting them on the path to the Premiers Plate.

The star goalkeepers chances of representing Australia at Beijing remain in the balance pending his next and final appeal to the FFA. Mariners management after consultation with their QC and wider legal counsel, the Professional Footballers Association, Vukovic and his agent have elected to submit an appeal in an attempt to reduce the 12 month ban.

Should the FFA refer the matter to international body FIFA, the promising athlete will be denied his place in the Olyroos squad. A dream he has harnessed with the next generation of Socceroos stars, on the long Silk Road to Beijing.

Avid Vukovic fan, football enthusiast and founder of savedanny.com.au Tim Pocock commented;

This shouldnt be perceived as sour grapes from the central coast Its about one of our countries greatest athletes being denied his spot in Beijing after a comedy of errors. Its a matter of national interest for football fans.

The savedanny.com.au petition website was created within hours of the FFA releasing details of the ban and has been signed by over 1500 supporters expressing dismay at the severity of the ban.

Its clear from the video footage that there were refereeing errors involved. Its time for the FFA to acknowledge the shortcomings of the game they have delivered to the paying public and not use Danny as a scapegoat. While we wait for video technology in our sport, lets not burn promising individuals for slight indiscretions just so the FFA can save face.

A formally bound petition document of over 1000 signatures was presented to FFA headquarters on the day of the hearing. The passionate support group expect to have over 2000 signatures and a picket line style representation at the forthcoming tribunal hearing to be held within the next fortnight.

442 (latest edition) contains number of references to both the refereeing balls ups of Shield/Breeze together with comments about c**tboy hitting the AR in the nuts.

Surely the FFA are beginning to realise that they have a potential PR issue loomimg and will be looking to do a deal for all concerned.

Simple out would be maintain the ban but restrict it to HAL games only. To be fair, Danny deserves to cop a hefty punishment for what he did but what other code would hurt their national team in an Olympics year just to make a point??

Cant hold it to hal games. Fifa will make it global after the ffa advise them of their decision.

The should make it 12 months suspended sentance.

Then change the rule next season so the precedent disappears

If you want to keep the pressure up, send a fax to the FFA. Keep it legit or it will only hurt Dannys case. I just googled "FFA and fax" and it just appeared!

If anyone finds our when the appeal is heard, post it cause we'd be there

EXCLUSIVE: Danny Vukovics Beijing battle will resume in the first week of April with the Central Coast Mariners refusing to rule out a lengthy fight for justice.
After the first attempt at overturning the goalkeepers 15 month ban effectively failed, the Gosford club have taken stock and decided that there is every reason to continue the appeals process.

A second hearing is the final avenue for Vukovic under the FFA appeals process but there remains the possibility of a showdown in the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The Mariners believe valid grounds for appeal should not be dismissed after one or perhaps two hearings. They are determined to pursue all options to achieve the outcome they feel is just.

And to that end, the club has now had a former legal advisor to the Fraser government examine the case in their drive to restore Vukovics Olympic dream.

Executive chairman Lyall Gorman told au.fourfourtwo.com: Lets make this absolutely clear, we are not in the business of pursuing or submitting frivolous appeals. We dont want this process to become a comic affair that reflects badly on our club or the league.

What we believe we have here are valid grounds for appeal and we feel very strongly about pursuing this.

Im not ruling anything out at this point. We will go into this next appeal in the first week of April having sought yet another (legal) opinion and as I said, we think we have valid grounds for continuing this (fight).

As it stands Vukovic is set to miss the Beijing Olympics with his grand final altercation with referee Mark Shield also ruling him out of A-League action until the end of November.

The Olyroos youngster had been first choice in Graham Arnolds young squad but missed out on the recent 1-1 draw with Mexico in San Francisco after being hit with the initial ban.

Forgive me if this sounds stupid, but shouldnt you actually get there 100% approval before you go printing company logos on shirts?

Yep most definitely we will get approval before we go to print - no support no logo(as you can appreciate we need star support more than they need us)....the thinking around starfm is they have been really supportive  and followed the story of savedanny.com.au thru news bulletin stories.

If we can get support on the breakfast show with Vic and Lisa we should hit the 2000 signatures goal before the hearing.
