Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Strange Hollands hand ball in the GF was worst .. but all the attention went to Danny ...
Because he was silly enough to touch the ref. Everything else was forgotten after that.

^^Exactly. People love controversy.

No one is talking about the return of Brosque + Bridge this week and hyping them for the GF, they're too busy loving controversy. Ditto Holland getting away with it big time outside of CCM circles, Vukovic did him a favour.

Doesn't matter a bugger if it was deliberate or not. it was handball, end of. The way he celebrated was a disgrace. I don't care how old or young he is, how big a game it is etc etc, he knew exactly what was going on and it was cheating, pure and simple.

Don't blame the ref and say " if the refs were any good, it wouldn't have been given" blah blah blah Is it OK to receive cash for goods and services and not pay GST/tax because the ATO missed it? Not in my book. We all have to pay tax and we all have to live by the laws of society. Hopefully some still consider morals to be important as well.

He cheated, pure and simple. He had the opportunity to propel himself into exalted sporting status for actually doing an homourable thing in sport and life. Have we, as a society become so blinkered that all that matters is the end and not the means?

When it comes to sport, we have been blinkered for a very long time. The "Hand Of God" didn't just happen yesterday, and I haven't seen too many non-England people slamming him for the cheat that he is.
Think also of the criticism Gilly got when he chose to walk when he knew he was out.
Very sad.

It matters a lot whether it was deliberate. Bizarre as it may seem, if it was genuinely an accident, then the correct decision is play on and a goal correctly awarded. At least I'm pretty sure that's the case.

Anyway, I was just raising it because I haven't heard anyone in the media talking about the rules. They're just wallowing in their usual hysteria. Sells papers I guess...to some.

I didn't realise it had to be deliberate either. This is from the fifa laws:

Handling the ball
Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with
the ball with his hand or arm. The referee must take the following into
consideration:
the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand)
the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball)
the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an
infringement
touching the ball with an object held in the hand (clothing, shinguard etc.)
counts as an infringement
hitting the ball with a thrown object (boot, shinguard etc.) counts as an
infringement

Disciplinary sanctions
There are circumstances when a caution for unsporting behaviour is required
when a player deliberately handles the ball, e.g. when a player:
deliberately and blatantly handles the ball to prevent an opponent gaining
possession
attempts to score a goal by deliberately handling the ball

A player is sent off, however, if he prevents a goal or an obvious goal-scoring
opportunity by deliberately handling the ball. This punishment arises not from
the act of the player deliberately handling the ball but from the unacceptable
and unfair intervention that prevented a goal being scored.

Restart of play
Direct free kick from the position where the offence occurred (see Law 13
Position of Free Kick) or penalty kick

Outside his own penalty area, the goalkeeper has the same restrictions on
handling the ball as does any other player. Inside his own penalty area, the
goalkeeper cannot be guilty of a handling offence incurring a direct free kick
or any misconduct related to handling the ball. He can, however, be guilty of
several handling offences that incur an indirect free kick.

(page 111)

That states clearly it has to be a "deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with his hand or arm". That would be pretty hard to prove in a lot of cases IMO.

Handball aside, the young lad has done well and would love to see him in the yellow&blue next year. In scoring a goal (deliberate or not) in a semi final to put his team through possibly to the grand final, ofcourse you'd celebrate. He is just a youngster but he does have a fair bit of talent and I think he'd prove to be a better striker than either Simon or Mrdja. Not only can he score, as the other two can, he has a bit of pace aswell.

Disagree with Jerome in the fact that I think he'd be a great addition to our squad. But Clarky, take your negative attitude elsewhere...how come you didnt apply for the coaches position? Graham who?
Also LOL at Mick...jealousy is a curse
