Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Overseas Ref for A-League GF

For those who suggest spending a lot of money on marquee referees - I would think that spending that money on making our refs into full time referees would result in a greater overall improvement.

Not only will this allow for far more training and education time, but it would also allow for preseason training camps, as well as more time spent reviewing performances.  And, most importantly, it means they won't be taking the field carrying stress and fatigue from their day job (and for any elite athlete - and let's be honest, refereeing needs just as much, if not more, focus as playing - your mental condition is extremely important).

A Referee or 2-3max brought in from overseas, WOULD be a full-time ref, thats the whole idea of the the concept. They SHOULD already be a 'full-time' referee before even being considered for our job/s.

They wouldn't be sitting around in the off-season doing jack-shit, they'd be training running clinics for AR's, NYL's, W-League, State League Ref's and assisting in the development programs for junior referees. yes we have systems in place now, BUT they're NOT producing what we NEED NOW! There's nobody in Australia I've seen worthy of being offered $100k plus contract from the FFA to Ref fulltime.

So something has to change......Be like the Japanese in their ideology of taking all the great things from all around the world and then making it their own. So who has better standards of refereeing than us?

Take your pick of Leagues from all over the world  :p- but better to choose leagues that are similar to the A-League 'style' of play and standard. That's why I suggested The Chamionship in England, as English football is well known for it's physicality, like our own here in Australia

By spending some dollars on 2-3 high quality Refs NOW, will only help to create a better infrastructure for future professional full-time referees in the FUTURE

Yeah fair enough - some people are talking about just getting an overseas ref for the GF, but getting one in full time is something different.

As for the issue of whether or not anybody in Australia is worthy of a full time contract, it's a difficult question - after all, any of our referees would almost certainly perform a lot better if they were full time.  But how much better compared to an overseas ref though?

This is something we should've been asking a long time ago though - the GF was far from the most destructive refereeing performance we've seen (bear in mind I've only seen highilghts) - after all, Cristiano elbow is exactly what a lot of referees are being taught IS a red card, at all levels - and as for Allsopp's, well, I think 100% of the blame can go to the AR for that one.

Still, Breeze does have a history of getting big decisions wrong - whether HE got the big ones wrong in the GF is another matter, but IMO he certainly isn't the best ref in Australia.  None of the old A-panel are, IMO - including Shield.  Fortunately Shield's absence seems to have removed some of the favouritism thus allowing some of the lesser refs to have a look in, even allowing a NYL ref to officiate on a HAL fixture (referee development seems to be working there).

Nobody can argue against more work being needed though - but if the FFA isn't willing to spend money on making our top refs full time, I can't see them importing an overseas ref - after all, they'd have to spend a LOT more money on an overseas ref, I'd think.
